I have recently learned from Chaitanya, a member and moderator of this pod, that he and a group of dedicated friends plan to open a Buddha-Krishnamurti retreat center on some land they have recently acquired in Kushinagar, the place of the Buddha's parinirvana. I think this is exciting news and will post updates about this from time to time on the bulletin board. I plan to try to help raise funds and get the word about this center, and I invite anyone who is interested in this project to do so as well. Here is a brief description of the planned retreat center, which I have taken from the charter Chaitanya has shared with me:
“This place is for meditation and self knowing, inspired by the teachings of Buddha and J. Krisnamurti. It is meant for people who wish to go into themselves with an open mind in order to bring about a fundamental transformation in themselves and thereby help create a new world order free from the divisions of caste, creed, religion or nationality.
The thought of having a retreat in quiet and peaceful surroundings at the place of Buddha's Nirvana at Kushinagar is inspired by the following insights from the teachings of Buddha and J. Krishnamurti:
'Be a light unto yourself. Rely on yourself, and do not rely on external help. Seek salvation alone in truth. Do not look for assistance to anyone besides yourself.' - Buddha, The Mahaparinibbana Sutta (The Sacred Books of the the East. Oxford 1881.)
'Truth is a pathless land and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect.' - J. Krishnamurti
Aims
a. To work for the creation of a new world order without the division of caste, creed, religion or nationality.
b. To create peace and unity in the world through developing harmonious relationship with the nature and all human beings. c. To translate and disseminate Krishnamurti's teachings. c. To hold theme based study retreats. The infrastucture will include a library, a hall for meditation and dialogues, about five to six cottages, a kitchen-dining space, and facilities for the translation work of K's teachings into Indian languages.”
