How do you feel your connection with the earth?

Emerson said: “Every natural fact is an emanation, and that from which it emanates is an emanation also, and from every emanation is a new emanation.” The ooze, the source of a great river, is now a white chute tumbling over brown bellies of conglomerate rock. Wind throws sheets of water to another part of the mountainside; soft earth gives way under my feet, clouds spill upward and spit rain. Isn't everything redolent with loss, with momentary radiance, a coming to different ground? (Gretel Ehrlich)

To talk of the earth is to speak of an abstraction, a concept. Searching for connection is the same as grasping for one’s shadow, like living in the ivory tower of the head unawares of dirt between the toes. I try to pay attention. To look at what is right in front of me. To feel what I feel. Taste what I taste, touch what I touch, etc. Some people call this mindfulness. Perhaps bodyfulness is a better description. It is a farfetched notion to imagine connection with a living planet when the plants and creatures living near us go unnoticed, unrecognized. When we are estranged even from the subtleties of our own bodies, our very physicality.

Beautiful reply…

It's probalbly worth noting ways in which we don't feel connection or connected…. Be aware of those times, they need to be felt and need presence …. not acting out neccessarily, but just seen… felt…
