How To: Set your Gaia Privacy Level

~C4Chaos said Mar 11, 2008, 12:42 PM:

To set your privacy level, go to your account page by clicking on Settings (in the 'Me' tab of your sidebar). Under the Privacy section select the level of privacy from the drop down.

Show my profile to “anyone”

The default privacy level is ”anyone”. This means that anyone (both Gaia members and regular visitors to the site) can see your profile, blogs, and photos that you post on Gaia. This is the default privacy setting.

Show my profile to “my friends only”

A privacy level of ”my friends only” means that only your logged-in friends can see your profile, blogs and photos.

Show my profile to “community members only”

A privacy level of ”community members only” means that only logged-in Gaia Community members can see your profile, blogs and photos.

When you select a privacy level of “my friends only” or “community members only” all content under your Gaia domain URL (e.g. your_user_name.gaia.com) will display a restricted access page with a message: “This use has chosen to restrict their profile and content to Gaia members/Gaia friends only.”

Take note that, at the moment, the “community members only” and “my friends only” privacy settings do not hide all the content you post on Gaia. For example, if you upload a photo or post a blog, your action will appear on the public Explore page (i.e. recently posted). However, when someone clicks on the item they will be redirected to the restricted access page.

And finally, remember that even with the restricted privacy settings, anything you post on public areas such as public Groups, comments on Groups, comments on public blog posts, and so on, are still publicly visible. The privacy setting limits access to your domain URL but not content that you post outside of your domain. The privacy feature is intended to limit access to your content, not block all access to all your content.

Enjoy your privacy ;)
