Currently a new law is being rushed through the Irish parliament to create the crime of blasphemy as this is required by the constitution of the country. Given the low regard Irish politicians are currently held in they have decided to do anything to try to get votes and gone down this backward route rather than the more sensible one of holding a referendum to remove the requirement from the constitution. |

Not only is it going to happen (the alternative is to hold a referendum on removing the requirement from the constitution) they are using some method to push the bill through without discussion in the dail (Irish parliament). Not that my representatives seem bothered I have only received rote replies from their assistants in answer to my emails, this despite the fact that I vote and all my nonpracticing catholic (solely by birth) in-laws don't. |
