Pinga, my English Pointer, has epilepsy.
She hadn’t had a fit for a few years. Then… last night she had one again.
What
is so strange is that she always starts to show signs of distress hours
before her fit. She becomes very clingy, very low in energy.
It is not a nice thing to witness her having a seizure. It looks very scary. But it is apparently not as bad as it seems.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Dear Friends,

I wanted to drop you a quick note about ISAR's International Homeless Animals' Day^TM 2008, which will be observed this year on Saturday, August 16^th.

As you may already know, in 1992, ISAR introduced National Homeless Animals' Day as an innovative educational vehicle with a purpose of informing society of an American tragedy that overwhelms animal shelters each year - pet overpopulation. Since the conception of National Homeless Animals' Day, ISAR has reserved the third Saturday of August, commemorating the Day annually, to promote new campaigns, programs, and ideas on the solution to the pet overpopulation epidemic: spay/neuter.

In 2007, for the 16^th consecutive year, ISAR is pleased to have assisted animal rights/welfare organizations in 35 states and 11 foreign countries in making their National Homeless Animals' Day events a success.

Now, because of the ever-growing, successful international participation in National Homeless Animals' Day by foreign animal protection organizations, ISAR will in the future formally acknowledge this global participation by officially entitling our crusade "International Homeless Animals' Day."

We are asking all animal organizations and interested individuals to assist ISAR in enlightening others about the pet overpopulation epidemic and increase spay/neuter awareness by joining us in commemorating our 17^th annual observance on August 16, 2008.

Individuals or organizations wishing to take part in this year's International Homeless Animals' Day on August 16, 2008, can receive a free vigil packet by submitting a request to ISAR via mail, phone, fax, or email. Our vigil packets include guidelines for organizing a successful vigil with tips on site selection, reaching target audiences, suggestions for speakers and vigil events, poems, songs, sample press releases, and proclamations are but a few of the items included in our packet. To save our printing costs, vigil packets are only sent upon request.

We have appreciated everyone's participation in the past year's events and look forward to working with those interested in participating in International Homeless Animals' Day 2008. Please email me (colleen@isaronline.org) either way if you plan on having an observance for International Homeless Animals' Day or if you plan to forgo it for this year.

If you do plan on hosting an International Homeless Animals' Day Candlelight Vigil/Observance, we will add you to the list to receive a vigil/event planning kit as soon as they are ready. Please send us your name, organization name, and mailing address so we know where to ship the vigil packet to.

Hi, I'm obviously new. I'm Sunshine. I love all creatures of the earth. I'm a vegetarian soon to be vegan. I live with three wonderful dogs, one whose super fluffy! I like Japan, speak some Japanese(not as much as I should since I lived there 6 months!). Um just looking for some new friends with some similar interests. I like Gaia it provides a lot of inspiration, spiritual refueling and a place to take a breather and meet some great people. Well I think I've rambled enough ^_^ Oh one last thing I love music!

Animal tested products

hi all i just wanted to put a note on hear about products that are tested on animals. Im sure if not all but most people know of the companies that test on animals or put money into animal testing but after looking into it, ive found out that alot of these companies are very devious as they claim there product isnt tested on animals yet if you look deeper into the company some put money into projects else where which do animal testing. So im just putting a plee on hear to ask everyone to look behind the lines on all companies so we dont buy from the unethical ones. And also be aware of the products that say this product is not tested on animals, as that actual product may not of been tested but some of the ingrediants in it may of been, so your best bet is to also make sure that it says the product and the ingrediants has not been tested on animals.

YAY Love this post!

Let me add one thing that really is workign for us ... education. I started introducing a bit more human-wildlife interaction stuff in my classroom programs for kids and it is really making a difference. Teachers are even specifically requesting that now and it is creating a new type of peer pressure - pressure to protect!

The federal Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act, H.R. 891, would require that all apparel containing any quantity of fur is accurately labeled-regardless of the fur's monetary value-and also ban completely the sale and import of fur from raccoon dogs, members of the dog family native to China killed in large numbers for their fur.

Under current law, products containing quantities of fur valued under $150 can be sold in American stores without accurate labels. Consumers with ethical objections or allergies to fur may think a lack of a label means that they're buying "faux" fur-but sadly, this is not always true.

What You Can Do
Please visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center today, where you can email a letter to your representative urging him or her support and cosponsor the Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act. You'll also find additional information about how this Act will change current labeling laws for the better.

I'm going to use this posting on my blog too -
Did you all know that FINALLY the law passed in 2005 banning the slaughter of horses has finally been rescued from the hideous back-stabbers in Congress by the others, in a bi-partisan action and votes in the House and Senate, and applied?
So the last slaughterhouse for horses in America was closed down on last Thursday!
We who worked ceaselessly for this for years need to party down this weekend by taking carrots to all the horses we know or see along country roads!!!
And, by lobbying hard to keep this in place and to help the horses by stopping the carriages as on Jen's posting above!
Hurray for Horses!
