TomSki, maybe someone else more knowledgable than I will jump in, but here are my attempts to be helpful.

First, does your browser have "tab" capability? If not, the only way you can get "back to your origin" page is via the "back" arrow in your browser toolbar. That SHOULD work. How have you been KEYWORD: "TRYING." ?

Well, there is one more way. IF your browser has opened a new window to get to whatever you clicked on, then closing THAT WINDOW will display the page you started from, still alive and well "in back of" the new window that got opened. At least in IE7 that is how it works. Experiment.

If you have tab capability then it's trivial. When clicking on the new link, use RIGHT CLICK, and select "open in new tab". then the origin page is just a click on the previous TAB and you're there. Be sure to click on x for the tab you are leaving, so you don't get too many going.

Try it all and let me know.

Re the two-links thing for site bookmarks, that is explained in the first two longer paragraphs in my first post in this thread. Have you looked at that carefully? What you are doing first is CREATING or INSTALLING a link or widget that will be displayed ongoingly in your browser toolbar, that says or used to say Zaadz Bookmarks. Then that process is done over fini.

That link is not to the bookmarks that HAVE BEEN CREATED. That link is to a BOOKMARK-CREATING OPERATION. It opens the input box I am about to describe:

From then on, when you are on a site/page you wish to bookmark IN THE COMMUNITY, you click on THAT link in your browser toolbar, and if the gods are willing, an input box will open up allowing you to write a description, make tags, etc. and then click on Save or Done or Whatever, and the bookmark is created in your own Bookmark section (in the Nursery section of your place) AND it goes into the site Bookmark database.

Is that clearer?

I assume you know there is no possible interaction between your browser's bookmark creation-operation or database, and the Gaia Community bookmark-creation-operation and database, except what you manually do as I outlined. You did seem to convey that you knew this, but for future Newbie readers, I wanted to make it explicit here.

What are the "two areas" to add an address to, on the site, that you were referring to? If I know what you are looking at, maybe I can clear up your confusion even better.

Blessings,

OM Bastet

Thank you - I am not sure I have a handle on what you have shared.
NEWBE is definitely what I am.
I had questions and need direction on using the bookmarks.
My SCENARIO . . . . . . . . .
I am presently saving bookmarks to my browser's favorites.

I open a friends profile and they reference a site - I click to activate the hotlink and it opens the site.
I now go to my browser's Favorites/Bookmarks and have it noted.
I then try <KEY WORD TRY> to get back to my friends profile. . . .or maybe post . . .or maybe blog . . .where ever I discovered the hot link to the site I was interested with.. . most times I can not get back to my origins.
NOW I wish to add the site address to my GAIA bookmarks.
I have two areas to add this addres too ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Do you gather I am getting confused ?

IS there a mechanism that I can have the hotlink added to myGAIA bookmarks< < <hopefully the right one of the two. . . .heck both if I can> > > > without opening the hotlink and going through the process of trying to GET BACK to my origins what ever that may be ?

I am sure I did not get this writen well for anyone to understand my meanderings.

Any Help will be greatly appreciated

Namaste,
Tom

      A tip, or a complication:

I have a Google Toolbar in my IE7 browser, and it has a Block Popups feature. If this is set in Block Popups mode, ZBOOKMARKS will not work, because the dialog box is considered a Popup, by the system. So in that case when I am on a webpage I want to bookmark, I have to press Control key simultaneously with clicking on the zBookmarks link in my Links bar/list, in order for the dialog box to open so I can enter the info about the bookmark.

And occasionally, I have to do that twice before it takes me seriously!!!! :)

A partial correction:

Lately after I add a zBookmark I am NOT taken to the zBookmarks pool display, the dialog box where I entered my description and tags just disappears and I am still on the webpage I just zBookmarked. Dunno why the change.

Blessings, OM Bastet

I GET IT!!!!!!! I GET IT!!!!! I am jumping up and down for joy!!!!!

I finally understand (?) this Bookmarking process, and also now understand what was confusing me about it.

May I please now offer the following as my present understanding of it all

THE "FOR DUMMIES" VERSION OF ZAADZ BOOKMARKS (especially the setting-up process.)

Here is what was confusing. There are two links with the same name and they do ENTIRELY different things. One is zBookmarks (http://bookmarks.zaadz.com/) which links into the pool or library of existing zBookmarks, just like Quotes goes to the pool of Quotes, and Pods goes to the list of Pods, and Books goes to the library or pool of books. That is the ordinary kind of link we are all used to.

However, in the instructions for activating or installing the zBookmarking capability for each of us is ANOTHER link called "zBookmarks" which is entirely different. That is the one we are supposed to drag or somehow get into our own computer's browser's sub-list entitled Links within the Favorites/Bookmarks list. (Not just put it in as a Favorite but put it into the list of Links in the Favorites or Bookmarks list, I am not fully clear about the difference but there does seem to be a difference.) (The specifics of that process seem to vary greatly among different browsers and I have nothing to contribute to THAT education!!!)

WHAT THAT LINK DOES is act like a gatekeeper to the zBookmarks library. It is actually a link TO a widget within Zaadz which enables the web page we are on to become a zBookmark. After that link has been established, according to ~C4's directions above, it can be seen by me all the time, or at least I know where it is all the time and could click on it whenever I wish to.

The thing to understand is that is NOT a link to the zBookmarks library as such, the whole big list. It is a link to the process of entering a webpage INTO the library.

Here is how I imagine the process taking place. I am on a cool webpage. I click on my browser-displayed Link called zBookmarks. It takes me from the cool webpage to the Zaadz gatekeeper/widget, who says,

Oh, I see you are on X webpage, and you want to add it to our library. Very well, please fill out this form I am showing you-I have already entered the URL for you-describing what's so great about this page, and when you do that and add some tags, and click on Add [or whatever the button says] I will be glad to add it to our pool and also to your own personal list of zBookmarks." So you duly fill out the form for the gatekeeper, and hand it to him by clicking Add, and he then shows you how it now looks as a duly admitted member of the whole zBookmarks list, over 100, 000 of them so far. You will see yours and the other latest ones.

Then you are done, and you can browse more in the library, or go back to the cool web page.

May this be of significant help to any other DUMMY who is boggled by the process. And as always I invite any corrections, additions, or changes to the above, especially corrections.

P.S. Forgive me I am going to cross post this as a separate thread with a new title, for greater visibility to Newbies.

Made my day!!!! Blessings, OM Bastet
