Sorry to say this, Arthur, but your explanation doesn't match the message you sent with your post up above. If you wanted to invite a serious inquiry into your hypotheses about what kinds of humor are crossing the line, why post it here among our jokes?

I can't imagine you being unaware that you were pouring the equivalent of a bucket of ice water on the jokes & laughs thread - the one place where signs of vitality, even raucousness, had recently emerged. Things happen in context, not as isolated events. Within the hour, you questioned whether this pod was on its deathbed and if it even deserved to be kept on life-support now that you've mostly moved on.

What Is the Use of THE INTEGRAL POD? (do we still need it?)

For those of us who have been around while three other Integral forums were pushed and pulled in similar ways over the course of months, this brings up memories. Seeing quite a few signs of the pattern that became evident as early as during the split-up of the first Integral Naked community before parts of it moved to the Multiplex, I feel a little worn out.

Relax. A fellow regular ole' pod member (me) expressed mixed feelings about some of the humor and raised some questions about it does not mean it's "not welcome" here - all it means is that one person expressed mixed feelings and asked some questions (of himself as much as anyone else).

I'm the one who posted the "Naylin' Paylin" thing a while back. Was that over the hypothetical line that I'm speculating about?

I was thinking along the same lines before I went ahead, throwing caution to the wind and posting that last skewering of Mr. McCain. For me, laughing out loud after the nightmare of these past 8 years seems to be coming to an (still pretty disastrous) end was helpful, even if a bit cathartic in its expression.

But I'm not inclined to push my stuff in venues where it isn't welcome. Even though Mary originally started this thread with words hinting at unconditional encouragement:

"Bring 'em on, peeps! Jokes, that is: bad or good, pre or trans, flatland or 4-quad …"

...I'll take my more scathing humor or controversial statements elsewhere from now on.

I find some of this political stuff pretty funny, although it's also true that I sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable with the apparent mean-spiritedness that sometimes comes up (including from me). I feel that it's incredibly important for Obama to win the upcoming election, but can't it be done respectfully? Where does humor cross the line into cruelty, unfair personal attack or mob-mentality?

Check out The Presidential Roast clips Corey just posted on Integral Life for some good-natured humor on both sides of the aisle. And check out the Integral Politics Videos FREE on Integral Life thread; this is the kind of stuff that's needed to heal the culture wars, in my opinion.

For everyone else, there is widespread agreement that McCain really did try everything he could to win this election. Though it was often unclear what demographic he was trying to reach.

–The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration. The possibility of a McCain/Palin election is prompting the exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O'Reilly.

Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields at night. I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn,” said farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders .

The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry. “He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?”

In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. “Not real effective,” he said. “The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much they wouldn't give milk.”

Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them across the border and leave them to fend for themselves. “A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions,” an border patrolman said. “I found one car load without a drop of drinking water. “They did have a nice little cabernet, though.”

When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about the McCain administration establishing re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to shoot wolves from airplanes, deny evolution, and act out drills preparing them for the Rapture.

In recent days, liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior citizen passengers on Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney hits to prove they were alive in the '50s. “If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious about their age,” an official said. Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.

“I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them,” an resident said. “How many art-history and English majors does one country need?”

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads.. It's
likely she can also think.
