debyemm I moved the Rumi Quote to Related Philosophies, Books & Authors. The Rumi's in the Daily Guides are related to a book by Coleman Barks that breaks down some of the poems into daily readings. I think a thread devoted only to ANY quotes by Rumi anyone might want to post is a good idea. I have a new Coleman Barks book of more Rumi translations that will probably fit into there in the future. (2 months ago)

FAITH

There are no God-empty spots.

 H. Emilie Cady

The practitioner seeks to realize man as perfect, not needing to be healed of anything.

The Science of Mind, page 202

IN the Bible there is a story about a man who has been coming to a pool for thirty-eight years in hopes of being cured.  Jesus came by and asked him, “Do you wish to be healed?”  He answered affirmatively, and Jesus replied, “Pick up your mat and walk.”  The man was healed instantly.  This is a story about faith, and how when one has a deep and abiding belief in the power of Spirit, and healing is possible.

I read somewhere that Jesus never referred to his healings as miracles; he called them his work.  I liked that because I can relate to it.  My work-our work-is to develop a spiritual practice that assists us in deepening our faith so we feel centered in God at all times.  Ernest Holmes taught that there is no situation that is too difficult for God.  So, don't judge by appearances; Spirit can handle whatever you are experiencing.

Spiritual healing is possible because we are spiritual beings.  It is not our power but Spirit's that does the work.  We are instruments in a divine process that knows no limits and has no bounds.  And perhaps the greatest news of all is that it works for everyone.

affirmation

In this moment, I know that Spirit and I are one.  There is no separation and no distance.  In this oneness I come to see that everything is possible.  Let the healing begin.

December - Light

Today I Live

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death,
neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there
be any more pain.
  ~ Revelation 21:4

Pray not that sinners may perish,
but that the sin itself may disappear
~ The Talmud

The wisest man who ever lived told us that the knowledge of Truth shall make us free.  All books of spiritual wisdom have taught us that it is not the one who makes the mistake whom we should seek to destroy; it is the mistake itself which must be erased.  Now, this means that evil has no existence in itself and has no history.  No matter what the negations of yesterday may have been, the affirmations of today rise triumphant and transcendent over them.  Thus all the evils of our yesterdays disappear into their native nothingness.

If we behold beauty instead of ugliness, then beauty will appear.  If we persist in seeing the true rather than the false, then that which is true will appear.  Where is the false, the untrue, and the evil when the knowledge of Truth has made us free?  Its days are as though they had never been; its cause is neutralized; hence it leaves no effect.  Let us, then, cease weeping over the shortcomings and mistakes and evils of our yesterdays and, steadfastly beholding the face of the great and the divine Reality, let us resolve to walk in that light wherein there is no darkness.

Definitely I know that every negative condition of the past is cleared away from my consciousness.  I no longer think about it, see it, or believe in it.  Nor do I believe that it has any effect whatsoever in my experience.  Today I express perfect life here and now.  Today I live.

365 Tao (by Deng Ming-Dao) # 337

Moderation

Alternate between the solitary and the social.
Whether alone or with others, keep serenity

Some people argue that Tao can be known only through bitter asceticism.  Others prefer massive congregations.  But those who follow Tao are neither too solitary nor too gregarious.  They have regular times of privacy.  And they equally enjoy being with others.

Privacy is good.  But an overly monastic life can lead to unhappiness, delusion, and even insanity.  In the same way, relationships are good.  But too much social intercourse can lead to conformity, conflict, and stress.  Therefore, the way of Tao aims to maximize the good and minimize the bad.

We should have regular times to be alone, meditate alone, even sleep alone.  This gives us clarity.  Then we can bring this understanding to our relationships.  Friendships will be all the more wonderful.  Once we understand moderation, we move between the solitary and the social without any mistake.

SOM Magazine Daily Guide for 12/03/08

By Steven Van Meter, RScP

WHAT'S EATING YOU?

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish, and it swallow up Jonah.  And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 1:17

The power within man can free him from all distasteful conditions if the Law governing this power is properly understood and utilized.

The Science of Mind, page 321

THE story of Jonah and the whale is a great biblical story about listening and acting upon your intuition.  Jonah felt he was receiving a message from God.  He denied the information and ran from the message until he was swallowed up by the situation and was forced to take action on his intuition.

The Universe is always speaking to us using nature, intuition, and other means to get its message across.  But are we listening?  Have we developed our metaphysical ears to hear the hidden meaning that is just under the surface of the appearance?  Have you ever had an intuitive thought and not followed it, only to have the point driven home in ways that were undeniably spiritual?  How many times have we run from what we fear, only to have it come up before us in bigger ways?  Same song, different verse, a little bit louder, and a little bit worse!

The sooner we pay attention to what the universe is telling us, the less we fight the river.  What is that deep secret that you have been hiding from yourself?  The story of Jonah is that intuitive call that eats at you until you take action.  Don't let life swallow you up just to get your attention.  Don't die with your music inside you.

affirmation

I listen and act upon my intuition and am guided to my greater yet to be as I remember who I AM!

Grace

A difficult situation might cause me to feel as a caged bird might feel–that there is no way out. Instead, I remember that, like the bird, I have a song in my heart. I sing a song of God's love, the source of grace that frees me from all limitations.
Grace is a precious gift from God, and it is an essential aspect of my Christ nature. During a silent moment of prayer, my heart's song helps me let go of limiting thoughts and be receptive to the freeing power of God's loving grace.
My life is a song of joy and wonder. I give thanks for the grace of God that moves me beyond any limitation that I would encounter. With gratitude, I welcome opportunities to experience new insights, greater harmony, increased vitality, and plentiful supply. Through God's grace, I am blessed.

“Each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ's gift.”–Ephesians 4:7

Grace

Lars your reference to a bird  and a song made me think of a simple 3 chords song I once wrote and on which one could improvise endlessly.

A little bird sat in a cage
a girl not even six of age
saw sadness, sadness in his eye
and quietly
let him fly….

Lalalala la la
lalalala lalala
lala nana nana na
na na mmmm…..mm..
lala la la…

when I think about it,  the little girl could be the innocence and purity of the heart and her name could very well be  Grace….

A Year With Rumi by Coleman Barks

A General Introductory Lecture

A nightingale flies nearer the roses.
A girl blushes.  Pomegranates ripen.

Hallaj will be excuted.
A man walks a mountain path, solitary
and full of prayer.

Narcissus at the edge, creekwater washing
tree roots.  God is giving
a general introductory lecture.

We hear and read it everywhere,
in the field, through the branches.
We will never finish studying.

Neither of us has a penny,
yet we are walking the jeweler's bazaar
seriously considering making a purchase.

Or shall I say this with other metaphors?
A barn crowded with souls.
Quietness served around a table.

Two people talk along a road
that's paved with words.
