Yes, losing beloved animal friends is a very tough thing. I didn't really understand grief until I went thru some animal deaths.

Hello, my name is Krissy aka Wysteria Wind Ryder. I grew up on a dairy farm so I have always been around different animals, cows, horse, pigs, chickens, goats dogs and many cats. Obviously, I love animals. As of now, I only have one dog, Molly and a cat, Mittens. I lost my other cat, Chloe last fall (very sad time). I am a novice Wiccan and searching different sites for more information. The word Gaia was first introduced to me in a blog written by a man who had had an near death experience. In his blog he referred to a "god" that he was brought to, as Gaia. Gaia lived in a large white house with many libraries and many more books. That was few years ago, I wish I could find that blog today. Sorry for getting off the subject a bit. Looking forward to learning more on this site.

Hi everyone my name is Aimee.

Ever since I can remember I've been in love with animals. At the age of 7 or so I started bringing in the neighborhood animals to foster them back to health and then give them to the nearest shelter to find homes. Just recently my boyfriend found a couple of kittens at his work inside a wrecked Jetta (he works at Volkswagen ;)) and I decided at once I would take the only living one home and nurse him back to health. He was only a couple days old so we think the momma had them and something happened to her. "Jetta" is perfectly well and happy kitten now. When I got older I started volunteering at the same shelter after school and on weekends. Right now I'm trying to get my degree to become a veterinarian technician so one day I can own my own non-profit shelter that takes in neglected, abused, and "old" animals :)

If you are looking to rescue animals, I have something that might interest you. Here is a copy of an email my husband and I recieved from my mother. She loves animals, dogs in particular. She has devoted her life to rescuing greyhounds. She now has 3 of them and she recently volunteered to pick another one up to deliver it to another home. Here is a copy of her email. Hi animal lovers,
I thought I would just put in an FYI for another group I am a member of. The veterinary medicine group was specifically created (by Rachael, who is in this group too!) for people who want to be veterinarians. But she has also made it open to anyone who wants to share about animal health. I think it would be great if someone who knew a bit about holistic healing could write a little blurb about it for the Veterinary Medicine people. There isn't a lot of info out there for prospective practitioners, but obviously the need is there. And if there are any students out there interested in our little group, stop by and say "hi!"

Well, the president of Humane Society of the United States, Wayne Pacelle, has been campaigning for Prop 2 all over. There's info on the HSUS web site and his blog (www.hsus.org). Since I'm in California and have seen the tv ads, I can't say what the awareness is outside of my state.

Prop 2 is a crucial piece of legislation that, if passed in two weeks, will reduce a tremendous amount of suffering for tens of millions of animals. This will not only affect California; it is expected to have a snowball effect. One can only hope!!

I heard about this law they are trying to pass in California concerning the size of cages for veal calves, chickens, and sows (pigs that have babies). Anyone know any details? Have any opinions about such things? Planning to vote for it (or against it)?

I am typically not the political type, believing that everyone is capable and deserving of determining for themselves which candidate they choose to support. This link came to me today however that, as an animal lover, particularly hit home.. The Humane Society of the United States is, for the first time ever, endorsing a presidential candidate based solely upon past support and action for the animals. Hi I'm saraha better known to friends as Xantall. I've loved animals mainly wolves and foxes but I love big cats as well. I'm starting school in the spring for biology. I want to continue on to start an animal santuary someday to protect and teach others of them and hope I can help as many creatures as I can.

Thanks for the advice. We were making great progess on the one we had left be she escaped as well. We still see them and it looks like a neighborhood stray mom has adopted them and they play with her 2 kittens. We are trying to catch them, but we'll see. I will let you know if anything happens.

You have a lovely introduction. I have always had a fascination about horses but I grew up in the city and never got to ride one until my husband and I were on our honeymoon. It was a wonderful experience and I long to have land and own my own horse. My daughter loves white horses and says she wants to be a horse doctor when she grows up. Horses are magnificent animals.
