Aloha everybody. So here's my early morning thoughts, I would really appreciate some input… I work in Education and Prevention for an HIV Orginization. Recently I did a number of surveys with the MSM community (Men who have sex with men - gay identified or not) since in my community they are still the largest growing population who are becoming infected (second place were women who believed they were in a monogamous relationship). The survey was a qualitative one regarding their perception of condom use. Everyone of the participants had a working knowledge that condoms and/or lube use lowered the risk of transmitting the HIV virus, but the information alone was not enough to merit wearing a condom (reasons for not using a condom included: decresed sensitivity, depending on the perception of the person one was having sex with, condoms aren't fun, I'm in love, drug or alcohol use, the heat of the moment, knowledge of the other person's HIV status, long term versus onenight stand interactions etc) When I took over the position of Director in March I realized that the community perceived us as the “Condom Police” - that brought up all my “Blue” issues - I don't want to be a condom evangelist. So I am thinking in terms of colors, levels, spirals and would love some input from those not as attached to this as I am (any AQAL input is valued too, but my mind has been thinking in terms of colors). It would be great to increase effectiveness and have an inpact on the spread of this virus in my community. I recently recieved a tiny grant and was able to purchase some “fun” items (Like Glow-in-the-dark condoms and packets of warming lube). I have found that these flashy - see my dick stand out in the dark - items, appeals to narcissistic Reds; they were grabbing them up. Blues tend to revolve around abstinence or the “shoulds” of wearing condoms - I think we have that one down good. The people i intereact with are a large mix of various stages and colors. Any thoughts on communicating with Greens, Oranges, Yellows, Purples (who believe they are protected by the Universe or some all natural cure) Blues, Reds, etc ? Thanks
