Sometimes even Bad news can turn out to be good....

Hi all, some of you know me and some don't as I am not in very often.  I have discovered there are more reasons for this then just the excuse of no time, that I tend to hand out without thought.

A recent turn of events brought me into contact with a group concerning Asperger's syndrome, a condition I had learned about years ago, when my one nephew was diagnosed with Autism.

It is not certain that Asperger's is connected with Autism, but about 7 of 10 Autistics  have Asperger's also. There are also quite a number of Aspies (as they like to refer to themselves as) without autistic tenancies.  Thus recently, they've been separated into a ''sub group”, so to speak.

Anyways, to make a VERY long story short, I saw too many “similarities” listed in the one fellow's profile, when compared to mine, so I took the online, and informal test,  and the result was:  I test out a 134 out of 200  as far as there being a chance of me being an Aspie.   This makes it very likely. 

That sounds like bad new.   Let me tell you,  IT ISN'T !

All my life, (50 + years of it now) I have struggled with social, face to face, encounters, made fun of for being “the Geek”, tormented by my inability to look others in the eye when speaking with them, etc, etc.   Now I finally know why.   And the great thing is…..now I have a whole world of information on how to work with, deal with, and sometimes hide, the symptoms of the condition.   I can start to really be social (to an extent),  I can learn to read some “cues and clues” on how and what to say, or when NOT to say something, or at very least, give others an understanding as to WHY I said what I did.   

This is the first time a “bad” diagnosis has ever lifted most of the burdens of the world off my shoulders.  

I still need to get a formal and local testing done, but there is little doubt in what the diagnosis will be.

If anyone wants any more info on this,  please ask and I will be glad to see if I can answer your questions.

Hey Mike!

I was diagnosed with ADHD in June this year - and like you I found it to be the best bad news I have had…so many pieces of the puzzle fell into place :)

And, yes my ADHD plays a big role in why I have not been here for a long while…

Starting projects and not consistently following through is part of having ADHD…and doing things in waves…
So for now I am here for a bit, and I might be for a long bit or short, and then I move to another 'thing' and then back and so on…

I am sorry that I went MIA on you and the Pod, really. However, I couldn't have done differently.

My pods here on Gaia will simply have to live with the fact that their Cultivator get absorbed by something not connected and 'go missing' ever now and then.

I also have ADHD and have known this since my childhood. It is manifested in my firey temper and lack of patience.
