Music...

Nishtha said Dec 15, 2006, 2:30 PM:

Today I will be attending the birthday party for a singer/songwriter friend of mine…. She is one of my heroes….she has a gift for composing songs, lyrics and melodies, that simultaneously vibrate my heart strings and my mental processes. She has no idea how powerful a woman she is….

For her birthday present, I decided to compile a CD with some of my favorite songs to share with her. My hope is that I can begin to engage in dialogue and discussion with her about the ramifications of her power…

I included a song, Woman In Chains, by one of my favorite bands of the 1980's (my heyday but not hers). As I listened to the lyrics of the song, my thoughts were full of her, and all the other women who I sense are carrying a heavy burden. The tears came, unbidden, and rolled down my cheeks…

Over and over, I listen to this song. I give myself permission to cry, for as long as I feel I need to…. then my crying stops and I hear the message at the end, “so free her, so free her (the sun and the moon), so free her,  (the wind and the rain), so free her, so free her….”

I have a thought. I have a wish. I have no action plan. But that's okay. My intention and desire are enough….. for now.

I have returned to the 1980's vibrationally…..

Then, like now, we had a two-term Republican president in the White House waging unjust war in foreign lands, justifying aggressive actions in the name of “democracy” when, in actuality, the intention was economic profit and power for the already wealthy and powerful….

If I allow myself to sit in this particular vibration, I make myself ill. It has happened before. I know the symptoms.

However, this time, I have stumbled upon a treatment. This time, I have discovered Music as Medicine.

* When I feel powerless, belligerent, morose, or dejected, THIS works for me. I take as many doses as I feel I need, before or after meals, any time of day. (After the latest US presidential address, I have been overdosing….with no adverse side effects! Just a firmer resolve, a plethora of options for flexibility of attitude and action….)

* When I am fortified and alive, yet unclear of purpose or direction or course of action, THESE TWO, are perfect supplements to my daily diet. Their effectiveness is increased when combined with essential vitamins and minerals!

If my music/medicine works for you, please let me know….I will be happy to dole out more prescriptions, free of charge!

You are so right, Nishtha, everything that is consists of vibration. Even with great physical pain, the power of misic sooths. Some years ago I was in great pain and the only thing that could give me relief was music, I would sit down with my guitar, begin playing and singing, by the third song the pain was gone. I believe that this process works on every level if allowed, mental, physical, and spiritual
