Moses : Children are a heritage

Dear Friends,

Moses said Aug 19, 2007, 9:57 AM:

Its with great pleasure to introduce myself on this pod. It is indeed a great one because it has  great people!

I am a social scientist, an entreprenuer and a founder and CEO of a child rights rights orgnaisation- Joy for Children-Uganda. I also have a pod Children of Africa here on Zaadz. I must confess , I like children.

I can to learn about integral from a great friend of mine Donata
I was asking, at one of the pods on zaadz, why Africa remain poor despite of the efforts being made even by the developed countries. She told me learn about integral and promised me support which she has done up to now. Thanks to her kind and big heart. She reffered me to the I-I which visited and got the basics of the approach. I knew that would not help me and had to go out to look for ken Wilbers book.

I first moved to the our biggest and oldest university - Makerere ( at times refered to as the fountain of knowledge) but I was shocked that they did not have any of his books. I did stop there, i went to Aristoc Book store (the Amazon of Uganda) they also didnt have any but searched the internet and said they could order for me. One of the books i had asked for Sex, ecology and spirituality………if that is the right one,  they told me its  about $100 when it brought to uganda which turned to be very expensive for me.

I continued being close to those with integral vision  on zaads and networking  withthem and they have all been good and so helpful to me. Until recently when I landed on Integral pod on Zaadz and right away wrote to Adastra who gave me an invitation to the this pod, I am so grateful to you I have found the right community with in the right community.

To the rest of the people with Integral vision you are doing amazing job. And if everyone learnt about integral and definately he/she would apply it and the world would a better place for every one. I have already share integral approach with my friends and have  liked it so much. We want to carry it on and  make it know to people in Uganda and beyond. And we will very soon suprise you, what we will come out with. Watch this space!

Please if any one can send us a book on intergal we will be very  grateful. We  believe  awareness is a great agent of change and this can be best attained through education and sharing information.

Thank you for sharing informationand allowing me to be part of change that is disired in the world

God Bless you.

Welcome Moses!
It is wonderful to have you here.

I'd be happy to send you A Brief History of Everything, which I would recommend reading before Sex, Ecology, and Spirituality anyway.

Looking forward to your contributions to our conversations in the pod.

Blessings,
Lauren

I've copied your address from your profile page and am posting it here in case others wish to send you other Wilber books or donations:

Moses- Arthur and I would like to send you some stuff. I have the Kosmic Consciousness CD set. It was given to me with the understanding that I would pass it along at some point to someone who could really use it. I'd love for that to be you. This may be a stupid question, but I have no idea of your circumstances. Do you have a CD player?

Arthur and I also have many of Ken's books, and we'll go through them to day and see which one we'd like to send you. As I know that Lauren is true to her word, I will make sure I don't duplicate her efforts.

I'm delighted to have you here on the pod!

Welcome, Moses. It looks like you are doing fantastic work. I wish you all the best.

I think A Theory of Everything and probably the new The Integral Vision would be good books to start with.

Moses, one organization you might try to contact is an organization called Product (Red). A portion of the profit of the products they and participating companies sell is donated to the United Nations Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, which then distributes the money. Product (Red) has already sent $36 million to the Global Fund, $19.6 million of which has then been distributed to Swaziland and Rwanda. Product (Red) was founded by rock star Bono, who has a particular interest in Africa.

I happen to have been a classmate of the president of Product (Red) and know that she is a very nice person. It may be kind of a long shot, but if you could get the interest of Product (Red), who must have influence with the U.N. Global Fund program having given them $36 million, then your organization might be able to get Global Fund money. I haven't seen my friend for years, but if you like I could contact her and let her know about your organization and see if there is anything she might be able to do. Perhaps I could put you two in contact. Although they don't give money directly to organizations, they make occassional trips to Africa.

Other people interested in helping out generally could buy Product (Red) products. They include an American Express Red card, which would give 1% of all your purchases to the U.N. Global Fund.

Blessings,

David

Moses, actually, having looked into it a little more deeply, I find that contacting Product (Red) would not be of help. You were probably well aware of this already, but you would have to go through the channels the United Nations has set up in Uganda. On the slight chance you don't know about the program, here is the contact information for the U.N. Global Fund in Uganda.

All the best,

David

Thank you Lauren, Aurthur and Liz and David for the warm welcome on this pod. You have made me feel loved, supported and trusted. For the gift of books, is owesome, because i know what it means getting them in Uganda and  the impact they will create will never be measured.

Thank you for giving me opportunity to share on your world.

Hi Moses,

Welcome to the pod!

It is so good to see an African in this pod, that is normally dominated by Americans and Europeans. The integral movement needs diversity!

I greatly admire the work you're doing, and I suggest that anyone who sends you Integral material lists all books/CDs/etc right here in this thread so you don't receive duplicates.

I'm very much looking forward to the perspectives you can bring to this pod.

Warmly,
Pelle

Hey Moses,
Great to hear from you. I have a number of CDs and talks that I can send you. I'll have to find them. I just gave away my ILP kit (bummer) or I would have sent it to you.

Welcome, and keep letting us know how we can help out.

Hi Arthur

I did visit the blog ( Blue Africa Conudrum) and found it very exciting.  Daniel asked a very good question too. We need to create awareness about integral. It's a shame that it has not reached the academic circles in Africa especially my country Uganda which i am familiar with.

I have started “speading the word”. last tuesday, about five of us meet to discuss about integral and we agreed that we will be meeting every week to share what we will have learnt. I know the number will keep growing……… Like you have already done,  keep more information materials flowing.

Hi Moses

Liz and I sent off the package a couple of days ago, and according to the post office you can expect to see it in a couple of weeks; it contains the Kosmic Consciousness CD set and The Essential Ken Wilber.

You may also be interested in reading a post about the Developing Nations copyright scheme, which has the potential to make integral and other useful material more widely available in developing nations.

Moses,

Hi and a belated welcome to the pod and world of Integral from me. Just found this thread and I am very touched by it.

I am going to send you -

Sex, Ecology, Spirituality
A Theory of Everything
A Sociable God
Integral Spirituality

and some assorted materials, including print and an extra copy I have a Howard Gardner's Intelligenc Reframed (relevant for education and children's intellectual well-being and potentials).

How's that sound?

I'll let you know when I get the package in the mail but it should be even today or tomorrow or at any rate very soon since I usually make at least one trip to the post office every day.

Good?

(I sympathize with being faced with exhorbitant book prices. There aare still a bunch of books I need for my own current project that remain upwards of 100 or more -some 300 or more!)

I wonder if we shouldn't start some kind of a book-trade or book-lending thread?

Peace, Tim

Yar!  I once knew a guy who, when needing to have expensive texts he could ill afford, would do an Inter-Library Loan (they were rarely available at his local library), photocopy it, and have it spiral bound at Kinko's.  He was a scurvy dog with a scandalous disregard for copyright, but an OK fellow in his own weird way.
