debyemm I moved the Rumi Quote to Related Philosophies, Books & Authors. The Rumi's in the Daily Guides are related to a book by Coleman Barks that breaks down some of the poems into daily readings. I think a thread devoted only to ANY quotes by Rumi anyone might want to post is a good idea. I have a new Coleman Barks book of more Rumi translations that will probably fit into there in the future. (3 months ago)

POSITIVITY

The Presence of God always and already is.
Joel S. Goldsmith, Practicing the Presence

What the healer does is to mentally uncover and reveal the Truth of Being, which is that God is in and through every man, and that this Indwelling Presence is already Perfect.
The Science of Mind, page 418

THERE are some people in our lives who are very negative.  We would like them to become positive because we believe they (and we), would experience more happiness and joy.  Basically, we want them to change.

What I've discovered is that free advice and fancy ideas won't change people until they are ready to change.  In the meantime, in addition to irritating them, we only bring pain and suffering upon ourselves in our attempts to make them more positive.

When we stand centered in the absolute power and love that is our divine nature, and are willing to release all judgment toward the one before us, we discover a powerful way to elicit more truth and beauty in whomever or whatever we behold.  In that place of centeredness, those who are ready to change will find us.

So we turn within and put our attention on our own process, deepening in our own love, truth and awareness.  We inspire by loving the ones we are with, recognizing and being compassionate, rather than judging their negativity.  As Jesus said, we become the way, the truth, and the life.

affirmation

I release judgment and my need to fix anyone.

365 Science of Mind p. 333

November - Gratitude

Mind

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus
  ~  Philippians 2:5

This scriptural passage means that we should recognize the Divine Incarnation, universal in essence, but individualized in personal experience.  The spiritual genius of Jesus enabled him to see that each is a unique representation, an individualized expression of One Mind.  The Mind of God in us is the Mind of Christ.  At the center of every man's being the Eternal Christ waits, knocking at the door of his intellect for admission.  This is not a far away Presence, or a future advent.  The recognition of Christ can come to anyone at any time, and under any circumstance.  The consciousness that walked over the troubled waters of human experience, the inner calm that stilled the tempest, is accessible to everyone.

I know that the Christ in me is always triumphant.  I know that Christ in me is one with God; there is no separation, no isolation, no aloneness.  There is a Divine Companion who walks with me and in whose Light I see the Light.

Mind is potential energy, while thought is the dynamic force
that produces the activity for manifestation.
~  The Science of Mind, P. 612

365 Tao (by Deng Ming-Dao) # 314

Soaring

                    For years, I've practiced ritual.
                          It's dead now.
                    For years, I've practiced meditation.
                          It's dull now.
                    Finally, there is only soaring
                          Like an ectoplasmic ribbon
                          Floating over the sea.

When one is mature spiritually, one no longer needs the structure of ritual or formal meditations.  This is not to say that structure was unnecessary, for without it one could not stand at this vantage point.  But once one attains a level where one has completely internalized the lessons of structure, one can freely improvise in fresh and valid forms.

In spirituality, one can soar, free of ordinary restrictions.  Imagine yourself on a high cliff overlooking the ocean.  Slowly your body elongates like a ribbon.  Longer and longer, undulating up into the sky.  Before you is the limitless vastness of the ocean and sky.  You feel drawn forward, and you can glide and soar over that expanse like a ribbon.  That is spiritual freedom.

Autumn is about to pass into winter.  Spring is on the other side, just as spiritual soaring is on the other side of stiff ritual.  Devotions have their own seasons:  When you first learn them, they are magical.  Then they yield their harvest and wither.  On the other side of the withering is a new spring and a new spiritual vista.  Wherever you are in your spiritual years, cooperate with the cycle of the seasons, until you emerge like a dragon, soaring in the sky.

THE MYSTICS OF ALL TIME

Every mystic of every time and tradition has awakened in wonder and rapture to the signs of this eternal Presence and known its mystery as one of relation and love.
The Essential Mystics

The only news we have of Heaven has come through the consciousness of men, and to those few…we owe a debt…of appreciation and thanksgiving.
The Science of Mind, page 452

I WAS sitting in a meditation chapel that had many symbols and pictures of the various faiths and those who had inspired them.  As I looked at them, I thought what a debt of gratitude we owe to these individuals.  They journeyed to the depth of their own being and brought back news of unity, love, and beauty that is also the core of our nature.

How much richer we are with this wisdom.  Yet the very fact that such individuals have existed throughout time is sure evidence of the truth they have brought to us.

The One Mind is eager to be discovered by its creation.  The embrace of the Beloved is reaching out to us as we reach for it.  Enlightenment contains its own truth.  There is only the one life and that life is our life now

affirmation

I give thanks for all those who have come before me and brought enlightenment to the world.  Their legacy enriches me beyond measure.

Kabbalah 365 - Daily Fruit from the Tree of Life
by Gershon Winkler

Day 314

The challenge of the human is to create in every organ, in every limb, a sacred space for God to fill.  Before lifting one's hand against another, or to comfort another, one ought to take a moment to create such a space in the hand, inviting God to fill the limb and thereby the action that the limb or organ is about to perform.  The hand raised to strike would then raise in your consciousness the question, would God want you to strike the other with the Divine Presence?  The hand stretched forth to comfort someone would then be empowered yet further with the added quality of Divine Comfort.  Therefore, invite God to be sovereign over - and to whom you would answer regarding - the actions of all of your organs and limbs so that no part of you is absent of the Divine Presence.

Today's Kabbalah is one that feels so very good to me.  It feels like a warm presence of sanity and like such very good advice in general.  If all people were so, there would be only Peace and Harmony among us.

On the theme of Kindness, I find this Islamic verse with English translation.

Surah 107: Al-Ma'un
(The Small Kindness)

I love the sound of languages not my own and the lyrical sound
of the words in the sung chant.
I appreciate the curving, artistic form of the writing.

A part of me recoils, at the skyline in New York City along with the words “Those who do good deeds only to be seen of men,”.

Yet, I must let the ugliness in my belly, that such a combination brings up, be washed in the Love of the Divine and the knowledge that we are ALL children of our Mother Earth and must find the middle way or it will destroy us all.

Peace & Blessings -
Deb

Science of Mind textbook
pgs 315-316, 315.4-316.2

We must conceive of the Spirit, God, as governing, controlling and directing man's activity.  God is not a failure.  Therefore, we must resolutely turn away from every experience which has been negative, from every experience which has been a failure, and from every experience which denies God.  The mental and spiritual practitioner should deal with his field alone.  He is not opposed to the medical practitioner, he does not say, “I cannot treat this man if he takes a pill.”  Unless the practitioner can prove that the man does not need to take a pill, the patient had better take it if it will benefit him.  There is nothing weird about the application of Truth.  We should not be superstitious in using the Law of Mind.  But the mental practitioner should remain in his own field, which is always the field of thought.

If one is working for a person who has “high blood pressure” or “low blood pressure”, after a few treatments he might have his patient go back to his physician for a physical check-up.  “But”, one may ask, “can I have spiritual treatment if I do this?”  This is a superstitious reaction and all superstition is ignorance.  If the mental and spiritual practitioner can restore normal blood pressure for his patient, a doctor who can weigh and measure it, can quickly ascertain if the work has been done.  When this is understood, the closest co-operation will be brought about between physician and metaphysician.  It is inevitable that the day shall come when they will understand each other.  They are working in two separate fields, which at the same time have a fundamental unity in one primal principle.  But the mental and spiritual practitioner works in the field of Mind alone.

Unlike the physician who must diagnose the disease and work with it, the metaphysician turns entirely away from the disease in his thought.  Diseases - whether they be mumps, measles, poverty or unhappiness - all are wrong adjustments to life; this is what disease is.  Lack of ease.  The mental and spiritual practitioner must turn completely from the condition, as it is, and MUST CONTEMPLATE IT AS IT OUGHT TO BE … never as it appears to be.

Inner Peace
I am grateful for life. I am at peace.

Life is the energy of God flowing through me, invigorating my body and illuminating my mind. Life is the confident, creative, resilient spirit that expresses through me in all that I am and all that I do.

I give thanks for the aliveness in me. I am grateful for wholeness, for my body's ability to work and rest, and for the Christ Spirit active within me. I appreciate my mind and my mind's ability to think and create.

In any challenging situation, I turn my attention to God, my source of inner peace and serenity. Attuned to God's loving presence, I am shown the way of clarity, insight and right action. Relying on my inner source of life to meet my every need, I am richly blessed and at peace.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts … and be thankful.–Colossians 3:15
