HOW TO: Import Your Bookmarks Into Gaia Bookmarks

~C4Chaos said Sep 29, 2006, 3:08 PM:

Hello Gaia!

In just a few days since the alpha release of Gaia Bookmarks, we now have thousands of bookmarked links! Thanks! Keep them flowing :)

By the way, if you are using your browser's bookmark functionality and other popular social bookmarking tools, such as del.icio.us and ma.gnolia, we invite you to bring over your bookmarks. To do this you need to export your bookmarks into a file and then import them into zBookmarks. Below are the steps on how to do it.

Step #1: Export your bookmarks into a file

Gaia Bookmarks supports the standard formats used by most browsers (.html) and social bookmarking tools (.xml).

To export your bookmarks from your browser:

Internet Explorer (IE) users:

– Go to File -> Import and Export -> Export Favorites
– Then pick the folder of the bookmarks you want to export.
– Name the export file (.html) and save it on your local folder (preferrably on your desktop).

Mozilla Firefox users:

– Go to Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks
– On the main menu, go to File -> Export
– Name the export file (.html) and save it on your local folder (preferrably on your desktop).

Safari users:

– Go to File -> Export Bookmarks
– Name the export file (.html) and save it on your local folder (preferrably on your desktop).

To export your bookmarks from del.icio.us:

Safari and Internet Explorer (IE) Users: – Right-click (or ctrl-click for Mac users) this url, https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all

– Click Save Link As , then name the export file (.xml) and save it on your local folder (preferrably on your desktop).

– Enter your del.icio.us username and password when prompted.
Mozilla Firefox Users: – Go to this del.icio.us url, https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all

– Enter your del.icio.us username and password when prompted

– After the page is loaded, click on File -> Save Page As then name the export file (.xml) and save it on your local folder (preferrably on your desktop).

To export your bookmarks from ma.gnolia:

When exporting bookmarks from ma.gnolia, it's preferable to export using the “enriched format” readable by most browsers.– Login to your ma.gnolia account.

– Go to this ma.gnolia url, http://ma.gnolia.com/export
– Name the export file (.html) and save it on your local folder (preferably on your desktop).

To export your bookmarks from other social bookmarking services:

– Log in to your social bookmarking service.
– Go to the preferences or settings and find the tool for exporting your bookmarks.
– Save your bookmarks into an export file .

Step #2: Import the bookmarks file into Gaia Bookmarks

Once you're done exporting your bookmarks into an export file, all you need to do is,

– Go to http://bookmarks.zaadz.com/import
– On the File input box, browse and select the your export file.
– Click Import

Gaia Bookmarks will then import all your bookmarks along with all the descriptions and tags.
