Which is your favorite animal? Why? Do you know anything about it that you'd like to teach the rest of us?

Pictures please - just use the attach image tool.

Huggles,
Dov

My favourite animal is a dolphin. Dolphins are bright and love to play. They are the embodiment of joy!

With laughter,

Nicole

I love cows, bears, dogs, dinosaurs, lizards, cats, in fact I actually love all animals!

But I have two very specific favorites : Platypus and Komodo Dragons.

Platypus because it's so weird. An egg laying mammal…
Komodo Dragons because they are so BIG and dangerous :D

Then of course there is my 'totem' - the Polar Bear. I love the fact that EVERYTHING is nothing but lunch to a polar bear! A 3000lb eating machine that plays like humans, hang out like humans and has no fear of anything. Awesome!

You have the most interesting animal friends Dov! :)

I can still remember writing about the platypus when I was in first grade. It must have made quite an impression on me, eh?

And I'm very fond of the armoured bear in His Dark Materials,  Iorek Byrnison (they also refer to him as a panserbjørn).

Not neglecting the komodo dragons, I seem to remember doing a school project on them…

LOL…My favorite show on TV is Animal Planet… I can watch it for hours…

Yes, dolphins are nice. I always loved the Marine Show at various zoos I went to as a child, always thought they were so clever!

How come you did project on the Komodo Dragon and the Platypus - those are not usual animals for a first grader to write about…?

And, YES! IOREK BYRNISON ROCKS! I just had to have the DVD, I don't care to much for the books (at least not the two last in the trilogy), but I loved Iorek Byrnison - he is SO cool!

Loving this thread!

My favorite animal of all time is the owl

When I first felt the 'spritual' urge; the notion that there is 'something greater' than my current walk of life, I embarked first on a particulary pagan path.  I am Scottish and the natural back-woods down-to-earth approach appealed to me (and still very much shines through in my life).

The owl then seemed a natural ally.  I quickly became fascinated with the creature; their attributes and behaviour - what they meant in light of various folk historys.

(I have one tattooed on my right arm).

I am particulary fond of Barn Owls.  They are to me like ghosts.  On the rare chance that I might see one, silently moving in what little light there is in the dusk air, shivers run the length of my spine.

Below is a picture of two such Barn Owls - - who mate for life.

They are very beautiful birds - it's wrong to say 'pretty' because they are not pretty, they are beautiful. Majestic, despite the fact that they aren't that big.

Thanks, Dave!

Furred , feathered & friends all- A revelation about me, never before revealed on Gaia, I am a Zoology major and at one stage could go into the finer details of The lifestyles of all animals from The Ant to the Zebra, and studied everything from reproduction in Bacteria, to Social structure in mammalian groups. I was also lucky enough to spend the first 21 YEARS of my life on a dairy farm in Ireland. I love all animals and have written several stories- try my blog ans type Animal into the search box- There really are too many to link here. But here's a pic of me with Animals on my face, Mike

Mikey,

There's a Story Room in this Pod, you could perhaps be persuaded to share one or two of your stories there?

That is one awesome picture *yes*

Dov

mia, wolves are awesome. I first fell in love with them through Farley Mowat's Never Cry Wolf. (Later I learned it was mostly fiction but that's another story.)

Hugs,

Nicole
