A lurker is listening here, contemplating the possibility of "challenging" the incredibly biased Wikipedia entry on Colloidal Silver. Still just contemplating. And I am no expert about it, so I doubt anything I say would be valuable, just reporting from books I've read.....

Prolly should get the book-writers, but they are already at risk. Isn't that sad. At actual risk of persecution for distributing the truth, even if it's just the truth as they see it, -- based on centuries of information, haha....

Thanks, Grey, pretty interesting to get these glimpses into the Wikipedia world. My interest in letting people know about this is to get people to flesh out the article, not to support a particular side. When I wrote the stub I tried to make it as neutral as possible (in accordance with Wikipedia principles).

Ideally, people with an interest in integral matters will ultimately take up other related subjects as well.

Oh yeah! The concept of a "meatpuppet" (from the Wikipedia page):

Meatpuppet is a Wikipedia term of art meaning one who edits on behalf of or as proxy for another editor. While Wikipedia assumes good faith especially for new users, the recruitment of new editors to Wikipedia for the purpose of influencing a survey, performing reverts, or otherwise attempting to give the appearance of consensus is strongly discouraged. A new user who engages in the same behavior as another user in the same context, and who appears to be editing Wikipedia solely for that purpose, shall be subject to the remedies applied to the user whose behavior they are joining.^[1] The term meatpuppet is derogatory and should be used only with care.
Do not recruit meatpuppets. It is considered highly inappropriate to advertise Wikipedia articles to your friends, family members, or communities of people who agree with you, so that they come to Wikipedia and support your side of a debate. (underlining for emphasis mine)

Since what we're doing here could be construed by other editors as an attempt at "meatpuppetry", I thought it was important to point out that this is a promotion of Wikipedia editing generally, not a call to take up any one specific "fight" or debate. And there is no current debate about the Integral Life Practice article that I'm aware of, and I'm not personally involved in any active debates in relation to Wikipedia articles, integral-related or otherwise (although I have been in the past).

The text continues:

Wikipedia has policies and processes to mitigate the disruption caused by meatpuppetry:
Consensus in many debates and discussions is not based upon number of votes, but upon policy-related points made by editors. Newcomers are unlikely to understand Wikipedia policies and practices, or to introduce any evidence that other users have not already mentioned.

I thought this was interesting in relation to holacracy (btw, there's no article about that on Wikipedia either...) and making decisions by consent. I don't think what Wikipedia is doing is holacratic per se (and "consensus" is not exactly the same thing as "consent"), but it's interesting that it's not based on majority vote either.

Anyway, thought that disclaimer needed to be said. So for all newbies that this discussion attracts, just to be on the safe side, hold off on entering any ongoing debates (especially related to integral topics) until you've had a chance to gain some editing experience.

[Edit:] But do feel free to edit the Integral Life Practice article (and any other Wikipedia articles) however you feel is appropriate and however you feel moved to.

I forgot the most basic instruction:

To edit an article, just click on the "edit this page" tab at the top of the article. That will enable you to edit the entire article. To edit a specific section, click on the "edit" link in the upper right corner of the section in question.

BTW, the same editing and markup techniques apply to the "discussion" page should you want to discuss the editing of the article with other Wikipedians. Just add a new section (if necessary) and start typing away. Then sign your post by typing four tildes in a row: ~~~~. That will automatically insert your user name and the time and date. (To indent your response to someone else, prefix all of your paragraphs with one more colon than the entry you're replying to.)

Adding to an existing article is certainly easier than creating a new one. The main things to be careful of are maintaining a "neutral point of view" (NPOV) and avoiding "original research".

Then there are some markup methods, but the most common ones are pretty easy to learn by example. But here are some of the ones that come to mind that you're most likely to need:

Italics: enclose text in two single quotes (i.e. ' ' italicized text ' ' -- I've inserted spaces here to mimic how it will look in Wikipedia edit mode and to make it clear that it's not the actual "quotation marks", but you should do it without spaces);
bold: like italics but with three single quotes before and after, not two;
references to other Wikipedia articles: enclose the term in double square brackets (e.g. [[strength training]] ) -- as long as the term used in the article and enclosed in brackets is the same as the title of the article, that's all you need to do (if it's different, use [[spiritual transformation|transformation]], where the first term is the actual article title and the second term is how you want it to appear in the article);
new section: enclose section title in double equal signs for a main section or triple equal signs (and so on) for sub-sections (e.g. ==Techniques== or ===Shadow work===).

Anything beyond that can be added or corrected by someone with more experience, or you can ask me again for more specific techniques. There are also lots of help pages at Wikipedia, of course, and you can always look at the edit page of any article to learn by example.

So the article stub is live now here. I made it a "spirituality stub" because I couldn't find an existing stub category that fit better.

I should also point out that not too long ago there was a push by certain editors to aggregate anything and everything "integral" into just a few articles, so a number of the Wiki links in the stub redirect to other articles. I say this, too, because I suspect there's a good chance someone will try to redirect this article, as well. But we'll have to wait and see. We can possibly prevent that by fleshing the article out as quickly as we can, so that it stands on its own better.

Integral Life Practice, often abbreviated ILP, is an approach to personal growth and transformation which aims to account for all aspects of one's being. Unlike the earlier, similar Integral Transformative Practice (ITP) popularized in George Leonard and Michael Murphy's seminal work The Life We Are Given, ILP is based explicitly around Ken Wilber's integral/AQAL framework.

One of the central principles of ILP is that certain practices interact synergistically to produce a greater effect than any of them alone. For example, meditation practitioners find that if also take up a strength training practice, they will progress much faster in their meditation practice.

In 2008, a comprehensive book on the subject was published by Shambhala - Integral Life Practice: A 21st-Century Blueprint for Physical Health, Emotional Balance, Mental Clarity, and Spiritual Awakening, by Ken Wilber, Terry Patten, Adam Leonard, & Maro Morelli.

And that goes for the Ken Wilber article and any of the other "integral" entries. The more eyes that are there looking out for vandalism (I undid some vandalism in the Wilber article just yesterday) and people who just plain don't know what they're talking about, the better.

A comment on the ILP book - I purchased this last week - quite like it. All info and basics in one place - very user friendly. I probably have sold 5 copies of this to friends and am using it in many discussions. I think it's a great tool for introducing all this material to those who are on the cusp. In November I'm planning to start an Integral Living Salon in Boise and will use this book as a foundation.
