Morning Juice

Steph [no longer around] said Sep 27, 2008, 7:26 PM:

I don't have the luxury of owning a juicer at the moment….it's on my Christmas list, however i do have my blender in which i can create all sorts of nutrient rich, flavoursome concoctions…sometimes a bit wacky but hey they taste good to me.

I was up bright and breezy at 5.30 this morning and grabbed the only bits of fruit that were in my fridge to make my customary morning drink with:

1 x Cantaloupe
2 x Thai Bananas (they're small and sweeter)
1 x  Dollop of honey.

That's it!

Yummy!!

I rarely use our juicer. Why lose all the fiber in those glorious fruits and veggies?

The only advantage to juicing is that the nutrients are absorbed quicker (so it's more of a quick picker-upper), but a smoothie for breakfast offers you way more food value for long-term energy.

I agree….however it's good to have balance and be able to do both….being someone on the go a lot of the time liquid food works for me and i couldn't physically eat the amount of fruit/veg that i use in my drinks. If only i had a dehydrator, i'd use the fruit/veg pulp to make some tasty things so nothing would be wasted.

Here's to vibrant health! :-)

I love my breakfast smoothies, always a banana with another piece of fruit that's in season plus some nuts and seeds, flaxseed oil, bee pollen and soymilk.  I have a juicer but it takes quite awhile to put it together and then wash up, so I don't use it as much as I'd like.

I learned that if the body is hungry and you don't know what is missing, first try vitamin C and after that, you can tell what else is needed.  It may be a myth but it worked for me.  Any other of your favorite juice ideas?

Blend peeled whole oranges up in blender (added peaches are nice too) and drink or freeze in ice trays.

I avoid all heat treated (pasteurized) bottled orange juice……and any associated products made from it. I drink the juice from a lot of home juiced oranges. Shellac is mainly used on apples and oranges to give them a waxy shiny skin appearance, which is meant to make them more appeasing to the eye and attract shoppers to purchase them. I believe it may also help to stop the fruit going moldy whilst it is sitting on the shop shelf. Shellac coated fruit can be avoided if you buy directly from certified organic Farmers Markets or grow it yourself.

A lot of people peel oranges, so not to consume the Shellac, but some stricter vegans may be unhappy consuming Shellac coated oranges because of the animal (bug) used to make it.  I suppose it depends on how strict you are Vegan wise. Do drink orange juice… squeeze one today!!!
