I enjoyed listening to the tal and commented it here..
Terry is pointing to the ultimate mystery, the the miracle and the vast unknown universe every relative existence is embedded in. Even beyond all cross traning. Nevertheless making good use of it.

Best,

Albert

Terry Patten was on an online radio interview with Craig Hamilton, as a part of *The Great Integral Awakening.* over the weekend. The talk entitled "Integral Life Practice - Bringing New Intelligence to the School of Life" is available from this link which requires a free registration. There are a number of other talks (14 in total) which might be of interest to ILP'ers although the emphasis of most is on the spirit module,

Please spread word of this project anywhere you think integralish entities might be interested in working on it.

I've also posted about it in the Multiplex here, and at Integral Life here and here (as a comment to Terry Patten's blog).

cheers,
Arthur

Over at The Integral Pod we got the ILP stub going - see this thread for details. A lot of key points were made about how to go about this, so I recommend reading through that entire thread - but here are a couple of key points raised by Grey [emphasis added]:

I should also point out that not too long ago there was a push by certain editors to aggregate anything and everything “integral” into just a few articles, so a number of the Wiki links in the stub redirect to other articles. I say this, too, because I suspect there's a good chance someone will try to redirect this article, as well. But we'll have to wait and see. We can possibly prevent that by fleshing the article out as quickly as we can, so that it stands on its own better.

Adding to an existing article is certainly easier than creating a new one. The main things to be careful of are maintaining a “neutral point of view” (NPOV) and avoiding ”original research”.

Grey also posted a useful guide to some of the essential style points - how to make something appear in italics or bold, for example.

So anyone who wants to get in on this action, have at it!

cheers,
Arthur

Since there's no board for general discussion, I'll post this here - on the grounds that this post concerns, "What is an Effective [way to promote] ILP?"

Here's a wack idea: does anybody with “Wiki-Whispering” abilities want to start a Wikipedia stub article on the topic of “Integral Life Practice,” which other people could then work on and expand?

With the recent publication of the excellent ”Integral Life Practice” book, it's a topical thang. I found a few glancing references to ILP in Wikipedia but no actual article on the topic.

I just registered as a Wiki editor - easy to do - and started to gather information on how to start a stub. It's a little more involved than I thought; I don't really have time to go through the learning curve on stub-creation right now, but I thought someone with a greater knowledge of these things might be interested in starting it off. Once a stub article is in place it looks like it would be easier for others to revise and expand the article.

Anyone interested in starting that ball rolling?

spiral out,
Arthur

Hi ebuddha (and of all ya buddhas outside there)

I think the Kit is a really good compilation.

some points

1. This is not directed at your post, but the cricism I am addressing is seen very often:
I think the I-I staff concentrated on single-person technics instead of group technics because as soon as you touch the " how to" of community gatherings, it gets political

2. Big Mind.

AT first I was unsure as well, but by now I understand.

Just do it, three to 4 times a week, by yourself, TALKING to YOURSELF (and NEVER stop to meditate besides that(always meditate more with integral inquiry than with the other technics, but I guess thats clear))

The main point, at least from my point on the journey, is to train to identify the taste of a voice in everyday life, to train to rapidly realize the ways these voices are interconnected, and to immediately feel their dissolution into the transcendence. These gets an automatic response, more and more.

I also invent new voices( I am very aggressive, and there is just no fitting voice, so I have the"one to hate it all away"

The kick that it gives you the first time is surely nice, but i think that is NOT the point of the story.

It is a virus growing in to your everyday life.

That brings us to the

2. Mind Module

How could you simply allow these changes/viruses to take stage in your life, without having the ability to know why you should?
YOud be a simple believer, but: without any context your meditation trips will have no higher intellectual ground to land on, and will disappear with time

That means you gotta grow intellectually. As most of us can imitate wilbers way of speaking by now, his writings will surely NOT do the job for us, as the mind is trained the most if it learns something new.

I read a lot and have a natural interest towards everything, also watching documentaries.
Doing mental training sometimes(IQ tests f.ex. try to do one (out of the bookstore/library) every 6 months, because new tests and exercises are developed regularly

3.SHadow

I keep a diary, thats the only regular practice for me, once a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.

But I am looking for opportunities to use it.
You should be attentive: If it doesnt really kick you(the result) you didnt do it well, that is not bad, but DO NOT BECOME USED THAT FEELING, of shallowness, automatism. It is your own feeling, but you can condition yourself to project it on the technic.

4. Conclusion

The Big Mind trains the sensibilty to these voices and the process of overcoming them,
making it(the process) faster and faster

The shadow-modules trains the capacitiy to spot and re-own the shadow, until it becomes a normal habit

Integral I., the basic meditation , trains concentration, awareness, stability, thus reinforcing every other technic(also when combined, using 10-20 min of Integr-Inq. as the begining of a meditation session, going on with compassionate Exchange, f. Ex)

Compass. exchange, or, the way I call it, the Christ Inversion, trains your openness, emotional fluidity, and a certain state of free flowing love, one that is not bound or merely a reaction on sth. happening outside

3 Faces: Nothing left to say. Genius. If yoiu are really a cosmic being, than you must have all these aspects. STill having difficulties with the second part, but hey.

3 Bodies:

I dont get your point. The exercises were not meant to be left like this, there is this structure, and you can fill it and expand it as much as want, so whats the problem?

The point is the structure.

As i see it by now, after 2 months of ILP, the program is meant to make you touch alle these tastes that your being-in the-world allows you to experience, and the more you do so, the more these dimensions begin to reinforce each other, and the more you get a taste of the ladder your climbing and the consciousness/witness/the field in which these dimensions appear.

And, all these things are viruses, creeping through and changing your life-perceptions, spotlighters, lighting up dimensions of your life, changing what you see, which changes your informing, which changes your action, and ultimately< changes you.

The process from not-understanding to understanding is a growth process itself, even though you still cant meditate

Try to do an ILP-Only weekend, start with abit of sport at the morning, for your circulation, eat sane, do integral Inqu for an hour, and practice the other meditations after that, and you will notice what I mean

Ive highlighted certain aspects of the technic, because i see shortcomings in understanding

Hope this gave syou sth to work with

I appreciate commentary

Cheers

Sebastian

I haven't seen mention of whether the 4 "recommended" modules from Integral Institute, actually WORK in one's life.

Take for example, Big Mind practice. Having bought the ILP Kit, watch Big Mind a few times, listened a few times, and gone to a one day Big Mind - it's actually hard to see how Big Mind can be facilitated, as an "individual" practice. As such, Big Mind practice, doesn't really lend itself to a 10 minute daily exercise, but seems effective in an interpersonal dynamic, only.

Physical exercise - the ILP Physical exercise, also seems a bit "weak tea". Too much of a hodgepodge, to count as effective.

Shadow Work - I have to say, this work DOES seem pretty effective - if it doesn't become "stuck" - which in my experience, it can seem to do. So here, a bit more strategy around getting stuck, regarding the MyILP Shadow practice, is needed.

Mind - not sure how this is defined - you have "Mind", in the sense that you exercise your mind - intellectual games & puzzles, and playing music are both ways to exercise the left and right hemispheres on an ongoing basis. But part of Mind practice here, is to couch the contextual understanding of Spirit, in a way that orients an opening to Awakening.

There is a way that the Mind aspect, as presented in MyILP, is too broad, for that focus.

So, lots of beginnings here, to start with, regarding:

a. Are the 4 "main" practices, Body, Mind, Spirit, Shadow?

What about other practices, such as Will, Heart, etc?

Is growing a more loving Heart, a subset of Spirit?

My own opinion is that Heart, with practices such as Loving-Kindness, seems to be it's OWN practice, at a level with Shadow, correct?

Since you need Will, to take the time to ENGAGE in practices (combat laziness, etc), again, seems as important a practice.

Other modules, for the Integal Life that seem of paramount importance:

a. Professional Life (melding skills, desires, productivity, into one's "Career". Might have a different name though)
b. My Community (what is the inquiry to take, to determine, how much time is right, for YOU, for ME, to spend time in service? To serve IN a community? If someone is built very introverted, probably less time in community, but if very extroverted, more time.) What is the right balance, based on the individual?

Any thoughts on the above?
