Fun day!

I'm in Sacramento, that sun-flooded palm tree heaven (in the eyes of Canadians, at least, eh?) hanging out with Liz and Arthur. We've spent the day enjoying Liz's home-made sausage, eggs, Canadian organic dark chocolate, American organic dark chocolate, crisp autumn strolling by a pond, bright park murals of goddesses and butterflies and rainbow spirals, Earl Grey tea, multicolored frogs, and In-N-Out burgers.

Sitting in the computer lab at Liz's place of work at the moment, right across from Arthur, who is currently posting pictures on the “evocative images” thread ….

Happy,

Benji, Sacramento can't really be construed as “cool” by any other standard than temperature at the moment, but it is an up-and-coming kinda place. I like to think I discovered it before it was even marginally hip.

Anyway, you can comfort yourself with the knowledge that I'm unable to live with less uber-coolness than where I am. I'm simply weak, in other words. Only the truly integrally strong can live in first-tier hell and transcend it. I'm still on the mountaintop, so to speak, where it's easy to practice loving-kindness. Hey lol, inbreeding? Are you in Norfolk? Bootifool……….

I have been saying every time folk get together over there that we should do something over here.
Call me Tiki by all means, when I met Liz and mary and co in Boulder, they all called me tiki, it was really odd at first, because of course I'm only that cyber land where people don't talk. I'm quite used to it now though.

The London Integral Circle have fairly regular meetups and gary hawke facilitates a practice group, but I haven't been able to get there so far. It might be near you (if you are not in Norfolk but in breeding somewhere else).

If Jane gets here, we'll organise something for people to come and meet if they want to.
The invitation to use my new tub was specifically for Jane, who has provided counselling through the installation of the new bathroom. I took a week's holidays to have this done.
It is Thursday, the old bathroom is ripped out, I have an empty room where it used to be.
The tiler has now apparently had to go pick up a sick wife from work (!!!!!!!!) so won't be here till the afternoon. No one showed on Monday at all. I have the new fittings in my garage, but they brought the wrong bath, the new one is supposed to come today.

I know it's not going to be finished tomorrow, but if I lose the plot and chuck the guys out (assuming they ever come back) then I'll be in an even bigger mess.

Oh and the best tea is Yogi Chai, it's the only green tea that doesn't taste of grass!

I love the idea of a get together if / when Jane comes over if it's do-able from my side. I don't know if it's a phenomenon already well documented by social psychologists, but I feel so drawn to and warm towards the people I've met and interracted with on this forum, in this community. Well, I am due to leave to Vancouver later today. I hear they have been expecting 2feet of snow and freezing rain last night. I am on my way to the Brew Creek Workshop with Robert Masters….for the weekend, then visting my friend JoAnn and then my sister Johanne in Victoria….Arthur if you are back in town by then, perhaps wecan havelunch onthe fourth….I am looking forward to this adventure but there isalso freezing rain expected on the 92 mile trip to the toronto airport tonight from my mom’s place….in short the weather sucks…..

I wish you were all coming to the Brew Creek thing, the hot tub and the secluded mountain lodge….the big fireplace….

I am wondering about what work I am going to try to pull off in myself. I am sure it will be about the frustration that I feel in the hidden ‘we’ space…..when isolation and dishonesty abound…..I would like to figure out a magic formula to dettach from it, and yet I wonder if the opposite is what is called for….there are a number of residual knots in my life that I would love to take the energy out of, process, and move on to a more creative approach….. It is amazing how so much of my limitation (perhaps true for all of us) is really a factor of how I am perceiving the world around me.

I have been thinking a lot the hidden under currents….sort of the hidden, silent spiritual symphony that keeps old patterns repeating, and seems to have a self protective cloaking device to escape ever being addressed head on……the soulscape of ‘we’ space that can only ever be gleaned by practitioners who continually do their best to remain curious, and non-judgemental, and seek the deeper truth….

I often feel like I am caught in the webs of fear that others spin….and if not caught, then at least limited in my interactions with them by their own fear….And then, this sounds arrogant, and I have to wonder what I have projected out there that, indeed, is actually ‘mine’………….

oh, there are stories that weave into above, as illustrative examples, but it is not any particular story line that interests me, but the process, the pattern that repeats itself with such mediocre results…..and then on the other hand, sometimes there really are miracles too….. I am such a novice.
Anyway, off into the day, of dreary rain, freezing rain, Vancouver snow and black ice on the Whistler highway…not at all the kind of day that should invite a traveller…..

Uh-oh.  Looks like I've killed the lyrics thread.  <gulp>  Well, an automatic error report is generated, so let's wait a bit and see if it gets fixed.

I was posting Peter Gabriel's lyrics for “In Your Eyes” - might have been trying to cut&paste Tam's “Shorn Again Christian” pic that did it; maybe those pics are formatted in a thread-killing way.  :0

Then I was going to post some Joan Armatrading lyrics.  Oh well, later for that.

I'm on 4.5 hours sleep last night, following an unknown number of nights of about 6 (at the most) each night.  I think I got one 7.5 hour night in there somewhere…heee….I go on these “runs” and sometimes they eventually stop or get a bit better…reaches a point where I just crash.  That could happen.

In a while I'll be heading off for a brainwave biofeedback appointment - I dig having electrodes stuck on my head and changing my brainwave patterns as required.  It's  a thing of swirly grooviness - I highly recommend it.

brain frying, more later,

Jane, I really resonated with what you posted on Thursday, it affected me deeply.

“It is amazing how so much of my limitation (perhaps true for all of us) is really a factor of how I am perceiving the world around me.”

I seem to have so many filters in place that keep me from truly appreciating the riches on offer to me in life and by life, and how well I would be sustained if I were only to participate more and give of myself more fully. My self-cherishing mind is like a parasite, with a deeply penetrating mycelium, that seems to feed off everything (including the nourrishment provided by life affirming practices), stunting growth in the process.

“I have been thinking a lot the hidden under currents….sort of the hidden, silent spiritual symphony that keeps old patterns repeating, and seems to have a self protective cloaking device to escape ever being addressed head on……the soulscape of ‘we’ space that can only ever be gleaned by practitioners who continually do their best to remain curious, and non-judgemental, and seek the deeper truth….”

I’m beginning to see that in my partial focus on self-development (partial because the main focus is really on myself) it’s the ‘we’ space that I’ve been neglecting – neglecting owning my part in its co-creation, neglecting consciously taking responsibility for its welfare.

On the surface I may have been appearing (to myself at least) to say yes to the idea “change yourself, change the world” but I’m beginnning to see that I’ve been oriented largely towards the upper quadrants, particularly UL, and paying lip service to what I’m now seeing as the vital need for active engagement in and cultivation of this ‘we’ space.

I’ve known of the underlying malaise for a long time really, but it’s exposing myself to the ideas of the evolving AQAL model that is broadening my mind. I’m still quite new to it all so I still feel a bit self-conscious using the terminology, but its my starting to ‘get’ tetra-enactment that  seems to  be making a real difference. Reports of the death of this thread are premature.

Lol, I think one of the really useful things about this kind of space is it lets us all become a bit more rounded (or tetra emergent if that's not a dirty word), different quadrants needing attention, different lines of development lagging behind because we all had different criteria for deciding what's important. And of course it's more comfortable to think the stuff we are good at matters.

Thanks,Liz, it's really good to be reminded of that, that we all have “different lines of development lagging behind”. It's so easy for me (and I guess everyone, really) to think “oh  this person is so intelligent / savvy” or “this person is so wise / deep” and in doing so view myself in a poor light.

Btw, which line of development is it that's affected if one believe-d/-s oneself to be responsible for ones mother being horribly hurt if not killed through giving birth (Caesarian), and so as a consequence not deserving of her love, and finding this 'not deserving of love' scenario being seemingly readily constellated in life? Any insights anyone?

That should be arrested development, anyone who believes that stuff should be locked up!
Seriously, misplaced guilt maybe, except that all guilt is probably misplaced something. Not feeling loved and needing to find a reason?
Some folk say “whatever you give your attention to grows”. If one believs oneself to be unloveable or unworthy, it'll get projected to other people.

And thinking someone has that kind of responsibility is a misplaced sense of power too, it would take a pretty powerful unborn baby to “cause” any of that.

Your joking aside, I was a little surprised by your reponse.

I do believe the groundbreaking work of  the likes of  William Emerson in pre- and peri-natal psychology or Ray Castellino in birth process work deserves to be 'included'. The idea of deep imprints being formed in a  baby's psyche in the prenatal and perinatal period, including 'life statements' such as not-deserving-love being associated with the scenario I gave, are accepted and given credence in this work.

I may have been lazy in that I didn't try to find a full list of developmental lines to muse over myself, but my question wasn't an abstract one. I was born Caearian, and although I don't have any 'direct' memory, visual or otherwise, of my birth, lots of things to do with it have come up in process work over the years, including resonating strongly with the scenario I depicted.

I don't think it's a case of “needing to find a reason” for not feeling loved, or any underlying sense of not deserving love, but it certainly can be extremely helpful to uncouple the different components of any such life-statement in order to expose it for what it is, a myth.

Thanks Lol,

Ok it's hands up time. This is the second time this has happened to me, there's something I need to learn here.

I asked Robert masters a question quite a long time ago now, I'll look it out, with his response. His book irritated me in a number of ways and his response was fairly robust too.
I always meant to come back and toy with it more, I remember Robert's response was a challenge to me about whether I thought a foetus couldn't feel pain. I thought it was so obvious I would never suggest such a thing I think I got even more irritated, because I wasn't saying that at all.
What you are saying here touches on the same area. I'll look out the Ram stuff and if you don't mind I'll include your comments-I think this deserves a thread.

WARNING******* When people start pointing to unresolved trauma passing through the birth canal as the reason for their adult difficulties, my bullshit detector goes off big time. That's twice now I've said something I thought was perfectly reasonable and got a reaction I didn't anticipate, both times on the same subject. I have nothing invested in being right, or proving myself right. i don't want an argument, just a chance to explore some of this. No doubt this will also lead to people suggesting souls float around out there and choose which mother's body (or which foetus) to inhabit, or come from a position of wisdom and choose the life they will take on because they know it'll teach them the lessons they need. That may make more than the bullshit detector go off and It's quite possible I'll throw up. Hopefully that will be metaphorically, but it'll probably land here!

I will try to be respectful of everyone's views, but I can feel already how challenging I'll find this.

Oh and LOL, I din't mean to be flippant, it just really didn't register that you might be serious.

I wonder what will happen at I-I, but I'm no longer all that attached to it in the old way that I was. I was interested and grateful to read about Paul's reflections. I have always wondered at the lopsidedness of hiring so many young, inexperienced people. Sure, they're flexible, damn smart and fast learners, but I wonder if maybe they were too flexible. They were/are overworked, underpaid and perhaps they just didn't have a firm enough grounding to integrate work and life in a healthy way.

Yakking (and praying in the integral closet)

I belong to an internet  sangha centered around my teacher, and we have a private yahoogroup.  It used to be full of discussions about various aspects of the teaching, with students providing their experiences, perspectives, etc. for us all to grow and learn together.  It morphed over the period of about a year to becoming a prayer list for all the down-and-outers.  Almost no discussion takes place there, which is fine because there are plenty of places to flext the ego-cogito muscles elsewhere (yes, lately it does appear that Keith is biased against conceptualizing…not biased against, but in heavily conceptualized territory like I-I I find it helpful to remind myself not to take these mental gymnastics so seriously…I digress).  It was a year in the making, and now for about a solid year it is almost nothing but a prayer list.

I used to cringe at all the prayer requests….except it feels really good to hold someone elses interests at heart and to offer good intentions, so I play along.   We all know that this is a rocky path, and it's nice to share in each other's strengths when we are feeling down.  Now, I'm not advocating turning this in to a prayer list, but just know that if someone is having a bad day, I'll be imagining them smiling in the sunshine anyway.

So, here's my favorite teaching on prayer, by the Persian Poet, Hafiz, with emphasis added to my favorite part:

“Then a priestess said, Speak to us of Prayer.

And he answered, saying:

You pray in your distress and in your need;
would that you might pray also in the fullness of
your joy and in your days of abundance.

For what is prayer but the expansion of yourself
into the living ether?

And if it is for your comfort to pour your
darkness into space, it is also for your delight to
pour forth the dawning of your heart.

And if you cannot but weep when your soul
summons you to prayer, she should spur you
again and yet again, though weeping, until you
shall come laughing.

When you pray you rise to meet in the air those
who are praying at that very hour, and whom
save in prayer you may not meet.

Therefore let your visit to that temple invisible
be for naught but ecstasy and sweet
communion.

For if you should enter the temple for no other
purpose than asking you shall not receive:

And if you should enter into it to humble
yourself you shall not be lifted:

Or even if you should enter into it to beg for the
good of others you shall not be heard.

It is enough that you enter the temple invisible.

I cannot teach you how to pray in words.

God listens not to your words save when He
Himself utters them through your lips.

And I cannot teach you the prayer of the seas
and the forests and the mountains.

But you who are born of the mountains and the
forests and the seas can find their prayer in your
heart,

And if you but listen in the stillness of the night
you shall hear them saying in silence,

'Our God, who art our winged self, it is thy will
in us that willeth.

It is thy desire in us that desireth.

It is thy urge in us that would turn our nights,
which are thine, into days which are thine also.

We cannot ask thee for aught, for thou knowest
our needs before they are born in us:

Thou art our need; and in giving us more of
thyself thou givest us all.'”

Today's nature drama involves a tiny bird that keeps attacking my kitchen window. It took me a while to identify it, as the picture in my guide doesn't do this fine little bird justice. It's a Ruby-crowned kinglet that appears to be defending its territory against a rival, if illusory, bird. There aren't any notes on its territorial behavior in my field guide, but I'm assuming that the fact that I can see the brilliant red crown in all its glory and it's so drab in the picture is because it's displaying its prowess for the reflection-bird.

I'd love to get a picture of this bird. I'll post it if I do.

Hm, I wonder… it is so unusual for a bird to behave the way you describe. Reminds me of a true story. A musician friend of mine has a strange history with birds from the wild. One time, a bunch of us were gathered in my living room at night when a small bird started hurling itself against the window pane until we began to fear for its life. My friend went outside, picked it up and carried it in. He held it in the palm of his hand, gently stroked its back, and remarked, “It came to me. For some reason, birds do that all the time. I think it wants to die.” Sure enough, the bird died in his hands within the hour, and we buried it in the garden that night.

Another time, three of us were sitting on his patio in the mountains near Santa Fe. We were talking about some deep down spiritual stuff, baring our souls, when suddenly, a white, albino falcon swooped down out of nowhere, touched my friend’s bald pate with its claws without scratching him, like an anointing of some kind, and flew off into the great blue sky. This guy didn’t bat an eyelash and continued our conversation, while my girlfriend and I sat there, speechless, wondering if this wasn’t some kind of New Age St. Francis thing we were witnessing here! But no. The man is definitely enlightened sometimes, but he’s also an asshole, just like the rest of us. The keyword being ‘also’.

It's said that Francis was rambunctious and rebellious as a youth, enjoyed drinking and carousing with his friends, and made fun of his father's pursuit of wealth as a cloth merchant. He participated in military expeditions and was about to join a crusade in 1205 or so when he had a vision that precipitated a spiritual crisis.

In the heat of his conversion, he had another mystical vision that directed him to rebuild a broken-down local church. He sold his horse and some cloth from his father's store in order to do so. His father demanded restitution and punishment. In an interview in front of the local bishop, Francis renounced his father and his inheritance, literally stripping naked so that he could give all of his father's garments back to him. Thus began his life as a beggar in Assisi. A few years later, he and several like-minded companions founded the Franciscan order.

As I try to figure out how to explain it, my “St. Francis bird moment” is feeling more and more like a true “you had to be there” sort of thing. But basically, in the middle of an outdoor performance (many years ago), and when it seemed like things were going well, you know some flow and inspiration going and all, everyone was into it, etc.-I had to make a “crowing” sound and when I did a seagull flying overhead answered me back or seemed to. Again, that sounds so dumb writing it out like that without the live context, but everyone just about literally gasped -including me-because it made the exact same sound that I did; it was kind of like communally impossible not to feel-and in a very deep and profound sort of spiritual way (especially as per the energy of that particular moment and leading up to it) that it was directly answering me back, responding to that moment we hmans were creating

Like I say, everyone had this “communication with the animals!” sort of feeling out of it. But it was more than just like a bird call sort of thing, there was something deeply spiritual about it and so thoughts of St. Francis and the legends of his nature mysticism naturally arose. (Not that I'm like St. Francis or something, just more like we all experienced perhaps the reality of what is purported to have have going on between St. Frank and the animals in his later years after his drinking and carousing … :-) )

There's a cool musical piece I heard about, by a Canadian composer (Schaeffer, I believe), which consciously works in communion with animals.  There's a lake in Canada where the wolves come to drink at a certain time every year, and the performance is staged (I think on a floating stage on the lake) to coincide with the coming of the wolves.  The music is designed to echo and to elicit responses from the wolves and sometimes other animals in the area.  I read about this years ago, so I may not have the details right, but it seems like it would be magical.

I love magical animal stories.  I once watched my mother lead a medicine wheel ceremony in Arizona, and as she was closing it with a prayer, arms upraised to the sky, three birds came and whirled closely all around her body before shooting up into the sky again.  One of those things you have to see to get the full impact…

I had a St. Francis of Assisi experience back in the  summer of 1971, can remember it as if it were yesterday. It was my second trip, one week after my first which was on Orange Sunshine. This time it was a capsule of Mescalin,  and I had such a wonderful time. My ony regret was that I didn't have  a second cap to take that day!

I spent most of the day in Holland Park near Notting Hill and had an incredible experience of feeling/being one with Nature, the trees, flowers, grass, the air, the sky ….. and the birds of course. I went to the cafe in the park and asked for some bread to feed the birds ….. as you do. Then went back to the bench I'd been sitting on and started breaking bits from a slice of Mother's Pride (sliced white bread). In no time at all I had sparrows landing on my arms and hopping down to my hands to takethe small pieces directly from between finger and thumb. This lasted for some time. Hmmmm.

Arthur and I went to Esalen this weekend and met the one and only mcenter, AKA Ryan!

Um, since we really, really, really didn't want to get out of the baths, we decided to forgo last night's sleep. So I'm a bit punchy. We set what we think may be a new Esalen record for staying in the mineral-hot-springs-fed baths: 6 hours. Then we got in my car and headed home.

What an experience. I took 65 or so pictures, which I'll be posting somewhere sometime very soon, but my mind isn't up to the task at the moment. Stunningly beautiful place, and it's always good to see MaryW. This time, we also met the Hubby.

More to follow. Must get daughter ready for school soon. Must also remember to breathe. Seriously, I might forget.

Six hours in the water! Was that just on Sunday? Because on Saturday evening the soak lasted for something like 2 or 3 hours … Thus all told you guys may have spent an equivalent of a work day in the water over the weekend.

Kirk and I had to leave earlier on Sunday – got home around 2 a.m., to sleep at about 4, woke up around 11 today, and now I'm pleasantly spacey, feeling like I'm still suspended in water but also moving through space at 75-80 mph - aftereffects of a post-bath 400-mile drive … Kirk is still in his p.j.'s.

It was a delight to spend time with Ryan, the dreadlocked and bespectacled philosopher-poet, and to meet Tricia, Ryan's gracious and hospitable mom. And as always, it's food for the soul to hang out with Liz and Arthur.  :-)

Avast, ye scurvy dogs.

That is to say…

Arrrrr!! I've become obsessed with being a pirate.

It all started with the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a reaction to the silliness of a certain school board trying to teach “creationism” in schools as a science. Arthur unwittingly set me on this course by telling me about them. They're into dressing like pirates, and, well…

That's about as far as this post is going to go with any integrally-related topic. Feel free to talk about evolution somewhere where, y'know, smart people post. But the part of my brain that thinks intellectual thoughts has been on holiday for, I dunno, about 7 months or so, since my chemistry class finished, along with my marriage. Since then, I've been developing my other, neglected, lines. I was far too smart for my own good, as evidenced by my ability to live in denial.

But no more! Now, I want to be a pirate. I want to wear sexy girl pirate clothes and talk like a pirate. I even want (uh, someday in the distant future) to be married in full pirate regalia. To that end, I've been perusing piracy-related sites, and I've come up with a few good ones. The best one is here, because it links to all the other ones. Be sure to go to the links page and check out the fun things like pirate costumes and such.

Here I am as a lusty pirate wench. Shiver me timbers, baby! (The face is mine; the rest is Photoshop, rather obviously.)

Somebody left a box at the island near the notecard stations.  I checked to see what it was and it was titled “skinner box” and the description said “Figured this place Needed one.”  I'm not quite sure what the guy meant (have I really misrepresented Integral that badly? lol).  I mean I mentioned Behaviourism as an example of right hand reductionism and everything … Probably some greenie romantic.  Anyway.

This board is rockin' …  but let's not completely forget about all the other worthy threads on the board….there's more to the integral world than Andrew Cohen.  For example, there's Leonard Cohen…

LEONARD COHEN LYRICS

"Hallelujah" [OK, this is a really cheezy video, but the song is great.]

Now I've heard there was a secret chord

That David played, and it pleased the Lord

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this

The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof

You saw her bathing on the roof

Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you

She tied you

To a kitchen chair

She broke your throne, and she cut your hair

And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain

I don't even know the name

But if I did, well really, what's it to you?

There's a blaze of light

In every word

It doesn't matter which you heard

The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much

I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch

I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you

And even though

It all went wrong

I'll stand before the Lord of Song

With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Priests to Purify Site After Bush Visit

By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA, Associated Press Writer

GUATEMALA CITY - Mayan priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate “bad spirits” after President Bush visits next week, an official with close ties to the group said Thursday.

“That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture,” Juan Tiney, the director of a Mayan nongovernmental organization with close ties to Mayan religious and political leaders, said Thursday.

Bush's seven-day tour of Latin America includes a stopover beginning late Sunday in Guatemala. On Monday morning he is scheduled to visit the archaeological site Iximche on the high western plateau in a region of the Central American country populated mostly by Mayans.

Tiney said the “spirit guides of the Mayan community” decided it would be necessary to cleanse the sacred site of “bad spirits” after Bush's visit so that their ancestors could rest in peace. He also said the rites _ which entail chanting and burning incense, herbs and candles _ would prepare the site for the third summit of Latin American Indians March 26-30.

Bush's trip has already has sparked protests elsewhere in Latin America, including protests and clashes with police in Brazil hours before his arrival. In Bogota, Colombia, which Bush will visit on Sunday, 200 masked students battled 300 riot police with rocks and small homemade explosives.

The tour is aimed at challenging a widespread perception that the United States has neglected the region and at combatting the rising influence of Venezuelan leftist President Hugo Chavez, who has called Bush “history's greatest killer” and “the devil.”

Iximche, 30 miles west of the capital of Guatemala City, was founded as the capital of the Kaqchiqueles kingdom before the Spanish conquest in 1524.

Fear not, our God of Restraint,

We will be playing pinochle all weekend.

BTW, Arthur nearly DIED of mirth when he read that, and I got to hear it on the road!

I meant “master of restraint” as in, “Tie me up, oh, my Master” not like in the boring way that no doubt occurred to you.

Bwahahaha!!!!

Michael, Mary, Pelle, Chris, Ramsses:

I had the most amazing trip today. I felt charmed the entire way. Tons of cops out there, probably ten times as many as any other time, and I seemed to have a sense of when to drive fast and not to. I was invincible. Drunk drivers and crazy people and morons, oh my.

None of them could touch me. I was in a magic bubble.

I made it to Vancouver in record time: less than the Google ideal of 14 hours!

I know this is magical thinking (don't tell Julian) but it felt like you guys cushioned my way.

No back pain at all, now that's supernatural.

Thanks again, anyone who helped me on my trip yesterday. I am so grateful for this life I have, in so many ways.

Not much sleep last night (we were not playing Pinochle, but we did have a few beers and collapse into exhausted sleep-get your minds out of the gutters!) So this morning I'm thanking God and Mother England for Earl Grey tea. Tiki will probably tell me it's some other country's invention, to which I say, “Thank God for English imperialism and all it's brought us.” God Save The Queen.

One of the reaasons I love driving to Vancouver (or anywhere long distance for that matter) is that it really affords time to adjust to the difference. When you fly somewhere, you rip your body from one point in space/time and plop it down in another. I've been thinking it takes your subtle bodies time to catch up, as it leaves one so disoriented. Driving lets me see the signs, one by one, see the change in the climate–first drops of rain hit my windsheild just as I read the sign “Welcome to Vancouver.” I kid you not. It lets me appreciate the real distance, and it gives me so much delicious time alone. I find I have insights I just don't get when my mind is working feverishly on managing my daily life.

Exactly!

When I drove from California to Kansas and back last fall, it occurred to me that solitary long distance driving can be a form of “active” contemplation …

A retreat-on-wheels.

(Riding the train across country used to seem contemplative to me too, back when the railroad tracks were in better shape. Now they're pretty frightening.)

Anyway, I much prefer driving / riding to flying, and  (weather permitting) will always choose the long road if I can spare the time.

Speaking of prayer intentions ….

I am posting this at 10:15 p.m. (USP) but assume it will be read in the morning by most or whoever   …

Tests came back late tonight, baby's lungs are mature, so it's a go for today, Wednesday, 3/21 (first day of spring!)- as in, Katie will be put into induced labor and baby will be born today (wed. 3/21, etc.)

Please, please, please keep her in your prayers and that all goes well and she is safe.

I thank you all, we thank you all, we love you all.

Peace and thanks again,

Your pal,

Tim

Ave Maria

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou among women
And Blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Catholics really do know how to pray, so I went to the source.

This is one I found particularly comforting when I was in Catholic school for a year. I wasn't Catholic then or now, but I do love this prayer and talk of the fruit of Mary's womb, and how personal it is.

Michael, Balder, Mary, Chris, Colin, Mashca, Liz, Pelle, Jane, Gina and everybody else who ever said a prayer or intention or gave a simple thought for baby JoHanna-Thank You!

And wow, you people are good!

Born at 10:32p.m. USP,

HEALTHY baby Girl,

Weighing in at a whopping 6 pounds 1 ounce!

Hungry and latched immediately to her mothers breast like …um … something with incredible sucking strength!

And looks just like her sister, Daddy (well, what can I say?) and her great, great uncle Bob.

(For those of you who don't know why this is special click here, 4th post down.)

Although it was a long and arduous labor, as soon as we got to the hospital I knew I could feel y'all love and strength, everything went perfect, and suspect y'all had something to do with it - and if ya wanna know what the Real Secret is -that's it, it's Love!

Thanks again so, so much. Pics will be forthcoming

Bless you and thank you all again!

Peace, Tim

Induced labor is no fun, for sure. Kudos to your wife. Tell her from me: she's a champion.
