Caring & Sharing Pets

~Kes said Apr 25, 2009, 4:07 PM:

We have expanded and added room for pets.  Tell us stories about your family pets.  Tell us about caring, feeding, play, funny stories, advice!

Please let your friends know there is now a place to have threads on animals and help make it fun with us.  i am going to move posts over here where we talked about having pets so feel free to pick anything and add to our posts.  One thing we are interested in is nutrition and another subject that came up is having vegetarian pets.  I am putting a blog from an animal healer on Gaia as well.  Thanks for your input.

Gabriela has wonderful blogs on Gaia with very good testimonials on her website.  This is one of the blogs she posted & made it okay for me to share with you.

This article is by J. Daryll Chester. He is a veterinary nutritionist who has developed some of the best nutrition formulas for dogs & cats that
I have ever seen.  I have always made all of my dog's food.  Organic
and fresh. Daryll's formuals make it possible for me to order this
fresh food & have it delivered for a fraction of what I was paying to do it myself.  You can feed you, your family & your animal companion quality foods even in these tough financial times.  It will also save you money in the long run on vet bills.  Read below & go to www.emoderndog.com for your feline and canine's good health!

I found this list of the 10 Most Common Dog Conditions and thought you might be interested.

The list comes from, Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI), the nation's oldest
and largest provider of pet health insurance company. They recently
analyzed the medical claims they received in 2008 to determine the top
10 most commonly claimed conditions for dogs. In fact, they found that
the top 10 conditions accounted for about 35 percent of all medical
claims received last year.

Here are the 10 Most Common Dog Claims:

1. Ear Infections
2. Skin Allergies
3. Pyoderma/ Hot Spots
4. Gastritis/Vomiting
5. Enteritis/Diarrhea
6. Urinary Tract Infections
7. Benign Skin Tumors
8. Eye Inflammation
9. Osteoarthritis
10. Hypothyroidism

All of the conditions on this list are potentially serious and they can all
be expensive. In 2008, the most expensive of the common canine
conditions was benign skin tumors, with an average submitted claim fee
of $497. Keep in in mind that allot of these claims are a chronic
conditions….

Pets that receive optimal care for any of this type of conditions end up
costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars. If a large expense like
this would be difficult for you to handle (as it would be for most of
us) there is something you can do. Finally! an interesting comment that
VPI made was that over a half of all the common conditions could be
related to or exacerbated by DIET, DIET changes, or DIETARY
indiscretions. These gastrointestinal problems typically result in
vomiting or diarrhea.

The most effective way to reduce common dietary conditions is to follow a
species specific diet plan. Whole food, raw meat, no chemicals and non
processed dog meals. (NO KIBBLE OR CANNED FOOD) When in doubt consult
an animal nutritionist or veterinarian nutritionist recommendations on
a quality pet diet plan tailored to your pet's dietary needs. Please
feel free to contact eModerndog at DogFood@emoderndog.com,
562.856.5651 or www.emoderndog.com. We have dietary plans to fit all
budgets, breeds and conditions. Don't wait till your pet companion is
sick or worse. The best preventative medicine is a good diet and
exercise. Plans start at $26 a month for small dogs (5-10 lbs.), $32
for medium (25 -45lbs) and $125 for big dogs (65 lbs. plus).

From our Intro Page,
“Anyway, any vegan community is great! You are invited to check out the vegan
posts on my blog. I hope my recent posts don't seem too negative. I try
to avoid negativity, but I don't always succeed completely. Just wish I
had more spiritual role-models in the vegan world because I am most
positive when I study positive things… I posted some awesome links,
though, that people should check out. :)” Namaste.

Louella mentioned animals so I was inspired to do a room. ~KES

I seriously am not reading into this, but it seems like you consider all animals to be “pets.” I wasn't thinking specifically of companion animals at all when I mentioned animals.
