Duplicate bookmarks?

1Vector3 said Sep 25, 2007, 10:08 PM:

I am just venturing into zBookmarks, and am in the learning curve. My current concern is, with tens of thousands of bookmarks already in the database here, what prevents duplicates? How can I know whether I am creating a duplicate? [Perhaps I should just add items til maybe someday I get a message “This already exists…..” but I prefer to know ahead of time so I don't do anything I will want to undo later.]

Also, will there be any way of weeding out obsolete links? Websites do come and go, and pages do come and go……..

I gather zBookmarks is intended for off-site stuff? Is there any aspect of it, or anything like it, for on-site stuff (other than Permalinks?)

I gather when I add to my list, it goes into the database. If I delete from my list, does that item also then delete from the database?

Thanks for the help. It's a waycool function!!!!

Blessings, OM Bastet

hi OM Bastet,

below are my answers to your questions.

“My current concern is, with tens of thousands of bookmarks already in the database here, what prevents duplicates? How can I know whether I am creating a duplicate?”

duplicates are fine. there is no restriction. but what happens is that if you add something that was already added by someone else then their name shows up as the first one to add the bookmark and you'll see a counter that says “Bookmarked by X” where X is the number of people who added the bookmark to their list. in the future we'll improve the bookmark functionality to display all the people who added the bookmark.

“Also, will there be any way of weeding out obsolete links? Websites do come and go, and pages do come and go……..”

nope. no weeding out.

“I gather zBookmarks is intended for off-site stuff? Is there any aspect of it, or anything like it, for on-site stuff (other than Permalinks?)”

the bookmark feature can be used for any web page whether within Zaadz or outside of Zaadz.

“I gather when I add to my list, it goes into the database. If I delete from my list, does that item also then delete from the database?”

if you're the only who one added the bookmark then yeah. it gets deleted. but if there are other people who added that same bookmark then it stays.

the bookmark feature is still a work in progress. we'll have more improvements soon.

Wow, ~C, I adore it when people answer each specific question and don't leave any out. That's not as common as you might think. So appreciated!!!!!

And wow, I understood all your answers!! That's a compliment to us both, I think. :)

Looking forward to more peering through this new window into resources for changing the world…..

Namaste, OM Bastet
