I wanted to draft something grand as an introduction to this POD, but upon reflection cannot improve on Janos’ original post on GW’s blog …

“We are only a half-human species. Modern humans (sapiens sapiens) are about 100,000 years old and our philosophical efforts to understand who we are and where, that started our struggle to become...(more)

Taoist Tea House

This pod rocks!!! Keith and Janos are fantastic. I relate to Taoism and I practice wu wei every day of my life. For me it means that I always take the easiest path. I choose not to think at all, always catching myself remembering 'tame the monkeys'. The Tao Teh Ching is the most amazing book I have read. There are only a few things that I can't fault in this world, one is the Ron Paul, two is the Tao Teh Ching and three is my daughter Amelia. I look forward to relating some Taoism to the other subjects in this pod.

Oh…even the Tao Teh Ching is faulted.  How could it not be, in even the tiniest seemingly insignificant way?  It would have to be in order to hold benefit and good -by way of contrast and balance- would it not?

I tried to type it but I couldn't. I was going to say that Ron, TTC and Amelia are of course faulted, but I just couldn't do it. I just don't believe it. They all come from a source much higher than we can comprehend. I think i'm learning something here… no one is faulty are they?

Lao Tzu says:” Surrender to life. Allow life to lead you, don't try to lead life. Don't try to manipulate and control life, let life manipulate and control you.Let life possess you. You simply surrender, you simply say 'I am not'. You give total power to life, and be with it.”

Flowing Tao….flowing imperfection and perfection…yin/yang..balance…

Depends on if the glass is half full or half empty?

The beauty of the Tao is that one need not intellectualize the material, one only need sit with it and know.

The glass is both half-full and half-empty.

Half filled with water.

Half filled with air.

To say one can find fault in most things except _____, a daughter or partner for instance, is to say that ______, or the partner or the daughter are off a different source than everything else ; of a different all.

TTC 48

Learning consists of daily accumulating;
The practice of Tao consists in daily diminishing.

Keep on diminishing and diminishing,
Until you reach the state of Non-Ado.
Non-Ado, and yet nothing is left undone.

To win the world, one must renounce all.
If one still has private ends to serve,
One will never be able to win the world.

Ahh yes, the Tao… I've been dying for a nice cup of green tea ; )

As the opening of the Tao Te Ching states : ˝ The Tao that can be Tao'd is not the true Tao.˝ , or ˝ The Tao that can be spoken is not the true Tao.˝

I find this to be one of the most profound truths that I have experienced. The limits of language and linear scanning become glaringly obvious when we attempt to describe reality in symbols and images (words, numbers, drawings, etc.)

If I attempted to describe my lunch meeting with my friends earlier today, I could tell you the name of the restaurant, what we ate and drank, the names of my friends and a summary their life histories, my opinion that the waitress was stunningly beautiful, the time of day, the outside temperature, the direction of the wind, the smell of grilled meat and vegetables carried in the afternoon breeze, the many topics of discussion, and many other variables, yet it would still be a pathetically limited description that would pale in comparison to the actual reality of being there. It is impossible to describe the infinite amount of interconnecting patterns of existence/non-existence and incalculable variables that are contained in a single moment of experience a.k.a. the current moment perpetually renewing itself. Basically one would have to describe the entire universe, since reality is experienced as a multi-dimentional continuum of everything in the entire universe happening all at once.

The idea that reality can be defined by symbols is an illusion. We can't eat the word ˝apple˝, we can't unlock our car door by imagining a key, we can't define our being by speaking our name, height, address, date of birth, etc. Symbols are shadows of reality; reality cannot be defined, measured, calculated, or encapsulated. Reality is the Way, the Way is the Tao, hence:

The reality that can be defined is not the truly reality.
