Register for the 2010 ITC conference today

Liz said Nov 1, 8:04 AM:

Sorry about starting a new thread. Every time I try to load the old one, my browser comes to a complete halt. I'll delete this later if I can fix that.

Today is the first day to register for the conference. The bad news is that you have to pay for it up front. You can't register without a credit card.

The good news is that if you are sure you want to volunteer, they will be holding some spaces aside for that, and there's no need to pay now. If you're not sure, you can pay now and be refunded later if you volunteer.

And now, to read the Halloween thread I missed yesterday!

Liz

Yeah, cost in full this far in advance. Well, I am regarding it as a donation to the University to help it operate between now and then, and to help pay costs of putting on the conference. So they can have my money now, it's like an extra donation, in a way. To a worthy cause, for sure. That's the perspective I choose in lieu of the stress of They Shouldn't. But I agree, it's not an optimal approach on their part.

Ohh, I did volunteer, didn't remember that would waive registration fee. I did go ahead and register anyway, because I have no idea, they might not accept my volunteering and I would find out after registration is maxed out!!

Thank you thank you Liz for all this useful information !!! It is a kindness !!!!

I think it's fine to have a new thread starting now. IMO. The old one must be too long already to load well, so best it goes dormant.

I noticed in the fine print that the $343. reg. fee (which doesn't include lunches which seem to be payable later or there, so I opted out of pre-paying) also doesn't include “workshops.” Gulp. What's that about, how many workshops would I go to, how much, when and how to pay for those??? Anyone know?

Blessings, OM Bastet

I registered, I am so looking forward to this. I didn't volunteer, not because I'm lazy but if I have the rare opportunity to gp all that way, I plan to suck very minute out of the conference that I can.

Liz said Nov 1, 11:10 AM:

The workshops are new this year, and I think they happen before the conference starts, on Thursday. I will be training for volunteering, anyway, so I wouldn't be able to go. I have no idea what they will be.

See, if they didn't require payment yet, just a deposit, then more people could plan to go and save up…it would mean that folks who aren't really sure if they can afford it could get a foot in the door. I'm disappointed about that, but there it is.

And Liz, I totally understand. It's really not much to pay at all, and if you're paying for the flight here anyway, then it really doesn't make sense to miss any of it by volunteering. We did miss out on some things we wanted to see because we were working in other rooms. But we did get a chance to pick times we really wanted to be free to see certain programs, so it worked out well.

Can't wait to see you, Liz, and meet you, OM.

This time last year I bought Bob Dylan tickets for a concert that wasn't till May, so for me paying in advance isn't unusual.  I still have to save for the flight, but I have some dollars I exchanged ages ago and always kept, in the intention that one day I'd be back and the rate would probably not be the 2:1 I got at the time.
So I have a conference pass, accomodation for those days and some spending dollars. Just need a flight ticket now:-)
I must drop Irmeli a note, I'm wondering about going from Amsterdam to SF, as it would save me going via Heathrow.

For me it means I leave home, say at 8, airport at 9, flight at 12…to Heathrow.
International then 3 hours, so not before 4.
So at 5pm I fly back over Glasgow, already having travelled for 9 hours. And thats if the timings are good.
I can save about 5 hours by going via Amsterdam

I've just sent my proposal to an experienced editor of one of the integral journals, to get some feedback, so I guess I'll get an indication tomorrow of how I'm doing :)

Thanks for the encouragement, y'all.  I turned in two proposals, one for a workshop and one for a paper/presentation.  Not sure of what the interest level in either would be, but it was what I could come up with at the 11th hour!  A workshop on “Integral TSK” practices, and a presentation on an Integral approach to interfaith (intra-level as well as inter-level) relations and “post-metaphysical inclusivism.”
Pelle, I wish you the best of luck with your proposal.  I think you've got something great to offer.

Arthur and I were just talking bout you and your dedication to interfaith relations, a couple of days ago! Your ability to dialog with people on their own level—with compassion and strength—is something special, a gift you bring to the world. I hope you get to share that with everyone at the conference!

Bruce,
I totally concur with Liz & Arthur. From post modern nihilism to postmodern and earlier religion, you have a wonderfully patient compassion with those apparently 'fixed' perspectives that I pray have a transformative effect on my own attempts in those areas. We'll see…I used to watch Jack Lalanne frequently but I certainly won't attempt pulling a row boat across the bay, {;-)

Pelle, it's hard to say, since I don't know the content of your presentation, but how about having people come up with examples from their own lives of what you're talking about and then applying what you're teaching to those situations in some way?

Re: Register for the 2010 ITC conference today

Tely said Nov 13, 5:19 PM:

Pelle, I just had another idea.  When we've had discussions on gender online, they've gotten quite heated.  What if you were to offer the audience a topic, facilitate a discussion, let that same kind of heat get generated, then discuss the perspectives that are expressed through an integral lens.  The main problem I foresee with this would be that people might be offended if their perspective is identified as being anything less than “Integral,” but I imagine there would be a way to do it gracefully so as to minimize the ego fallout.

Pelle, that was one of the challenges with what I thought I might present, too. Not easily interactive, and not easily visual.

Questions and answers?? Like maybe give a situation and ask for input about it in some way, such as how the audience thinks differing stages would see or deal with the situation, then give your ideas? Might even expand your own insights that way.

People do love to talk, hahaha.

Looking forward,
OM

Holding the vision that you're at the conference, perhaps even while keeping your pickup truck. Let Life/the Universe surprise you with an easy way to get there – don't limit the options to “I have to pay my own way with my own money.”

Pelle, sorry I didn't see this before.

I like what Tely said, and what comes to me is that at the core of what you are presenting is a wounding of men. This is very deep and can bring up, as she said, some powerful emotions. In the last conference, this happened in the Integral Feminism session.

Perhaps just starting right out with how men feel. What has hurt them, what is NOT OK to talk about in this society, etc. You already know what their answers are going to be, and you can address that with a lot of heart. This has tremendous transformational potential. The men and women in that session could come away with a much deeper understanding of each other and take that out into the world with them, in a way that our online discussions can never achieve.
