The emotions we have are just a response to a learned experience. Other who witness the birth could just a well be appalled or even get nauseated. The openness to the experience is all that needs to be present.
After the delivery of our last child, the 20 something hours of labor, my wife in a amazing feat of love, power, and tenacity, gave birth. I immediately broke down an cried. Oh not in sadness but in the miracle of the transformation of the female body and the new life now in our caring hands and a relief of the stress from the experience.
The hormones present in both the father and mother are largely responsible for the response. In the Bradly Method the whole process in to teach the father that he has an attachment to the child, even though he is not “carrying” the fetus.
Every father should attend the birth of their children's, to truly appreciate the value of life.
