How Do I Post Embedded Objects on My Blog?

~C4Chaos said Apr 2, 2006, 3:38 PM:

is it possible to post EMBEDDED Objects (e.g. Flash) on Zaadz blog?

here's a sample (yep, this is also to plug how cool i am! lol.)

so, will we be able to edit RAW HTML code instead of just RICH text?

thanks!

dude!  i'm still catching my breath from cutting and pasting pictures!  damn, son!

very cool trick, though.  and some crossroads riffs, there!

tried highlight, copy, paste.  boo!  not that easy

guessing you tried to enter the code here, but it only “posts” as code.

hmmm?

aside from TT being the official pod for amabassadors, can one not ask tech related questions in both? I am downsizing pod membership to simplify and would like to know. Thanks!

Answer:

First copy the code.
Then disable the javascript on your browser:
For Firefox:  Tools > Options > Content > uncheck Enable Javascript

For IE: Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level
> scroll down to Scripting (near the bottom of list), Active
Scripting > Check Disable

Then go to your blog and start a new entry.  The text bar should be gone.  Paste the code.  Post entry.  Voila!!

Make sure to re-enable javascript when you are done if you want the cool Zaadz text bar back.

Matthew:

This is an awesome way to convey information for those with serious learning disabilities, such as myself!  While I don't understand yet a thing you are saying, I KNOW that the information is there, and will emerge with multiple viewings. Maybe. I may have to get my tech consultant to help at this end, but at least you have set out the steps to getting it right.

And you have such a nice voice!  Query: Might it be possible to have some site-section-blog-file that is a “Read Only” compilation (ongoing) of the information that is accumulating here, so that someone just coming in to Zaadz can have basic survival information in one place, such as Blog Etiquette, Pod Etiquette, tour of different functions. I tend to not ask for help until I really can't figure something out, but many people do not have that level of patience, and would just quit andmiss the fun. This file could be continuously updated as new material appears.  Just a thought!  Thanks for all the good feedback here.  DC

Answer: (on a Mac - at least on mine)

First copy the code.
Then disable the javascript on your browser:
For Firefox: Preferences (under Firefox) > Content > uncheck Enable Javascript

BTW: it still didn’t work for me (adding the zaadz banner to my MySpace page) :o(

Okay. So I disabled active scripting and put the video in my profile. Then I could not access my yahoo mail (new, beta), and our website at work which uses java.

So I enabled the active scripting and then those two pages worked. But then I thought of something I wanted to add to my profile and didn’t bother the embedded video. When I clicked update, the video was gone.

So I added the video back and then enabled scripting so I could access the web pages I need to for now.

I just won’t update my profile until I can figure out what is up. Maybe this is a bug, my internet settings, or maybe it is my limited knowledge of this shtuff. Any help is appreciated.

I hope this makes sense.

(and is there supposed to be a spell check on pod posts? i don’t see one)

Call me impatient or crazy for replying to my own posts 4 times in one day. Call me persistent for figuring out that once I paste the code in, I have to change the height and width of the video on two different places. Cool!!

hi Kari,

what i do is i ALWAYS disable Javascript before updating entries with embedded objects, then ALWAYS switch back and enable the Javascript after the update.

adding and updating embedded objects is still a bit complicated right now. but the wizards are working on stuff to make the integration easier. this will happen soon enough.

i can't wait for that too! yep, that's a very cool video :)

Yes, Kari, really cool video. But I'm having the same issue with my profile. I was able to add a scrolling slide but now the alignment is all screwy. I did the java script deactivation, posted the copied text, then reactivated it. The slide is showing up now but my profile is all screwy. The photo and items that are usually to the left of the page are stacked on top in the center. Help!!

Thanks!!

Hi Artemisilke,

If you have the embed code from Odeo, you should be able to use the method outlined here to get it on your profile.  What part are you having difficulty with?

Hi Matthew,
it took me a while to find my post and your answer in this group, but I should get a notification now.

I don't have any ODEC I would like to have one. I do have audio clips at my myspace site. If I would have to subscribe to ODEC, I would rather use the myspace audios instead (if I can); but ODEC seem simple, because I do really only need space for 1 audiotrack.

Thanks,

Silke

It actually doesn't matter what the service is, be that ODEO or myspace, as long as your audio clips have some type of embed code, you should be able to use the directions listed in this thread to add them to your pages.

Re: How Do I Post Embedded Objects on My Blog?

~Matthew said Nov 19, 2008, 7:08 AM:

Embed code is just the html you're using to embed into your page.  For example if you go here, you see the embed code next to the video.  Any service that allows you to embed video or music should have something like that somewhere for you to copy.

here are the steps to post YouTube videos (Or Google videos) on your blogs and pod posts using Firefox on Mac.

1) Disable Javascript on your Firefox brower.
Go to Firefox -> Preferences -> (Uncheck) Enable Javascript

Note: Disabling the Javasacript makes the text box (text-only), meaning that you can post HTML tags as text.

2) Start a new post. Then cut and paste the “embedded” code (code in between embedded tags) of the video from Youtube into your post (blog or pod).

3) Once the post is up, don't forget to Enable the Javascript.
Go to Firefox -> Preferences -> (Check) Enable Javascript.

i know that this is still a bit complicated. but bear with us because it will soon be easier to add YouTube videos to your blog in just a click of a button :)

How about a Picasa slideshow? I'm unable to embed it, even though I used the javascript disabling feature- I'd like to post it as a blog entry.

i'm assuming you're talking about embedding Picasa album from your Google Photos. if so, then it should be the same as posting embedded objects.

1) go to your Picasa album.

2) click on “Embed Slideshow”. this will give you the code to embed on your blog. copy the code.

3) go to your Zaadz blog. click on new entry.

4) disable/turn off Javascript. see this.

5) paste the slideshow code. e.g. all the code in between <embed> and </embed> including the embed tags. save the blog post.

6) don't forget to enable/turn on Javascript! see this.

that should do it.

Do you mind check ing what I've done wrong? All I see is the html code.
