Introduce Yourself

~C4Chaos said Mar 14, 2006, 12:58 AM:

Let me start the ball rolling…

my online monicker is coolmel. but i don’t like to be called coolmel in realspace.

my colophon is this: the man, the mortal, the sex-object, the hero… blogging with passion and compassion… one (hyper)link at a time…

if you want to know my online persona check out my personal blog: ww.coolmel.com

if you want to get to know my interiors read my Existential Memoirs.

here’s my mugshot…

mugshot in bed

but you already know that.

so it’s your turn to tell us about yourself.

Diederick said Mar 14, 2006, 2:55 AM:

So… here I am. Took me a whole to get to know you a little better, by means of your existential memoirs. I’m always looking for context, for a story, a little history, a vision of the whole. Sharing this kind of stuff allows me to ‘feel your I-space’, let’s say. So I guess it’s time to return the favour and lay the foundations on which the ‘we-space’ can be woven.

For a short intro, check out my blog here at Zaadz. As you’ll read there, I’m from the Netherlands and am currently finishing my international business studies. Right now, I’m living in Hamburg, Germany for five months. I’m doing an internship with a Japanese optical company (camera’s, endoscopes, etc.), where I’m evaluating a European reorganization strategy from the Integral perspective (they’re working with this here at European headquarters).

In the evenings, I’m writing my graduate thesis, tentatively titled “Creativity and Constraint: a Process-based Perspective on the Duality of Action and Structure”, which is really a sociological topic much more than it is a business one. But who cares. I don’t, and thank God neither does my thesis coordinator…. so far.

In addition to my thesis and my internship, there’s a third component to my life as is it right now: practice. I simply don’t know anyone here in Hamburg, I don’t have internet access in my apartment and there’s not a lot to do in the evenings and weekends except work on my thesis, read, stare at the walls and meditate. This is very different from the student’s life I used to live until recently, which was all about getting up late, bullying myself into doing the necessary, working on all kinds of fun projects (extra-curricular, of course) and spending time with friends and girlfriend. None of that now.

Still, I’m enjoying my time here, because the circumstances are such, that I cannot not grow, practice, learn, live. And therefore I feel very integrated and grateful. And blogging may be one of the ways in which I can share and express. That’s why I’m here really, to learn from the master and design this aspect of my own practice as consciously as possible ;-)

Actually…. I am quite convinced that coolmel doesn’t live within the same realm of physical laws that the rest of us do…. how does he get all that blogging, researching, linking, etc. done in 24 hours?  I think he exists in a split dimension of some sort… he has 36 hours in his day!!!  Or he’s discovered the time-travel ability and has not shared it with us!!!

Okay…. well…. that’s a bit about me…. and a bit about how I feel about coolmel….

Um, OK, I figure I can elbow my way in here if I just hit the reply button…

Another would-be blogger who doesn't have CoolMel's dab hand with the time distortion thingie. If i drink that much coffee I just don't sleep, and then I'm not nice to know and blog becomes rant… and I'm so self-censoring you never get to see me with my nasty pointed teeth out (well, my family does… so if you want to know about that bit you just ask inusus and he'll tell you that you really don't want to know…)

I'd stick in a pic, but I haven't worked out how to do that in this little “post entry” space, so you'll have to do without. I just wanted to come in and play before bed-time! It's quicker that posting an entry in my own blog!

Sweet dreams!

Hi! I'm Jodi and I am a relatively new blogger, with just a few months of inconsistent to spotty blogging experience the past few months.

I work as an intuitive consultant and astrologer and for the past year led Creative Writers Network on Ryze. I have dreamt of becoming a professional published author for decades now and creating and leading the network allowed me to really immerse myself in the world of writing on a daily basis. I've written daily Morning Pages for several years (one of my spiritual practices) and last year participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and successfullly wrote over 50,0000 words of the novel that had been niggling at me to be written for years.

I am awed by Coolmel and his amazing mind and expertise with blogging and am thirlled to be here. I hope to learn and turn my love of spontaneous writing into outstanding blog entries.

I recently launched my new pod Creative Inspiration a place to share images and ideas of beauty and that which inspires. You are all most welcome if you'd like to join.

Very wordy, tonight… I am looking forward to inspired interactions in this welcoming bloggers haven.

Warmly,
Jodi

My current passion is a project called Integral Living, which is an online tool to help people track their practices and goals.  The current version is very basic, but functional as a practice-tracking tool.  Some day it will be a full online community where people can form practice groups, be accountability buddies, and track their growth.  I've laid out some ideas in another post.

I'm looking forward to participating here and learning how to be a better KosmicBlogger from the master.  Plus just meeting new folks is fun!

Hello coolmel, Hello All,

Nice to be here, and an honor for me to introduce myself in such a great Pot.
I come form the Netherlands. And started blogging first of January 2006, so I was a little late, ok…

As you can See Ray-Ban is one of my sponsors and so is Shakti Gawain. I us a little book of hers to gain consciousness and I write about my reflections on a daily bases at my blog over here at Zaadz. First I did it as a journal, almost no one even looked at it. After a few weeks a few people came there and read and comment, really cool. Still I try to keep on writing for myself I want to be more CONSCIOUS and blogging really helps. Besides Zaadz I have a consultancy company, and I work at a Indy record company,

Looking forward to get to know you all better!

Be well,

Hello!

I've been trying to make sense of myself and the world through worlds since I was young (Dear Diary….) and knew I wanted to be a writer early on.  I got my degree in Journalism from the Univ. of Kansas, but never really used it - the whole reporter thing just didn't quite get it.

I prefer Creative non-fiction, and have done a little freelance work.  My deepest, darkest dream is to write books about what I love, publish them, share them with others, and bring a smile to someone's face.  So, I mostly write for myself right now, and work as a full-time mom and a part-time psychic consultant.  (I truly see better with my eyes closed!)

I'm new to blogging, and find it gratifying.  I've come to realize that getting the words out is just half of the equation.  It is how they touch someone else that makes the process complete.  Putting myself out there in blogging is healing in many ways.  It is satisfying to see my words “published” in a sense.  It enlivens me to have a form in which to fill with words.   I write from my heart and love to make connections - I'm not sure at this point what makes a “good” blog, but I'm willing to get in there and get messy!

Blessings,  Julia

well, if you blog long enough, it can eventually evolve into a blook. it's all up to you.

“So, I mostly write for myself right now, and work as a full-time mom and a part-time psychic consultant.  (I truly see better with my eyes closed!)”

full-time moms are cool. being a psychic is hip (what's my aura?). but can you blog with your eyes closed? we'll see…

yes, i definitely agree. it also healed me. what's a good blog? i don't know. i guess it boils down to authenticity.

Thanks for teh kind and funny words!  I zipped over and read your piece about Death.  A timely subject for me,  as you can see.  Your piece gave me a comfort I needed today - especially:

It also dawned on me that I was not actually afraid of death itself but was more afraid of the idea of forever losing someone I love. This was death’s biggest upper hand on me.

So true, so true.   Julia

Life Bestowed

(dedicated to all those who have lost a dear one…)

Tunneling through darkness embracing the light,
Thunderous cry amidst tears of rapture,
A start of pilgrimage into the night,
Another journey in search of nature,

Days will pass and years will follow,
As life begets life and seeds are sown,
Joys and sorrows will be part of tomorrow,
Eventually life will unfold on its own,

But as the daylight succumbs to darkness,
And as the Stars exhaust their radiance,
Life bestowed returns to blankness,
The Law of Existence knows no defiance,

And when the time to return is near,
While sadness grips and anguish reigns,
It is but human to shed a tear,
The light of Love comforts the pains,

But though the daylight succumbs to darkness,
And though the Stars exhaust their radiance,
Life bestowed will always be boundless,
The Law of Existence knows no defiance.

Wow, coolmel, thanks for sharing yourself so openly.  I liked your freedom memoir a lot; you have a very smooth and engaging writing style.

Now, as I try to introduce myself, I'm considering my own freedoms, or, really, consdering my own restraints.  I tend to let my fears of rejection hold me back from sharing anything about who i really am at any given time (I imagine I'm not alone in this).  I think after this post, I'll add a goal of sharing myself more openly…

Anyhow, stats are easy: I grew up chasing my dad's airforce job around the country, went to college at the University of Rochester where I met my husband, 'dropped out', moved to California and worked for several years at some very tedious and unfulfilling jobs, went back to school at UC Berkeley and finished my undergrad in Philosophy (which I love) but decided not to go on to grad school.  That leaves me now, 26, exuberantly married, and struggling with guilt as I work on my novel while my husband brings home the (vegan) bacon.

I'm also in the process of starting up a new business.  I'm passionate about voluntary simplicity–for myself, for the planet.  My goal with my business it to help others find some simplicity in their own lives, to move away from rampant consumerism and perhaps stay there.  For now, though, I'm just trying to get my website to work in ie.  It does not invision css quite like I do.

Check out my blog if you're interested in more of my thoughts.  I welcome your comments on how to make in more interesting and less dear-diary. :)

go ahead. open source is not only good for software. but feel free to put some limits. my own guideline is be translucent not too transparent. see if that applies to you. i have no problem with it, maybe because i'm a LEO :)

keep at it. you're young. your husband would understand. if you haven't done so check out Stephen King On Writing. his story is similar to yours.

godspeed. i envy you. i wish i could do the same. but i'm ignorant and stupid when it comes to business. it shouldn't be that way because i'm a LEO :)

Well, I figured I should tend to my design pod first. Now that it's up and running I can get involved elsewhere- like here. Also, I've been donating some of my time to worthy causes. ;-)

More about me about me related to blogging: I'm becoming more comfortable doing it, but still don't really have a real clear definition of what I'm trying to do.

In my blog, as in my real life conversations, I seem to relate everything back to Integral Theory(pdf). So far it hasn't failed me. The framework is loose enough to fit everything in, but solid enough to withstand criticism.

After blogging for a little while, I realized that I enjoy writing and that blogging is a great way to improve my skill. Getting paid to write isn't one of my goals, but I may have something to offer this budding field of Integral, related to design. What I have to offer could end up being a book that defines Integral Design, but it would take a tremendous amount of research- and my writing would have to improve.

In any case, I'm enjoying writing enough that I took your advice, Mel, and bought both Strunk and White's Elements of Style and Stephen King's On Writing.

nice. i'll check that out too. i suck at design you know?

“Also, I've been donating some of my time to worthy causes. ;-)”

that better be worth it! otherwise that's no excuse! :P

“More about me about me related to blogging: I'm becoming more comfortable doing it, but still don't really have a real clear definition of what I'm trying to do.”

dude. have you seen my shit? i mean not the shit that it is right now. i mean the old shit that it used to be. see this shitty archive! (yep, that's a shitty plug)

what i mean to say is: that's what blogging is all about. you don't have to have a “definition” or a set “goal” you just do it and let the Long Tail (more on this later), the Wisdom of the Crowds (more on this later too), and serendipity do the rest. that's what's fun about blogging because the way you envision it is not the way it's gonna turn out. i can guarantee you that.

my point: blogging is NOT for control-freaks! that's why control-freaks are threatened by it. because the'yre freaks and they just don't understand. for those who want to take it to the extreme, i say that blogging can also be used to surrender to the Divine.

so i suggest you carry on. you have a cool place there. and besides, Steve Pavlina reads your stuff!

“In my blog, as in my real life conversations, I seem to relate everything back to Integral Theory(pdf). So far it hasn't failed me. The framework is loose enough to fit everything in, but solid enough to withstand criticism.”

EXACTLY! it's the most SOLID philosophy that i've ever encountered (so far). though most of the time, it's the people wearing the beer-goggles (present company included) who could use some criticizing  than the fluffy beer-goggle itself.

“What I have to offer could end up being a book that defines Integral Design, but it would take a tremendous amount of research- and my writing would have to improve.”

yep. this is very possible. consider blogging as practice (as in practicing playing piano, not ILP) for your desired goal.

“In any case, I'm enjoying writing enough that I took your advice, Mel, and bought both Strunk and White's Elements of Style and Stephen King's On Writing.”

RIGHT ON!!! you'll gonna love it! trust me. King rocks! that stupid little booklet made me teary-eyed. serious.

The first thing that comes to mind is the phrase “if you were me, I bet you'd have trouble discerning reality from dilusion too”

I've seen things without drugs that people on drugs haven't seen.  Most of the time I actively forget that I've ever seen them, but even after all this time its still hard to fully convince myself that I was just crazy.  It doesn't help that I've learned of people that have had similar experiences.

What have I seen?  I've seen my own worst fears multiplied and amplified beyond my wildest nightmares but I've also seen the most hopeful visions of the future that I could ever ask for.

Hi I am wrensis.  It is an online name I have used for years.  The friend in my life that I have known longest is named Jenny, and I have always called her “Wren” so…I am Wrensis, as in sisterhood

I used the name for years on the Undernet in a room called “Wrensnest”  and still check in on  occasion.  It got to be a huge time consumer to maintain.

Currently I am working on a pod called  Peace and Progressive Action that we hope will help generate some change in our world.,  Perhaps you would come see what we are doing, we would love to have your input.

I became technically challanged yesterday and ~C4chaos was kind enough to help out.
Sadly I didn't ask for help on the silly  Board thing in administration and blew away all of our old discussions.  Like I said technically challenged.  In any case come visit,

The reason I joined the “When I Grow Up I Wanna Be Like Coolmel Pod” is because, well, I am a newbie blogger and needed to steal a few secrets. Funny thing is though, I find he's giving the stuff away for FREE and all I really needed to do was go to Starbucks for a triple latte' and park myself in front of the keyboard. Dang, who knew it could be so easy?

About me:
*My best friends are animals….literally. Join us at the Kindred Spirit Pod if you dig them too.

*I love to create and blogging is just one more outlet for me to consciously express myself through. It sort of reminds me of photography but in written form. When I carry a camera, I always seem to see the world through different eyes. I tune in more. The same thing happens when I consider writing about an experience. I notice I am more present to an experience when I think I might write about it.

*Thanks to ~C4Chaos I now know why they are called “hyper”links.

I'm actually having trouble editing my last blog, for some reason it just won't let me.  I wonder if its because zaadz is still a beta version and many bugs are still being ironed out?  If you have the answer please do tell.

I'm also trying to figure out how to post new pod topics.  The answer is probably right infront of my face, but I can't see it.  If you have the answer…

Anyway I'm glad to be here to share this pod with you all.

Of all the instructions in the world, “Introduce yourself” maybe the most difficult for me to interpret and follow. Which self? To whom? For whose benefit?

So, as you can already see, I am that-which-never-shuts-up, and occasionally I experience that-which-never-shuts-up as a lovely, evanescent it-ness that is here and gone, leaving only the lmemory trace of a giggle for anyfragment of being that cares to believe it can hear.

Right.

I'm 52, a self-employed business coach, a smart ass, a grandmother, married (28 years de jure plus 3 de facto) to TCP, a cyclist (exceptt just now I'm recovering from a shoulder injury, and I love to paddle around Puget sound on my red board.

I've had a Web site for then years (now I have several: mollygordon.com, authenticpromotion.com, shaboominc.com, and various random sites in less than conclusive stages of development. My blog is a relatively recent addition, though I've wanted to let it all hang out online for years. I've had a very successful ezine since 1998, and as I often meet myself (who is she?) through the written word and i can hardly bear to write for myself, the ezine was an insufficient conduit.

I have so much to learn about the blogosphere. Since my incipient urge to journal online, this  world has emerged as a thing unto itself. I'm wrestling with how to become more conscious and accountable in the collective interior/exterior of the blogosphere, and grappling with issues of time, vanity, intention, impulsivity, technology, etc etc etc ad infinitum.

If I took myself seriously, I'd be in deep do-do. I know because I used to. But that's another story.

Introduce Yourself

Amy said Nov 18, 2006, 6:36 PM:

It's very cool to find this pod (I'm lucky enough to be #150 - the 'join me' Vacancy sign was still on when I was walking by, so I registered real quick!), and read about the other blogging freaks here at Zaadz.  I see a lot of common ground and mirror images of myself as I read your posts…

I too am one of those people who knew I was going to be a writer when I grew up, but maybe I just missed something critical about growing up, because here I am 52 already, and until discovering my blogging voice in last few years I haven't written all that much, frankly. A continuously running journal started in the late 1960s, a few broken-hearted poems when my first husband left me back in 1986, and some short stories… nothing to brag about, really. But all those 52 years of experience, oooooo, all that grist for the mill! I figure I've got a huge well of 'material' just waiting to be transformed into catalytic prose. Someday. :-)

Actually I had a huge epiphany about my visions of writing transformative fiction yesterday, but that's for another post. Today, I'm introducing myself as a blogger.

I began dipping my toes into the blogosphere a couple of years ago when I started a collective blog on ecopsychology with colleagues, called Seeds for Thought. I was already editing our online Journal, Gatherings, and an active part of a long-running (10+years) online community of ecopsychologists, and I thought it would be a cool way of showing off some of our better writing and reaching out to the world at the same time. That has been a huge gas - I set it up so we each write to a particular topic relevant to EP - mine is Art & the Environment. I love the subject and it gives me enormous scope, but there's still more I want to write about.

I'm an online communications designer, and had set up several blogs for other people before I started my own, http://allislight.typepad.com/beautydialogues/" target="_blank">The Beauty Dialogues, but I tell you it's like I am in love for the first time… My blog is right up there with my Mac as far as love-objects go.

It's very challenging as well, because I'm talking about my work and my passions in it, and even though I work for myself, there is still fear that I'll go too far, or be inappropriate, or appear too 'soft' or 'personal' or 'feminine', none of them good words in the industry I've chosen. I wrote this great blog about the subject of unbridling my online inhibitions the other day, and that's helped.

I want to write more - about my writing epiphany, and about a blogging project I just finished for an exceptional client (one of the many amazing people I am privileged to work with), but it feels like I've been writing for a long time now, so I'll stop.

It's great to be here!

I love to write.  Sometimes I think I was born to write.  I've received lots of encouragement, and I've found that I love blogs!  I love to meet Zaadzsters who blog and to read their blogs.  It's wonderful to have a place where people can write and share thoughts.  Now I'm smiling, remembering when I was in kindergarten, I lived in a very small town in northern CA, and people still had the habit of pointing up to the sky and remarking when an airplane flew over.  This came up for me when I reflected that, in Zaadz-years, I'm an old fart.  Who would ever have thought “computers” and “blogs.”  When I was coming up we were still working on ”the magic of television.”  :)
