KB101: Clarify OUR Intentions

~C4Chaos said Mar 14, 2006, 1:12 AM:

This thread will be an open space for all of us to clarify our intentions. Let this thread serve are our blogging affirmations.

Allow me to start the ball rolling… below is what I’ve written on my very first blog post. I think it still my guiding principle as of this writing…

…so here i am blogging my way into the binary dimension–this time, in hyperdrive, with the same passion and compassion.

the past and the future are amorphous, the present is an illusion, to “awaken” is the goal, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun in the process.

this blog site is all about that… awakening while having fun.

So what’s your rabbit hole all about?

In attempting to clarify my intentions for blogging I've been distracted by some unanswered questions.

Prompted by David Jon's post in Big Camp Falcon and my own thoughts of late, I've been looking at what I'm doing in terms of blogging.

I only began to play with blogging about six months ago, and at the time just dove in thinking it would be a good adjunct to my newsletter. Here at Zaadz I feel like I'm all over the place and looking for a way to get centered and organized around it. In short, I don't feel like I know what I'm doing.

These are the questions I'm asking. I'm interested in what those of you who are more blog savvy have found to be true for you.

Why blog?

In a sea of millions of blogs and websites, what makes a blog compelling and valuable?

Do I dedicate my blog to a theme or just blog with reckless abandon about whatever comes to mind?

Thanks!

Bright Sunday blessings,
Jodi

Great questions!  I don't know that I'd consider myself more blog savvy (I've only been doing it since December), but I've come up with some answers to those questions, and I know ~C will be able to expound on them and add a whole lot more!

Taken from my How to Bodhi-Blog thread:

So, why would I want to Bodhi-Blog?

Well, if all that talk about snazzing up a piece of hyperspace didn’t turn you on, consider this:  You want to change the world, right?  Well, the blogosphere is one of the spaces where you have the potential to spread your fluffy love to billions of people!  When I first started blogging, I thought maybe two or three (if I was lucky, four) people would be checking out my blog once or twice a month.  Then the wizards added a view counter, and I was able to see that on some of my blogs, I had over 200 views!  This number is only going to get bigger as we continue to add more people to our site.  Imagine the love, compassion, and wisdom that can be spread if thousands of people are reading your daily insights!  But it’s even bigger than that!  On blogs, people can leave feedback.  And let me tell you, that feedback that I have received has already changed my life!  These little surprises of reciprocity have made my Bodhi-Blogging experience more fun than I had bargained for.  I tell you what… if you don’t absolutely love the blogging experience, I will personally refund 110% of the price of your free subscription.  Deal?  So what are you waiting for?!  It’s time to get your blog on!

So what makes it compelling and valuable?

YOU do!  There's this aspect of blogging that correlates with life.  Sometimes I have a thought that I think is great, but there's this voice that says, “No one is going to give one hoot about your thoughts.  Just keep it to yourself.”  And so a decision must be made to share or not to share.  The times when I've shared, I've been more than pleasantly surprised by its effects.  ~C4Chaos talks about blogging as spiritual practice and blogging flow.  I agree with his theory.  And there's just something that feels awesome and oh-so-right about being a part of this new emergent… shaping it, contributing to it, creating it.  I say follow your bliss with reckless abandon!!  Blog as Spirit moves you.  Then blog about the consequences.  And if it just doesn't do it for you, consider cashing in on my money-back guarantee!  :-)

Thanks for your prompt reply Matthew. And thanks David Jon for the inspiration earlier, today.

I took a deep breath and just went for it on my Zaadz blog, here: Rainbow Dancing Heart

Happy Kosmic Blogging!

Namaste,

wow. great questions. but before i give my answers to these, let me say that the answers to these questions vary from person to person. it really boils down to our own preferences, biases, and understanding of this hyper-evolving medium. having said that, here are my biased answers:

why blog? my answer to this really evolved overtime. but for now my answer is: because i simply HAVE TO. something like Maslow's Meta Motivation – “action stemming from fullness.”

my feeling right now is, if i don't capture and give expressions to the thoughts that pass by this blogger-body-mind, i would get constipated. serious.

what makes compelling valuable? that's easy: authenticity and (targeted)serendipity.

theme? i say wreckless abandon with chaos, creativity, compassion, and care. if you keep those in mind and heart, you can never go wrong :)

thanks for asking these questions. just by answering these i've clarified my own intentions as well.
