Books Suck! Blogs Rule!

re-posted from: ~C4Chaos Says Books Suck!

Just kidding again. It's only half-meant. I actually have a list of Books That Don't Suck (yep, that's a plug, hence the bold and the italics). But I don't have any lofty plans of writing a book, because blogging kicks more seeds (disclaimer: until we have digital readers that can hyperlink to the Web that is.).

Anyway, here's another nugget of wisdom regarding books and blogs, via The real threat of blogging (note: i added the hyperlink to the quote) –

….Publishers are interested in printing books and articles they can sell, nothing more, nothing less. When publishers evaluate a book proposal, they don't ask if the work is true or original or insightful or well-written. First and foremost, they ask themselves if they can sell it. If they don't think they can, they pass. If they believe there is a market and that they can effectively market the work, they buy it….Blogs are threatening to a certain type of writer not because they allow mediocre writing to flourish — the commercial market already does that. They are threatening because they unequivocally demonstrate that commercial publishing does not necessarily represent the best writing that is available.

Like I said, Kosmic Blogging Goddess(Rebecca) rocks! Mwah!

Dude…. good thing you said “Just kidding”….. you and me… boxing gloves would be needed!!!

BOOKS!  I love books!

Don't get me wrong… I love my blog too…. but…. I can hold my book, dog-ear the pages, scribble notes and highlight them…. yeah, I can read a blog like a book…. but it's still not the same… they each have their own great qualities…  each serve their purpose…..

But I still LOVE books…. so…. careful with your words…. or we start pricing boxing gloves.

Paper maybe not be sustainable, but whatever these guys used seems to be.

I have to agree with Kelly.  I love books.  Books, books!  Maybe we can have it both ways, though, like C4 (or is chaos the better nickname?) implies.  Blogging will show people that publishers are publishing crap.  They'll be pushed to select material for content and not (old-style) saleability – it'll still be saleability; however, the market will demand quality at thsi point.

Hm.

1- I tend to think this is implausible
2- Is this good for me or bad?  Is my novel more likely to get published in the new system or the old?  I'd better hurry up and finish it so I can try it out in both.

yep. you better hurry up because The Law of Accelerating Returns will not wait for you. but don't worry, either way, it will carry YOU (US) on its wings.

P.S.
i love books too.
