Words & Pictures

Tharlam [no longer around] said Jul 18, 12:30 PM:

Greetings.

I thought I would be so obnoxious as to instigate a thread for the display of my poetry, photograhy and other artworks here in the God Pod.

Love and Prayers,

T.G.

'Killing The Buddha'

…A photo often misunderstood and mistake for irreverant, 'Killing The Buddha' was inspired by the saying “if you should meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.”  Further explination of which is available to God Pod members if they wish!

If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him

    ~Zen proverb.

The historical Buddha taught that there is no such dualism as self and other.

…Furthermore, he taught that our own mind is Buddha; pure, clear and expansive, regardless of the ignorance which prevents our recogition of it.

We are all of one mind.

Every being is essentially 'Buddha'.

The proverb deals very much with what could be called deluded appearences:

We cannot meet the Buddha on the road because we are Buddha.

If we meet what we believe to be the Buddha, we ought to kill it, for it is an appearence based on pre-concived notions and concepts which we have created for ourselves.

'Tis to kill -destroy and remove- the concept of seperateness.

HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.

I do not have much of a knack for explaining things.

On the contrary, an excellent explanation.

There are so many aspects of Buddhism that fascinate me, and between your Three Turns pod, and two Gaia/FB friends ~C4Chaos and WH (their nicknames on Gaia) who post interesting articles all day on it, I am slowly beginning to get a better sense of what it's all about.

'Reflections of Guru Rinpoche'

…a photo of the Guru Rinpoche (Padamsambhava) statue at Kagyu Samye Ling, Scotland.  The statue stands in the middle of a pond.  The photograph, as the title suggests, is actually the reflection of the statue, inverted to the upright position.   Indeed, 'tis a common and beneficial practice to reflect on the qualities of Guru Rinpoche -the great being who took the Buddha Dharma to Tibet- and this was the reason, motivation and dedication behind the shot.

What must it have been like, I wonder, for him to arrive in Tibet, where no one had ever heard of the Buddha before? Great shot.
