Eric,

What a rare aetheric joyful gift of music you offer us indeed - thank you. The stories behind and around these musical creations and collaborations are as special as the musical pieces themselves. I resonated with the Planetary Celebration one and liked the cheerful ending of the Rivering flow a LOT. You really brought joy to me & i am sure to many more through the mission of the Awakened University, Gaia Community and All the Joyful sentient beings that it reaches through the waves of the heART...

Let All that Joy of being flow as you share with us more of your musical gifts,
D a r i n a :)

There are so many ways to commemorate & remember. Why not with charity & good deeds?
Here are some good ieas shared in the article below.

In 9/11 remembrance, a turning to good deeds

by Alexandra Marks

On Sept. 11, Jacob Sundberg of San Antonio has pledged to make eye contact and smile at everyone he meets. Kaitlin Ulrich will bring goody baskets to the police and fire departments in and around Philadelphia. And 100 volunteers from New York – 9/11 firefighters and family members among them – are going to Groesbeck, Texas, to rebuild a house destroyed by a tornado last December.

This is a minute sampling of the hundreds of thousands of people who have pledged to memorialize those killed on 9/11 by doing something good for others.

The heroic acts of all those killed trying to save others that September morning has spawned a growing grass-roots movement. The goal is to ensure that future generations remember not just the horror of the attacks, but also the extraordinary outpouring of humanity during the days, weeks, and months that followed.

"It was the worst possible day imaginable, and in some ways, a remarkable day, too, in the way in which people responded," says David Paine, cofounder of myGoodDeed.org. "We need to rekindle the way we came together in the spirit of 9/11: It would be almost as much a tragedy to lose that lesson."

Sept. 11 has inspired dozens of philanthropic efforts – from groups dedicated to building memorials to foundations designed to improve education in the Middle East. But myGoodDeed has a more universal goal: to turn 9/11 into a day dedicated to doing good – from small, simple things like Lisa Scheive's pledge to help stranded turtles cross the road in Pompano Beach, Fla., to lifesaving efforts, such as John Feal's decision in New York to donate one of his kidneys to help a seriously ill 9/11 worker.

The idea has been endorsed by members of Congress, and at myGoodDeed's urging, President Bush for the first time this year included a call for volunteering in his annual 9/11 proclamation.

After major disasters, Americans have historically tapped a deep reserve of compassion and reached out to others. But in the months and years that follow, those compassionate and civic urges tend to recede. Studies at Harvard's Saguaro Seminar on Civic Engagement in America found that in as few as five months after 9/11, most Americans had gone back to their daily lives and were not more engaged as they said they'd hoped to be. Part of the goal of turning 9/11 into a national day of service is to remind Americans of the inherent joy of giving and to hopefully spur volunteering and charitable acts throughout the year.

"I don't know of any research that's been done on one day of service, but studies have shown that people who do volunteering in high school are more likely to volunteer throughout their lives," says Thomas Sander, executive director of the Saguaro Seminar.

The idea of turning 9/11 into a day of service, charity, and good deeds came from the family and friends of one man: Glenn Winuk, a volunteer fireman and lawyer who worked a block and a half from the World Trade Center. After he helped evacuate his Broadway law offices, he grabbed a medic's bag and ran toward the smoke pouring from the South Tower. That's where his remains were found after the towers fell. Mr. Paine and Glenn's brother Jay had been friends for years. They decided that turning 9/11 into a day of service was best way to memorialize Glenn.

"It completely reflects the way my brother lived his life, and it also specifically reflects how he died," says Mr. Winuk, myGoodDeed.org cofounder. "He laid his life on the line for other people that day."

In 2002, Paine and Winuk sent e-mails to friends and family and suggested they do a good deed, such as donate a day's pay on 9/11. Then the idea evolved, and they founded myGoodDeed.org. In 2004, 100,000 visited their website and pledged to do a good deed on 9/11. This year, those pledging number more than 250,000.

"A lot of people don't know what to do on 9/11," says Paine. "This hits people in their heart and their soul. It connects with something that's fundamental."
Copyright © 2007 Yahoo! Inc. & The Christian Science Monitor.
A New Memorial for the Fourth of July

In the United States we have just celebrated our Independence Day, on the 4th of July. It is typical at this time to honor the men and women who make up our armed forces, as well as to remember those who helped to make us a Nation.

There are many people who have strong feelings about the war our country is currently involved in. I am one of them myself. This poem, however, is about a war that did need to be fought. I wrote this poem and painted the picture on Memorial Day in 2004, when at long last they dedicated the Memorial to those who served in World War II.

It has always seemed to me that there is someone else who ought to be honored. I’ve never seen a Memorial like this - maybe when I’m rich I’ll build one. My Mom and Daddy were only twenty four when Daddy was deployed to Panama. My sister was six months old and just beginning to crawl. My Grandmother kept my sister so that my mother could take the train from Utah to Texas with my Daddy and they spent two days together before he sailed for Panama.

The painting was done from an old, very cracked photograph, it was intact enough to show me what the pier looked like at Galveston the day my Daddy sailed.

Galveston Bay

When they knew he'd have to go away
My mother joined my father at Galveston Bay
For a few short days of sea and shore
Before he left her there and went to war

Not much more than a boy, he picked up a gun
And joined in doing what had to be done
That he would come home, he had no guarantee
But my father knew that freedom, never has been free

Today they raise a shrine to the men who served
The enduring recognition they always have deserved
Beside it I suggest another shrine should be created
To honor the courage of those who - waited

To remember those who lived with the fear of the unknown
The bravery of those who raised the children alone
Women who ran a country with hearts broken or yearning
Who built the planes and still kept the home fires burning

Who learned to get by on just the will to survive
Who sacrificed to keep the dream of freedom alive
Who mourned, and worked and waited, because it was her part
Who gave her country her not her blood, but her heart

And so I stand to honor on each Patrotic Day
The courageous woman who stood waiting
At Galveston Bay

© Edwina Peterson Cross - May 31, 2004
For My Mother - Zetta Benson Peterson

They are strangely beautiful, standing there in the cold bluegray water spinning their slim, yet massive blades. I was amazed that I did not find them intrusive or distracting at all as I looked out over the harbor, just fascinating and lovely, like slim white dancers spinning on the edge of the horizon. Denmark's wind generation provides about 12-15% of total electricity demand in the country, with many offshore windfarms. Denmark plans to increase wind energy's contribution to as much as half of its electrical supply. Copenhagen also burns every bit of their combustible garbage. The energy from this burning is used to heat water which is pumped through the streets of Copenhagen, where it is used as energy in homes and businesses. Between the wind power and the heated water, Copenhagen is reaching its goal of being energy independent. The estimate is that all of Denmark will be energy, and oil, independent by the year 2020. Gasoline costs $7.50 a gallon, but electricity for cars is very afordable, because of government incentives. If you were buying a new car in Denmark, what would you buy?

We must find a way to make our world better and safer for our children. One such way is to decrease our dependence on oil and gasoline. Not just foreign oil, but all oil. There are clean, safe, energy alternatives that are not being used to their potential. Investigate Wind Power, Solar Power and other alternative forms. Trade in that big gas guzzler and get a small hybrid. Reduce. Recycle. Reuse. Think Green. Live Green. It is the only way our planet will survive. Petition the government about everything from global warming to finding, encouraging, demanding forms of clean energy, renewable energy. Many cities in the US still do not even have a recycling program. Copenhagen is running their city on hot water from their recycled garbage. If Denmark can do it, so can we.

The following poem was written for Kindergarten aged students. It applies all the way through, however. Clean, renewable energy is possible. We must demand that it be the standard we live by.

WIND POWER

Though we cannot see the wind
The wind is full of power
A whole house can be run on
The power from just one tower!
The wind can be our helper
It’s an excellent solution
Because wind power is very clean
It causes no pollution
Wind power is now at work
In harbor and in field
The turbines are called ‘wind farms’
Because wind is what they yield!
Everyone can use the wind
Wind power is very do-able
The wind will always be there
Energy that’s renewable!

©Edwina Peterson Cross

This is the best web site I have found on wind power. It is from the Danish Wind Industry, who ought to know, since they manufacture most of the wind turbines for the world.
http://www.windpower.org/en/core.htm

DENMARK IS GREEN. Economically support a country that not only talks the talk about energy conservation, but walks the walk as well. Buy Havarti Cheese, Lego, Tuborg Beer, Carlsberg Beer, Aalborg Aquavit (snaps), Dansco Shoes (which are the best shoes in the world. I don't wear anything else.) http://buydanish.home.comcast.net/products.htm

Did anyone notice the FUN FACT on the first painting? The birds that are flying around with the kites? They are Kites!

Tagged with: Wind Power, March, Kites, Who Has Seen the Wind?, Robert Louis Stevenson, Christina Rossetti, Copenhagen, Denmark, Energy, Decrease Oil Dependence, Solar Power, Alternative Power, Hybrid Cars, Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Think Green, Live Green
