North American Union

Gemstar [no longer around] said Aug 5, 2007, 10:36 PM:

When I was invited to join this pod, I had some reservations, and our fearless leader, Keith, wrote back to me these words: “ I know you have ideas to help make Canada a better nation, either in economics, education, religion, or any of the other nine categories.  Chime right in if you feel inspired to do so … or not.  Completely up to you.”

So just the day previous to this, I had posted the following on my own blog, and I am copying it over straight, and will comment further at the end:

A friend forwarded this message to me today - and I believe it is important enough to everyone in North America, but especially Canadians, who are in danger of losing our country's sovereignty because of what is explained below, that I MUST share it here!

Canadians Completely Unaware of Looming North American Union Bush and Calderon to Visit Canada

In just over a month's time, on August 20, the most powerful president in the world will be arriving in Montebello, Quebec for a two-day conference. President George W. Bush will be meeting with Stephen Harper and their Mexican counterpart, Felipe Calderon. So far, the silence from the Canadian and American media has been deafening.

Talk to 90% of people on the street and they won't know about this upcoming conference, and if by a slim chance they do, they won't know the purpose of the meeting or why the leaders of Canada, United States and Mexico are meeting in the dog days of summer under what amounts to a veil of secrecy.

So, what's this upcoming conference all about, and why are the newspapers, radio and television keeping silent about it?

The purpose of the upcoming conference is to ratify the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, which was initiated by Bush, Martin and Fox in 2005 in Waco, Texas. Essentially, this so-called 'partnership' will result in what the politicians refer to as 'continental integration'-newspeak for a North American Union- and basically a harmonization of 100's of regulations, policies and laws.

In layman's terms, it means that once this 'partnership' has been ratified which is a fait accompli; we will be following in the footsteps of the European Union. It will mean that Canada will become part of the North American Union by 2010, and that our resources, agricultural, health and environment issues, to name a few, will be controlled not by Canada, but by the government of the North American Union.

A huge 'NAFTA' highway, one quarter of a mile wide, is already being built in Texas, where private land is being expropriated, and will eventually reach the Manitoba border.

Water will be the 'issue' of this century, as more than 25 states in the U.S. are currently in desperate need. Where do you think they will get the water they need?

The United States is already guaranteed 60% of our natural gas resources from NAFTA, which mean that even during emergencies when we need energy, we will have to import it, while we are forced to export gas to the U.S. This is just one example of how Canada is being shortchanged, and it's only going to get worse.

Why has there been absolutely NO public consultation on the biggest issue (North American Union) facing Canadians since Confederation? Why isn't Guy Lauzon, our local MP for Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry, holding town hall meetings, bringing in cabinet ministers and explaining how the emerging North American Union will affect our Canadian way of life? Ask the citizens of Canada for their feedback. Isn't that how democracy is supposed to work?

Folks, I suggest that Mr. Lauzon isn't even aware of the SPP or the North American Union, which explains why the Conservative government has denied all Canadians information to which they are entitled. If he does have something to say about it, then let him raise the issue in our riding.

Furthermore, the example of the North American Union illustrates that our government claims to be democratic, but in fact, does it act like one, or does it prefer to make the big decisions at committee level behind closed doors, while masking its real intentions?

The ratification of the SPP, and the emergence of the North American Union have been organized entirely by government committees and private enterprise. I refer readers to my website at  http://www.realitycheck.typepad.com/ for further information on the North American Union.

If our citizenry allows the North American Union to come into existence, then our way of life will change drastically, for the years to come. With privatization of our resources, increased foreign ownership, and a Canadian government with less and less authority, our children and grandchildren will be come 'North Americans' and our quality of life will drastically decline.  The founding fathers of Canada must be rolling over in their graves.

I want to make it real clear here that I don't have anything against the citizens of the United States - I have relatives there, and having been raised in Windsor, Ontario, on the border between our two countries, by osmosis, I'm probably about as “Americanized” as they come.

But I am also very proud of my country, and I feel that these political big shots no longer operate within anything closely resembling democracy - to them it is just a “fluff word” to appease the masses - the same masses they have ignored time and time again, especially when it has come to those people who have, since my late teen years, marched in protest of all the stupid wars and financial/economic hoodwinks these politicians have foisted on us.

So while this looks like an issue that ONLY concerns Canadians, I think it is very safe to say that the outcome of this could very well have nasty repercussions for U.S. citizens as well.  We are all being pushed down into what is now a legal form of slavery by these governments and the huge multi-national corporations that run them.  They only let us vote to make us think we've got a say in this.  If that were so - why in heck all the secrecy?  If Canadians are sovereign on their own soil, how can American soldiers come in and demand that they cannot use certain facilities within a 20 miles radius of this meeting?  And why has the press been so silent on this?  Well, that's really a no-brainer, when you come to think about it - the big corporations are the real money behind the newspapers, television, and radio media.  Thank God/Goddess for the internet!!!

So please copy and paste the note above, and anything else you may want to of my comments, and forward them on to everyone on your mailing lists in Canada, the U.S.A. and Mexico.  Don't delay - we need to stand up now and protest these meetings - or we may never have the opportunity to do so again!

One person commented on this, and I think her comment is extremely important, so I'm also copying it over here:

Considering, that I am from Germany, and witnessed what the development of the European Union has done for that country, I completely agree, to be against  this Union.
Such a Union would most likely have a large negative impact on the individual citizen of Canada, and as well as the US in a more profound way, then we can now imagine, which is preceisely, why this is kept in secret, not to alarm the people, and give them a chance to research what they are getting into, and make this issue an open discussion.
The day, that in Germany the currency changed to Euro, is a day, that I will never forget.  I awoke to the doubleing of most prices overnight! Shoes, clothes, furniture doubled in price, while the income of Germans did not.  Is that what Canadians have to look forward to?
I hope, the veil of secrecy in this issue will be lifted soon, and even if I am currently living in the US, I would like to be asked first, if I want to change the idendity of the country, I chose to live in.

Thank you for posting this.

Peace and Love

Claudia

There isn't much more I can say about it, than to hope that out there somewhere, or perhaps even here, in this forum, someone will come up with some kind of an idea to stop this from happening.  For the sake of all North American's, this juggernaut of a plan needs to be stopped dead in its tracks.

Canadians alone cannot stop this, because we may be “strong and free”, but we still have idiots governing us.  While Harper claims he won't play footsie in bed with G.W. Bush, he's done nothing but lie since his minority government took power, so I am very hard pressed to believe the man. “Steve” as G.W. calls him, as far as I'm concerned, wouldn't know what an honest politician was, if one jumped up and bit him in the crotch!  He certainly wouldn't find one looking in the mirror at himself.

The opposition leaders are aware of this also, but of them, only the NDP leader, Jack Layton, has taken any kind of public stand on this.  Stephane Dion, the Liberal leader, is about as fectless as they come - he has yet to see an election, but his predecessor, former Prime Minister Paul Martin, played the same tune - “I won't be kicked around by Washington”, but he still sucked up to Bush, kicking good members out of his party and caucus because they made some rather disparaging remarks about the Texan.  One of those turfed was from the riding in which I currently reside.  So it appears that NO dissension will be tolerated.  They have their marching orders.

As recent as a few weeks ago, an elected Minister in Harper's current Conservative government was turfed out of the party for speaking out vehemently about these meetings;  this happened shortly after the original linked article, above, was published.  These three “amigos” DON'T want us fouling up their plans!

This is Bush's last chance to make up to all his corporate cronies for being such a screw-up on the world theatre, so he and they certainly don't want the ordinary people of any of these countries to get in their faces, so secrecy is paramount. So, in line with the theme of this forum, as change-agents, attempting to create radical change for the better, I invite each and every one of you to copy the main post and the comments of this (regardless of what country you live in), and forward it to as many people as you can.  August 20th is approaching faster than a run-away freight train.  We need to rally massively across the US and Canada on that day, and send these crooked creeps the message that WE WILL NOT BE ENSLAVED by them, their multi-national corporate bosses, or anyone else.

OK you can relax… or maybe not, what do I know about what you believe. However, everything I can find out is that this has been hugely inflated in the blogosphere. First of all nothing about it can become law in either the US or Canada in secret, is this not so? NAFTA was bad enough and I seriously doubt NAFTA could get passed today, given what the results have been. Canadians would certainly not agree to the compelled export of energy resources to the US considering that Canada may soon need much of its oil & gas production for internal consumption. I don't believe citizens of the US feel that NAFTA has benefited them either, particularly if they had a manufacturing job. So something of a super-NAFTA will not fly IMHO.

A while ago I looked at the DOT website and it appears that much of the dreaded Canada to Mexico highway corridor consists of renaming already existing sections of the Interstate system, not new construction. I have heard that the highway in Texas is running into stiff resistance from various interests. I haven't paid attention to this for some time, but it seems to have a life of its own in the blogosphere, like many other issues, regardless of substance.

There are all kinds of business compacts for trade, etc., but treaties like one that would, in essence, do away with national sovereignty ain't gonna happen in secrecy, or in a short time frame.

Breathe… just breathe.

“First of all nothing about it can become law in either the US or Canada in secret, is this not so?”

There is an awful lot that goes on in the U.S., Canada and Mexico that doesn't seem to need any laws passed to be enforced, or made to happen.  Read the article just below your post (or this one) with regard to what moves the U.S. alone have been doing over the last 6 years.

“NAFTA was bad enough and I seriously doubt NAFTA could get passed today, given what the results have been. Canadians would certainly not agree to the compelled export of energy resources to the US considering that Canada may soon need much of its oil & gas production for internal consumption.”

Well, actually, Canadians are forced to buy off-shore now when the U.S. cries out that it doesn't have enough reserved for its growing consumption of these commodities.  While the U.S. pays approximately $3.00 Canadian for a gallon of gas, we are paying (in most places in Canada today) about $1.10 per litre (about one quarter of a gallon).  Doing the math, we are paying about $4.40 Canadian for the same gallon of gas for which you pay $3.00.  That's because most of the time we're needing to import our supplies, and the difference in the value of the dollar.

Speaking of the Canadian dollar, since it is fast approaching being on par with the US dollar, the current Free Trade agreements are suffering terribly on the south side of the border between our countries.  A really good way to stop that bleeding from happening is to create the kind of financial agreement that the North American Union, and a single currency, would create, while at the same time, as Claudia suggested in her comment on my first (blog) post, Canadians would still end up paying more for even home-grown goods, while wages continue to plummet as more and more Canadian companies are bought out, at bargain basement prices, by US conglomerates.  That's the economic crime in this whole NAU scenario.  Those are things that are happening NOW!!!

Also consider that within the last month, our Prime Minister Harper made a two week foray into South America and some of the Latin American countries, as well as Haiti, looking to “expand” trade deals similar to the NAFTA deal.  Everyday voters of this country have NOTHING to say about these deals being made.  NADA!!!  Sure, if and when we manage to wrangle another election out of the government, we could throw his (Harper's) sorry behind out, but the next one coming in is just as complicit with this as the one we'd be turfing out.  Unfortunately, there isn't near enough support in this country for the New Democratic Party, and we have the added pleasure of about a third of the Federal seats currently being held by a party that actually WANTS to rip Canada apart, the Parti Quebecois.

Unfortunately, too, that 9/11 has already made inroads into destroying Canada's national sovereignty, because of our mutual borders, and the demands that have already been made on us by the U.S. regarding who and how we can now visit our relatives or go to shop in the States, much less try to take a vacation there.  For all my life (nearly six decades) I've been able to get across the border with my Canadian Citizenship card, and now I am required to fork over $85.00 for a Passport that will only do me for the next five years.  Since I was born here, other than the money, time waiting for it to be processed (about 6 weeks at this time) and perhaps a background check or two because I'm fairly vocal about things (even before this), I shouldn't have too much problem getting one issued, that would satisfy the US government.  People who have immigrated to Canada who simply want to travel to the US (and require a passport to do so) tend to have a much hard time with more delays.

On the issue of sovereignty, any time a foreign government can send troops (or their police) into your country and order YOU around, I think it shows just how shaky that sovereignty has become.  When the US Embassador to Canada can demand that certain duly elected officials be removed from office (or threatened so much that they leave rather unvoluntarily), as in the case of one of our local Members of Parliament a few years ago, for remarks she made about Mr. Bush, then that, too, shows that our freedom of speech on this side of the border is certainly being infringed upon by the US government

Still on the issue of Canadian sovereignty, it is well known that there have been quite a few different scenario plans on how the US would and could invade Canada if they felt we were a threat to them, dating back to before WWII, and as recent (coming to light around 9/11) as the late 1990's.

“ain't gonna happen in secrecy, or in a short time frame.”

Whether or not it will be done in secret or in a short time frame is moot.  It is happening NOW!  It is the support of the perception that people like the person who wrote the original article, or that people like myself who also have other means (my channeling, for instance) of knowing what is happening out there, and who raise the red flags, are just so many windbags, that allows these kinds of things to happen in subterfuge of plain sight, and virtually overnight.  I call it apathy, and short-sightedness to think just because the ordinary person isn't seeing this happen, that it's not.  IT IS!!!

No, I don't think just taking a deep breath is going to help.

For another view, a little off the subject of the NA Union, I found this article today - “Fascist America in 10 Easy Steps” by Naomi Wolf.  There is a lot going on in secret that is undermining United States democracy.  The article enumerates these 10 areas:

Invoking a terrifying internal and external enemy…

Create a gulag…

Develop a thug caste…

Set up an internal surveillance system…

Harass citizens' groups…

Engage in arbitray detention and release…

Target key individuals…

Control the press…

Dissent equals treason…

Suspend the rule of law…

For the entire article go here.

Okay … You've highlighted an issue … Now the work begins.

Remember the purpose for the pod … to be the incubator and catalyst for change.  We're not really here to point fingers and complain, although we do have to know what we're dealing with.

How should we organize ourselves to prevent this?  What next?  This is what the pod is for … to come up with solutions and direction.

Wow!!! Thanks for posting that list…  I clicked on the link and read the whole article, and I hope everyone reading the thread will do the same - enough to make every hair on your chin run and hide!!

But, I also agree with Keith, we've got to come up with some solutions.  My personal part of this is to email this to everyone I know who can send it to someone else (or a bunch of someones).  My original post to my blog, plus what I've written here has also been posted on a “Protesting” blog - so those who are into protesting will see it.  I have also sent it out to several people on my personal email list, and tomorrow it will go out to my Ezine subscribers, and I will post it on at least another two large forums.  Virally, just from my efforts alone (and there were over a hundred people on the list my friend had included me on, so do the math there), I'd say at least a a million people should have received it in some way by the end of this week.

It's just hoping that enough people will find something other than throwing up their hands and saying 'Well, what am I supposed to do?”  I do believe that having this knowledge spread so quickly across the continent, is in large part going to raise a few politicians eye-brows, and maybe enough of them will come to their senses to realize they cannot pull this “fast-one” on us just as easily as they thought they could

Physically going to the place of the meeting to protest would appear to be very dangerous.  I'm not sure if letter writing would help either, as the people we'd be writing the letters to are the same people that are doing this to us.  Anyone care to comment on that, or to come up with some ideas.

To me, it's like trying to fight an invisible ghost - you know it's there, because you can feel its presence, but since you cannot really see it, or get through to it, because it's in another dimension, you're continually getting blind-sided by it.  The only difference in the analogy is that most ghosts don't realize what they are doing - they're just stuck, BUT these governments know exactly what they are doing, but they still want to act like ghosts.  Oh where are you Ghostbusters, when we need you so badly right now?

I don't have the solution(s) - perhaps someone out there does - and we'd sure like to hear from you.  What can you do?  What are you doing now to help stop this?

Blessings,

Gem
