Belief and knowledge

Tuan posted the question “Is Science a cult?” on the sciences board. After some discussion it became evident that the question is best explored on this board or/and in Philosophy.

This subject belongs to the theory of knowledge, epistemology. Serious thinking will be aided by investigating the work of one of the great, if not the greatest, modern philosophers of science, Karl Popper (see among other works his Conjectures And Refutations).
