LGBT community is one of the most active participants in the world, whether it is business, music, movies or fashion. Gay people live, breathe, love, learn, laugh and cry etc. but not too many people outside of the community are aware of this. There are those that try to demonize gays as being only sex driven and promiscuous, not to mention pedophiles. There is a portion of the gay population that does reinforce this popular belief, but there is also the rest of the community that isn’t visible to the eyes the world. What people tend to forget is that we all are human beings, we are all alike and we all search for the same basic things in life. Not everyone is a cross-dressing queen or a bear…just like not everyone is a cowboy or Texan (no offence to anyone in Texas or cowboys). What is needed is a wider consciousness of human condition and a willing to meet each other with an open mind and with no bigotry. It is nearly impossible to change anything if there is no intention to change it. Sadly the same closed mindedness falls upon the gay community. Closed mindedness and prejudice has entrenched itself deeply. The way lesbians are treated and talked about in the male gay community I think is unacceptable. Sure, some jokes are funny but when those jokes become a projected reality that’s when we have to stop and undo what we have done. How in the world can we as a community expect acceptance from the world, when we ourselves do not accept each other, fully….gay, lesbian, transgendered etc.? It is my hope that the barriers between people will start to break down eventually, with A LOT OF WORK from each side. I repeat, A LOT OF WORK…without it there is now way anything will be achieved in the near future.
(These are my opinions and mine alone, if anyone wishes to talk about what I have said, or correct me on something I welcome it)
