Do you have a pet? Did you have pets as a kid?

Pictures, please if you have any. Just upload from your hard drive using the 'attach image' tool, you can upload more than one :D

Yes.

Now I have Boris - a 5 year-old Springer Spaniel boy.

I had a lot of pets as a kid - cats and dogs. And I was best friends with a cow.

As a child, we had dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and budgies.
When I was with hubby, we had dogs and cats, our kids had mice, gerbils, rabbits, tarantulas, snakes and a scorpion.

Since leaving hubby, daughter and I rented and wasn't allowed pets, so we got rats :)
Our first ones have all died, we now have four more.
They are about 4months old now.
Gandalph, Casanova, Hiro and Ando.

However we moved recently and we shall soon have a cat called Missy and will be looking out for a dog too :)

The pic is of daughter holding all four rats.

wow! pets galore!

At the moment, we just have the one cat Chelsea. Our other cat died in the winter, as did a goldfish my youngest had had for years (last year) and a turtle my oldest had (that one didn't last long at all, many moons ago).

Don't have a photo handy of Chelsea but here's one of my favourite lolcats pictures :)

Love,

Nicole

Hi Kala :)

Yes, the Cow.

When I was 5 my parents moved from Denmark to Sweden. To the wild and forested country-side. The farmer we rented the house from had his cows grassing just outside our house.

The days start very early in summer in Sweden (by 4AM th sun was high in the sky in June)

One of the cows had a calf the second summer, and every morning I would wake up at 4-5 AM each morning and take my blue enameled jug/mug and go out and have myself a cup of warm milk directly from this cow - who stood absolutely still together with her calf - and then we all lay down in the grass and had some TLC, just being together. Every now and then she would lick us - the little boy and the calf curling up close to her.

I don't know why she was so accepting of me, but I am pretty sure I am the only boy in Sweden who has been mothered by a Cow.

Huggles,
Dov and BearBoy

We've got three dogs (Willa, Lexi and Claire) and two cats (Patrick and Dougan).  I'll start with the largest one first.  Willa just had her 2nd birthday.  She is an Irish Wolfhound/Briard mix.

I'm nuts about Irish Wolfhounds too!  Willa got a bath last night; her nails trimmed this morning; and I gave her a haircut this afternoon.  In the past I have scissor-cut her hair.  Today I purchased the Oster A5 Turbo clippers and gave her a haircut. It was a BREEZE!  And she looks like she was groomed by a professional.

Nicole -

Claire rules the roost with an IRON PAW.  Even though she only weighs 20 pounds, in her heart of hearts she is absolutely certain that she is the size of a Great Dane.  Her two sisters (Willa and Lexi) steer a wide berth for Claire (AKA “Big Chief Squatty Body” or “Sarge”).

Claire is the one that brings furry 'trophies' to our back door and stands there ever so proudly.  She is quick; like greased lightening.  She never toys with her victims.  A quick snap of the neck and it's over.  they never even saw her coming.

When we go canoeing she is more OUT of the boat than in the boat.  Her little 6-inch legs paddle to beat the band!  During one of these forays Claire met up with a muskrat.  They got into a tussle.  In the flash of an eye they both went under and stayed under.  There were lots of bubbles.  Claire finally surfaced.  We never saw the muskrat surface.

She's always on the move.  Even when Claire sleeps her little feet “run” in her dream-state.

Hi, folks - I don't have a picture yet, because he moved in with me fairly recently.  I have a feline housemate named DeGog - a white cat with hazel green eyes, about 3 yrs old.  He was named in his previous household by a goofy 3 yr old who was tired of speaking in complete sentences so she started making up words [g].

One of his favorite activities is “kitty tv” - watching out the fortunately strong screened open window at the various bird and wildlife activity behind the house.  He also likes sleeping between my feet while I'm on the computer and racing up and down the hallway and tearing around the house at about 2:30 in the morning - good incentive to go to bed earlier since he usually likes to toast my feet when I'm asleep and he'll do that more peacefully if I turn in before the crazy hour.

Hi everyone! My name is Kala and I'm fairly new to Gaia and brand new to this group.
I love animals and have always had them. My husband and I have one 14 1/2 year old Maltese named Mindy and three cats, all boys: Ali, Murali Rao, and Figaro (Figgi). The boys are aged 14, 10 and 9 years.  My husband, Ken, writes a column about cats for examiner.com and we used to sit on the board of directors of a cat rescue. He is volunteering at a local shelter today for their adoption day / vaccination clinic.  We don't have any human children so we have furry ones and they are the light of our lives.

Hi, everyone!

The lilac-cream tortie point girl is Jasmine; she was just fourteen when we lost her a few weeks ago. We are still heartbroken. She was the smartest, funniest girl in the world. We got her from a rescue six and a half years ago from a rescue when her owners surrendered. She had interstitial cystitis that caused her to urinate inappropriately. She came with a host of other health problems that plagued her throughout her life. She finally succumbed and is greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

The seal-point Himalayan boy is Figaro (Figgi) who was born under our bed nine years ago, just three days after we rescued his parents from a disreputable breeder.

The black Persian boy is Murali Rao, who is ten years old.

The flame-point Himalayan boy is Ali, who will be fourteen years old next month.

The little Maltese is Mindy, who is fourteen and a half years old. She's a retired therapy dog.

Namaste,
Kala

One of the gentlemen in the Global Coherence Initiative group is currently on a speaking tour and sent a post the other day from Sweden.  He said that it get light at around 4am and stays light until around 10pm.  That sounds amazing!  Is that true year round, or only during specific times of the year?  He said he's finding it difficult to sleep (additionally due to crossing time zones with travel and jet lag) because it seems like day time all the time.

Hi, Kayla - in the picture you shared of your fur family - Jasmine appears to me as though she's sitting on an angelic cloud :-).  I wonder with whatever comes next, if there are harps that kitties can play?

Other folk have shared about the transition/death of beloved pets in the Passing Group (which is for dealing with grief) - particularly in the Sharing thread.  Your husband's vision sounds beautiful and reassuring.

I've made three attempts at posting these pics….keep getting a size error.   I will try to add them later, one at a time maybe…but I haven't time to fool with this much longer.

My youth had few (none that I remember) pets in it; but now I rescue Cavies from the local shelter.  I have four currently:
Maura, the agouti with white stripe; Shamrock, the red head; Marshmallow, the crested white one, and Snuggles, our most adventurous and outgoing guinea pig ever.  While most of them are shy, she rushes over to greet us, or even strangers, with an enthusiasm that is simply refreshing.

This is Maura  (I can't seem to add anymore to this one)…
