That makes sense! Someone I know who is also an insomniac swears by reading long boring texts lol.

The only thing I do if I can't sleep that is different from my routine is a body scan, a kind of meditative practice where you lie very relaxed on your back and focus on one part of the body at a time, trying to get and keep each part relaxed as your focus moves up from the tip of your toes to the top of your head.

Peace,

Nicole

I was thinking about the things I like to do late at night when i can not sleep. Some of them are quite unusual but they are time consuming and I always hope that doing them will make me sleepy.
I love to reorganize cabinets, drawers, desks, etc. I will categorize everything and organize them in the most tedious ways. It will eventually get messed up again, but it is an accomplishment none the less. I Will go so far as to alphabetize music cds, DVDs, and books. I usually get sleepy and then I can atleast get 3-4 hours of sleep before my children wake me up at the crack of dawn.
Do any of you guys have unique things that you do late at night?

It is funny, I will do the same and open up my laptop and type away and eventually I get really sleepy, but when I go back and get into bed...I am wide awake. It is like my body is playing tricks on me. I love to write and so I find it comforting to keep a journal or type online in blogs and such.

Hi, as many people know here, I don't sleep much lol and spend a lot of my waking time on Gaia. I don't tend to see insomnia as a problem anymore. If I am awake, and realise I am not going to fall asleep again, I use my BlackBerry or computer and go back to bed if I have time and feel sleepy.

I just go with the flow. Life is good!

Love,

Nicole

Best of luck to you. I've never taken an over the counter pill for sleep. And I found worrying about whether or not I'll be able to sleep made it all the harder to drift off. You might want to avoid exercise before bed though I've heard that it's harder to sleep after you've gotten your heart rate and everything up. breathing helped me to an extent, most relaxing techniques didn't really work for me.

I thank you for your advice, and I will look into it. I have a bedtime ritual and I let my worries drift away when writing in my journal at night, but here lately there have been many changes and added stress that is most likely for the change in my progress. They will not refill my ambien and it sometimes helps if I take 2 of them, but my insurance will not pay for so many in 23 days until doc sends them a PA....still waiting on that about week and few days now. Surgery stress and my need to get things in order and organize is adding to the problem. I will try doing my yoga at night, the relaxation techniques and breathing exercises again as they have helped in the past.

I'm sorry to hear you've had trouble with this. There are some things I take some times I don't need them as much now cause I have far less trouble sleeping. Usuall Kava Kava which is a herb and helps you relax it really works in that respect. Then there's HTP-5 Which My bro and mom take that helps alot most days. Like I said I don't have as much trouble anymore but now I just let my mind wander and try not to let it wander on stress and when I stop worrying about sleeping and figure daydreaming with my eyes closed and letting my mind wander helps alot.
I've tried alot of other things to sleep very few worked lol. AS for drugs I didn't take any of them it didn't get that bad I hope I helped.

I have tried all kinds of sleep aids and not one has helped. Do you have one you prefer or do you have other ways of helping to fall asleep?

Hello, I am Lynn-Nature Lover and I created this pod to help myself as well as others try to cope with and understand sleeping disorders. I have Insomnia and have tried all kinds of sleep aids but to no avail. I find that when I talk to others about it, it lessens the burden I feel and I know I am not alone. I know there are other sleep disorders that people can suffer from and they are welcome to be discussed here as well. We can all share our feelings and advice that we find in our hearts to express. Relaxation techniques, Deep breathing exercises, etc. What has worked for you?
