Grey Just testing URLs in the grapevine. This link will take you to Pelle's blog: http://is.gd/ixdm (I want to see if this gets converted to a link or if you have to copy and paste it.) (9 months ago)

Grey Oof! Just saw this now, Siona.... Yeah, flutters I think it was... no, "flaps", but I don't like it much. "Flutter" was the name to replace "Grapevine". Anyway, I just used "tweets" here because it's more readily recognizable. :) (9 months ago)

Integral Last.fm group

Hi,

I'm new to the Integral Pod and thought about starting with introducing a group I created recently on Last.fm. It's a place for integral discussion on music and seeing what other people with an integral worldview listen to. Everyone's welcome to join in: http://www.last.fm/group/Integral+Listening

Here's a short description of last.fm from wikipedia:

“Using a music recommender system called “Audioscrobbler”, Last.fm builds a detailed profile of each user's musical taste by recording details of all the songs the user listens to, either on the streamed radio stations, the user's computer or many portable music devices. This information is transferred to Last.fm's database (“scrobbled”) via a plugin installed into the user's music player. The profile data is then displayed on the user's profile page. The site offers numerous social networking features and can recommend and play artists similar to the user's favourites.”

Hi smlak, welcome to this group !!! Thanks for the fascinating information. Technology is amazing. This particular technology is one of those two-perspective dealies: very useful, and very Big Brother-ish, one of those currently voluntary privacy invasions, like shopping cards.

Are you finding similarities in what integrally-interested folks listen to? Any generalizations you can venture so far from your database? What would you DO with any generalizations you could form, or do you see the group mostly as for swapping info about relevant music?

Blessings, OM Bastet

Thanks 1Vector3 :)

Yes, I think I've found some similarities. For one, integral folk tend to pay a lot more focus on the lyrics. One crude example; “gangsta” rap won't pass through without at least a hint of a smile. And from what I've gathered, the intention behind the creation of a musical piece becomes magnified under an integral attention and becomes quite an important aspect of what such a person looks for in music. For example, was the intention on making more money or raise the listeners consciousness etc.

I'm not saying this applies to all integral people, just to some whom I've observed. Hmm, it's an interesting question what to do with these generalizations. I don't know. I was thinking that the group would be a good place for a discussion on how music can affect the development of consciousness and what would an integral listening/composing consist of. For example, will the listener always filter the lyrical content (as with any information) through his or her stage of development no matter how transcendent the content might be, and thus miss the actual message of the lyrics. Or does it even matter? :)
