A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose: Eckhart Tolle

I started reading this book at the highly suggested request from a friend. And she is in the Oprah class for this book. There are some interesting views in this book.

Anyone else started this book or has read it? Insights, thoughts…..?

Denise,

What timing ! ! !

I just started this book last week. I've already posted something from it, here in this pod, under body image and under meditation techniques.

My first friend at Zaadz, was reading this when she extended friendship, over a year ago now.  I bought it on her recommendation but have had so many good and worthy books piled up to read, I just had not gotten around to it, until now.

I had heard that Oprah was recommending it and have meant to do a Google search for something like a YouTube about it.

So happy you've started a thread for it here.  I really like Eckhart Tolle's work.  I've listened to several CD programs of him speaking.  Should I send you a list?

I just ordered the book last week, and expect it to arrive sometime next week. I too will be taking the Oprah class with a few other friends. I look forward to read it and sharing what I learn with others, and of course hearing about what others have learned. We should do the same here in this pod.
Right now I am reading his book, “The Power of Now.” I am really enjoying it. I should be done by the time his book, “A New Earth,” arrives in my mail box.

I signed up for the Oprah class.  I love Tolle and especially “A New Earth.”  I got it from Audible.com and listened to it quite a while back, then last year a friend mentioned it so I listened to it again.  I know I loved it both times, but I didn't retain anything specific so I'm hoping that by taking the class I can retain it!

I'm also going to buy a copy of the book this weekend if I can find one locally so I can make notes and underlines and highlights.  I don't know if I should be concerned that I don't retain more than I do…my memory used to be very dependable.  I'm affirming that it's just because I'm in the present moment more frequently (smile) at least I hope that's it!

Looking forward to sharing insights with you all.

OK, so now I'm signed up for “the class” as well. For me, evenings can be full of hectic demands, and so I'll see how it goes.  My understanding is that I may just be able to access archives after the fact, like maybe early the next morning or late the same night.

This will be fun and I'm very happy there is a group forming, in our pod, to experience this together, as a group.  I believe this will be a tool that helps to elevate our abilities to be a combined force for good in the world.  I look forward to our continuing evolution together.

Thanks for letting me know about “the class”.  So, far I'm making great progress on learning to recognize the Ego thanks to what I've read already.

Hi everyone,

I have both books on audio book, and I highly recommend listening to it as well as reading it.  I have a 30-40 minute commute to and from work, so I have been listening to A New Earth for the second time.  To have Tolle's voice reading aloud to me is so helpful for retention, and even though I just read it for the first time last month, the information is still refreshing and beneficial.  I feel like having it in audio format (every morning) is really saturating and immersing me in the material.  Also, its almost like a meditation before and after work, and it frames my day perfectly.  I will probably go back and listen to The Power of Now when I'm done with my second listening of A New Earth.  :)

I'll be joining you in class Monday night!

Sara,

I like to listen to audio books while hiking and I agree that it is a different experience of the work.  I will have to hunt this one down now that you remind me of this.  I do have several Tolle CDs and I do like listening to him.

I recently had an experience with a book that was hard for me to get pulled into energetically but enjoyed much more the energetic expression of the author reading it, which for me was like sitting comfortably and chatting with her.

Deb, thanks for letting me know about this group.

Hi all!  I haven't been around for a little while.  “Independently” I signed up for the Oprah class - as I shared with Deb I knew I had the book around here somewhere, but I couldn't locate it, until Saturday, 2-23-08.  Doc read this book last year; he marked in the front cover that he completed it on 2-22-07, only nine days before he entered the hospital, to make his final journey in May.

My son gave me Tolle's book The Power of Now for Christmas, which I hope to finish reading by the time the class starts.  I've also read a little into A New Earth.  Doc always underlined and made notes as he read, so it will be interesting to see what he found important as I read along.

In the writing class I take during the winter we were asked to write about our 'bucket list'.  I said that I was already doing mine; the 'list' is made as I follow the energy of what is drawing me toward it.  I'm definitely being drawn to this work, which must be part of my purpose.  I look forward to the discussions here with you all.

I'm ready.  As one small piece of humanity.  And you are ready, as another piece of humanity.  And so perhaps we are a part of the initial wave that's flowing across the face of the world.

I won't be joining this group due to other places I feel called to put my attention, but I thought I would chime in that when I read the Power of Now in hardcover I noticed that the book itself as a physical object was radiating higher energies just like a crystal does. Very powerfully, too.

So you folks might be on the lookout for that phenomenon. Probably even audios as well. It would be the result of his conscious or soul intention, this radiating.

This ability is available to any author, as an extra “dimension” of affecting the audience, beyond the words written. Or it can be used in music production, too, of course. Anything mass-distributed.

Deb, there seems to be so much in this to discuss; that I have started a new thread for the idea of   “p. 6 - The message of humanity's early flowers - the messengers Buddha, Jesus and others - became largely misunderstood and often greatly distorted.  It certainly did not transform human behavior except in a small minority of people.”

This way, perhaps we can discuss the book here, and some ideas as offshoots on other threads, to prevent this thread from becoming too long.

p. 6 - This book (A New Earth) itself is a transformational device that, beyond the important ideas and concepts it may present, allows a shift to take place within your self as you read it.

Sorry for the type, I don't know how to cope, and my copy thingy copied too much and….

Anyway, I crowed when I read this, because it is exactly what I said I think earlier in this thread: his physical books are portals, like crystals, emanating energy. So he's aware of that.

Did anyone else have a reception problem?  I hope not…I'm hoping it was just something going on locally that brought the class to a screeching halt for me.

I tried to sign in early - at 7:30pm Central time but my video of the class never did come up (the window opened but the video never displayed), I did try to relaunch a few times.  It always was a stressful idea to try to fit my life into an exact time (I logged into class while cooking dinner, I checked in just after 8pm while everyone else was eating - not that our family dinners, though eaten together, are anything more than very casual and flexible).  Never has worked too well for me to be on any exact time where mass net activities are concerned.  I experienced similar volume of traffic problems when I participated in Lynne McTaggart's Intention Experiments.  Ideas slightly ahead of technology I suspect.

I am happy to see Oprah is offering alot of of options for taking the class without being in the live, real time, online version.  While the idea was exciting, to be doing something at the same time as so many others, it will probably work out better for me and I'll get more from it, if I finally learn to use the iPod Nano I got for Christmas and do the classes via podcast.  I've been able to download music but haven't gotten the hang of podcasts yet.  This will be a good motivation to get over the learning curve.

It would be nice to hear that someone from our group got in and hear a live report from them of what it was like.  We have all week to view the class in a variety of ways - on Oprah.com, as a transcript, as a podcast, they are even doing a dial-up speed version on Fridays after the class.  The other options should be available tomorrow.  We have all week to discuss whatever we've gotten out of it all.

Ah, what a great example of my ego making itself obvious.  I feel a bit down to have missed out, but what did I really miss?  There is no time and no space to this and I'm connected with everyone else whose simultaneously going on this adventure.  What more can a person wish for ! ! !

Being there? as planned - maybe - maybe next week and maybe not.  Maybe being in control of when, where and how is better for me personally.

I signed in a 5:30 P.M. PST and class did not start until 6:00. Everything went really well for the first 20 minutes or so and then everything pretty much came to a dead stop. So I was not able to get back on after that. All they talked about for the first 20 minutes was what gave Mr. Tolle the inspiration to write this book. It was actually quite interesting. I don't think that I am going to be trying to make anymore of the live events, unless they are able to handle all of the traffic.

On a side note. Is it just me, or is this one of the best books you guys and girls have ever read. I have so many passages highlighted that you would think I was reading a coloring book. Great stuff!

I've had quite a few aha moments! LOL I'm only on chapter 7. I'm just reading straight through and then I'll go back and highlight and make notes.

I have noticed some changes just recognizing the ego. For example, some lady drives up on my bumper, I'm doing 80 mph mind you, and then changes lanes and gets right in front of me and then slows down. My first response was 'bitch!' . I immediately recognized ego and said, hello ego, I see you. And  I just lane changed and didn't give the other driver any of my attention or energy. She 'disappeared' from my reality. I stuck in some great music and continued on my merry way. Had a great drive home. It was freeing. I just observed and then ego just kinda went away.

I realized that our 'buttons' that people push is the ego!

Thank you all for these links. I am really enjoying listening to Eckhart Tolle [always pronounced this as Tall till today :P ]

What I am enjoying is, that his presence is as much without ego as his book describes [from what they're discussing]. The Power of Now had seen me through one of the most difficult periods of my life; and though I am still not drawn to this book, I guess it's because I know that what is said there, will come to me through you all, and others on the site. That's what happens to knowledge now! [I probably will get the book, tho!]

But to listen to Eckhart and his discussion with Oprah; both so comfortable with each other; coming from different realities, but coming together; fielding questions that were directed towards one or the other or both!  And without ego, their words are flowing into each other.

I am somehow reminded of J Krishnamurti; listening to whom transformed my childhood. I did use to feel, though–why does he talk with such passion, trying to push through ideas, feeling that he is talking to those who can't really see the truth. I wished for him to find peace.  When I listen to Eckhart, I can see him embodying what he has written: he is talking from buddha heart to buddha heart; from oneness to oneness.

Just some monkey thoughts as I go back to listen!

I tried yesterday to listen again, both the archive and the Mp3, but couldn't maintain the necessary speed to continue.  Frustrating - it's a long 'sit' to revisit.

Deb, like you, it's good to know that we can continue with the work of the class without hearing all of the webcast.

I thought it was interesting that a big concern for some folks is whether the book is “new age” and whether a Christian can be a part of the dialogue.  I was glad to hear Oprah's answer and explanation of how she has been able to integrate spiritual teachings into her Christian foundation.

I can relate to Tolle's experience of having to move to the US to write A New Earth.  I had tried to download the class on Tues to my laptop.  I think I violated the satellite fair access policy because somehow I got audio and video going and the Real Player I just upgraded has given me nothing but trouble and wouldn't play the clips it showed I had.  Last night after everyone was sleeping, I just had to get up and try somehow to get the class onto my iPod.

I was compelled to buy myself an iPod for Christmas.  My main reason was that I knew there was sometimes podcast content that I would be interested in hearing.  I'm totally challenged when it comes to new electronics/technology and it has taken me 2 mos to finally succeed in getting something I wanted on the iPod (I got music I would not have downloaded but that existed somewhere on my computer accidentally when I installed the iPod).  My previous attempt to download a podcast had failed.

Well, I now know why I had to get an iPod.  I had to get up while everyone else slept last night to try downloading.  This time I went to iTunes and easily got the class ! ! !  I'm now subscribed for the duration.  I was gone all day to St Louis; and because of my knee, I mostly was along for the ride (except to go to the dr with my MIL).  I knew this would be a great opportunity to really listen.  I listened twice and will come back with some comments tomorrow, or as soon as I can.  Our computers are in a state of flux and that may reduce my online time.

The sound was crystal clear, it was easy to go back and re-listen to parts, when I wanted to.  I love it and know that is how I'll do the entire class.

OM,

I found learning to load it challenging but using it is so easy that my 3 yr old could easily learn though my 86 yr old MIL (who fell asleep listening to the class on the drive home) was severely challenged to use the menu.  Sadly, though she showed some interest in the unusual and historical circumstance of so many “studying” a book all at the same time over the internet (in the class, Oprah indicates over 700,000 had signed up, though the website only claimed 500,000), I found myself questioning whether “awakening” or “discovering her life purpose” at her age makes sense and felt immediately ashamed of myself for judging her so.

I find it highly interesting that you felt the impulse to buy an iPod about the same time I did.  Could be the universe/Source ?, knowing this event was coming and would overload the current technology, have implanted this desire in more than a few of us, reaching us through the most logical excuse.  I am thankful I acted on it, though until now, I had felt a bit selfish in the luxury of an unnecessary expansion of my electronic gizmos.

If anyone else has something they want to move, go ahead and copy and paste into the place where you want it.  Then, let me or a moderator know and we can delete the original one for you.

I'm keeping this original thread for all “general” discussions not related to a specific chapter or class.

Global Meditation 30 Mins Before Class each week

debyemm said Mar 9, 2008, 10:51 AM:

This was posted at the Oprah.com discussion board for Chapter 1 of the A New Earth Class.

Take part in a world wide awakening movement…. A Global Group Meditation 30 minutes before the web cast of Oprah and Eckhart Tolle's conversation about ‘A New Earth'. It has been said that ‘God's one and only voice is silence and we must find a way to spend time each day and ‘enter the gap' or enter the silence, the stillness to hear the word of God, Spirit, Consciousness, etc. If you listened to or watched the first web cast you may remember what Tolle said to the woman toward the end of the broadcast. She asked if humanity was ready and willing for something such as A New Earth in a global sense. He replied, “The only concern you should have is AM I ready for this?” Am I ready to be present? Am I ready to be still?

So if you are ready and would like to take part in a moment of pure Presence please read on. The Staff of Oprah suggest the viewer to login to the web cast 30 minutes before the class begins. This will ensure you actually make it into the class. What could you do with those 30 minutes while you wait for the conversation to begin? MEDITATE. Be in silence. But more importantly, be in silence with hundreds of thousands of others around the globe at THE SAME TIME.

We are all sitting there in front of our computers anyway, why not help the collective consciousness and stay in a space of silence and raise the vibrations of everyone involved? Besides, the entire point of the book is to BE in the present moment. Meditation is one of the best exercises to quiet the mind so you CAN be present. It is very simple, all you need to do is put the sound of the computer on mute, sit back in your chair or lay down in a comfortable place. If you want to set a timer on your cell phone so you don't miss the beginning of the class then do that. Focus only on your breathing. Inhale through the nose, and exhale through the mouth. As you exhale, make the sound of AH. You can also make the sound of BuddHA, KrishNA, AllAH, GOD, or any other word that represents what God/Spirit means to YOU. I

f you find your mind is having a hard time quieting down, just concentrate on your breathing. Allow any thoughts to float away like bubbles and then refocus on the silence…Blessings.

PS - I did the pre-class meditation for about 10 mins between 7:40-7:50 pm.

I found it easier than usual to empty my mind (at least as well as I am able to quiet my ever active mind at this time).  It was an interesting meditation regardless, very calming and peaceful.  I heard a phrase from my “I” but am currently suspicious of anything language related as being the ego.  That's what A New Earth has done to me at this point.

Last weekend, I watched a video of the Nightline interview of Morrie Schwartz who inspired the Tuesdays with Morrie play and movie.  I saw the play recently with my MIL.  I think I wrote about it in the Death thread.  Anyway, there were some profound insights coming from the man in the 3 interviews with Ted Koppel.  I'll try to write about it soon.

I thought of Morrie and saw a beautiful blue circle of light in the middle of my inner mind vision.  Then I moved towards it like going through a tunnel.  That's the best I can describe it.  I pulled back then, not ready to enter that realm.

Technically Challenged - Me & the Class

debyemm said Mar 10, 2008, 5:54 PM:

All I got at first was a white blank page.   I was confused by the Take Your Seat and the Refresh buttons, especially the message that would show up under the Refresh button making me think that I wasn't logged in.  I actually linked on 3 separate times from 7:30 until 7:55 when I thought it was probably no longer possible.

After 2/3rds of the class had gone by (around the 1 hr mark when “Cathy” had called in) and our family finished dinner, I thought I'd try one more time and did get in.  So, either alot of people had gotten out or they have solved the problem of being able to handle the volume of people okay.

Still, the feed was very choppy (I have satellite access), the video was blurry.  Not a quality experience.  The idea is exciting, the reality isn't quite there yet, at least not for my equipment.  Maybe a T1 or DSL would receive a better experience but I wouldn't know.

Glad I have the iPod because I don't have to get attached to the idea of being in the actual live class.  I will keep trying week after week, if I am available, to see if it continues to improve over time.

debyemm said Mar 12, 2008, 10:25 PM:

I've not been having alot of luck downloading Chap 2.  Part of the problem is just that I'm so new to using an iPod.  Part of it is that I've discovered a new term (Fair Access Policy) in our technological world - actually learned a bit about it last week.  I suspected the iPod as being part of the problem.  We have an Earthlink Satellite Access account.  We were thrilled to go from dial-up to satellite, thinking it so much superior.  Yeah, there were problems when the weather was bad but it seemed so much faster.  DSL or T1 aren't possible (including not economically feasible) as we live too remotely, too sparsely populated.

Last week, we were also upgrading our entire computer system.  My partner and husband got a new Dell, I acquired his which had much more memory and muscle than my old one, my older son (7 yrs old) got my old one and the baby (3 yrs old) got the older boy's (replacing one so old it wouldn't run some of his educational software.  The tech we hired kept me from losing all my old Outlook emails which was nice and yet, he cleaned off all old stuff from the previous user and so all feels quite new.  He also downloaded software as needed and this occured pretty frequently.  There were problems with that and when I checked the satellite system that is when I first learned about Fair Access.

So, when he returned to finish the job, that couldn't be completed in a whole day midweek, over the weekend, we tried to upgrade the satellite service to add more download threshold.  Earthlink is a reseller of Hughes service but we have used them because they also provide website hosting.  Earthlink's sales office isn't open on weekend's and Hughes, who was open, couldn't help me unless I cancelled my Earthlink account.  I pretty much forgot about it by Monday.

Then Tuesday, I began trying to download the podcast.  I discovered that my computer tried to download not only the podcast but the audio and video too.  All at the same time.  Long story shorter, I tried again late at night before going to bed.  It seemed to be going well when I went to sleep but when I woke, it was gone because Windows had decided, as it sometimes does, to download an update and shut down and restart my computer, losing the podcast that was there as my iPod had not yet been sync'd when the shutdown occurred.  I tried again this morning but the Fair Access had our speeds shut down (it was showing that it would take 140 hrs to download the 1-1/2 hr podcast).  The speed was slowed down so bad that I couldn't get shipments out for our business (as we arrange carriers and complete shipping forms online) before I had to leave for my MILs and my dr appts.

Well, many calls and much educating of myself throughout the day and I find that I have unlimited downloads from 3am-6am.  I'll try to get up (or just stay up until) and start the podcast downloading at 3am.  We'll also regain our usual access, after our 24 hr limitation period (which they spin as “recovery”) at 1am but I don't dare gobble that up for a podcast.  The tech admitted that downloading music, videos and podcasts will cause one to exceed the Fair Access in a hurry.  We can change services from Earthlink to Hughes, gaining double the download threshold, for $10 a month more and about a one hour wait (since we have all the equipment).  There are complications - our email accounts (which we will see about keeping for a 3 mos transition period) and our website (which would have to remain at Earthlink indefinitely).

Earthlink realizes this is a problem but can offer us no more for any price.  They are negotiating with Hughes, so they can offer more but they have no idea if or when that will be successful.  With any luck however; I'll grab Chap 2 successfully tonight.  Someday it will all seem easy but it has eaten up so much time.  It has been an intense day on so many levels (beyond this specific issue).  While what I'm learning helps me cope with my challenges, I seem more and more in a different place than so much around me.

Sorry for rambling on so long.  Felt very frustrated by the state of it all.

I got the podcast.  I have a nano and, for whatever reason it wasn't like this on the Chap 1 Class but this time, this podcast has the video with it.  Awesome.  Crystal clear like TV.  I'll have to remember to do these downloads at night or we'll have problems.

It wasn't like that when I managed to peak in with my laptop the night of.  Perhaps it was the satellite under restriction that made it look so.  Don't know.  I'll try the class live again next week.

I hope to post Class 2 notes soon.

Eckhart Tolle in my life

Adyama said Mar 17, 2008, 1:35 PM:

Hi all;
I've been enjoying the webcast with Eckhart and Oprah very much, and I've been doing some writing each week pertinent to it. I could post those things here under your existing chapter headings if you like. And here comes another one tonight!!

Eckhart has been a very special teacher in my life.  I'll paste in something I wrote about what happened there, called “Thank you Eckhart Tolle”

Eckhart Tolle, the well known author of ” A New Earth” and “The Power of Now”, has been the catalyst who has, without knowing me personally at all, been the one that changed everything.

I somehow figured out in the year 2001 that I was always in either the past or the future, and wasn't really very much in the present at all. Because that didn't seem like a good thing, I set out in my usual way to figure things out and I searched “living in the present” at amazon.com. Up came “The Power of Now” along with a selection of other books. I ordered two other books too, not knowing, but don't even know what those books were now. I was so taken with “The Power of Now” that I'm not sure I ever read them.

“The Power of Now” seemed so clearly to be coming from the same source that I was experiencing as the source of my personal guidance, which I understood intellectually to be my own Self, but which I was yet unable to experience as such. To have a book so clearly coming from that source was absolutely riveting.

I tried to register for a retreat with Eckhart Tolle in October of 2002 but it was already full with a huge waiting list in February when I tried to register. By some stroke of luck, by August I was given a space and was pleased yet also I remember being kind of confused. I couldn't understand why I was going, because I thought he had already said it all in a book, so why was I going? What more could I possibly be expecting?

When it came time to go to the retreat, I mostly remember just sitting there with a great big silly grin on my face, totally being delighted by Eckhart's way of being with us. There were 450 of us in the big hall at Omega Institute, and it was just a matter of sitting there and listening to Eckhart for five days. In between his talks I was just very quiet.

Somehow between the beginning and the end of that retreat, something irrevocably changed for me. I was immersed in bliss, and knew that everything that I had ever wanted as a spiritual seeker had now arrived, and there was nowhere else to go. Somehow it seemed that Eckhart Tolle had handed it all to me on a silver platter. My old life ceased operating the way it had before, and there was a long way to go to learn how to live from this new place.  All sense of need or lack was gone and everything not only appeared to be perfect as it was, radiating with love and life, but that also pervaded me and made it so that any personal problems appeared to have vanished.

Of course, Eckhart Tolle knew nothing of this because he personally hadn't done anything, although it took a while for that to sink in. It was the awakeness that was speaking through him that somehow woke me up. He is such a clear clear channel. I owe him an infinite debt just for being so clear, and for being there at the right time for me. It felt so incredibly grateful to Eckhart but at the same time I could see that it wasn't him. Its the awakeness that I owe. The awakeness that took him, took me also.

It has been over five years since this happened and it has not faded or wavered at all. All that changes is how much of a commotion the “me” is making at any given time, which may or may not be obscuring the perfect unity underneath. The underlying foundation never wavers at all, but steadies whatever is happening in my personal life. And when I give it the space, it lives life through me, as me.

Thank you Eckhart!!

Adyama,

Thank you for joining us. I would welcome it sincerely, if you would post your writing from each week, under that chapter's heading.  I have not been able to keep up as much in the last week as I would have liked, had some difficulty in getting the podcast downloaded for a few days.  Chap 2 is so full of so much really good content - I'm only about a third of the way (around the half hour mark) into my notes (yet this is my second listening for I only listen the first time through).  If I don't get a Chap 3 - Class 3 heading/thread in this board before you are ready, just start the new post yourself - please.

I am excited that the members of this pod, who are studying along with the Oprah class, can have the benefit of your experience and years of living from that place prodded by the retreat experience with Eckhart Tolle in person.  While I have no doubt that the energy field around him is palpable, I understand completely what you mean when you say that “It was the awakeness that was speaking through him that somehow woke me up” that is wasn't the human Eckhart but that the channel that he is, is very clear and that is my impression so far as well.

I look forward to the sharing you are willing to do with us.  I feel very fortunate for you to have found us.  Thank you.

Hello, Everyone!

I am right now letting go of my ego attachment to the first lengthy post that I wrote for this discussion, which I then lost!  hee! hee!

I am very excited about this - how much hope and energy and possibility for change there lies in this book and this event with Oprah.  Just a few days before my friend urged me to get the book and join the webcast, I had read Paul Wilcock's profile:  http://justbeone.gaia.com. I have been reading about and trying to embody the principles of “We are all One” and Being Nonjudgemental for a long time, and I would briefly feel glimpses of it.  But when I read Paul's profile, BOOM!  It seemed to have entered my being in a way that I felt I could do it.  Then, with such lovely timing, came Eckhart Tolle's book in my life (our lives)!  And now, there are more and more people experiencing this awakening - it feels like something very good is brewing!

Thank you for this discussion and for everyone's contributions.

I had less trouble getting into Class 3, got right in, in fact.  But the video is blurry and the audio is choppy.  If could be that satellite just isn't the right provider to make this a pleasant experience.  It could be that I'm just spoiled by my iPod Nano which gives such crystal clear video and perfect audio.

Also, a “have to be there between 8-9:30pm on Monday nights” just doesn't work for me w/family.  Too stressful and not worth it for the quality.

I'm convinced - I don't intend to log in to any more classes.  I don't really care about participating, I gave up trying to call in to such things in high school.

Oh, yeah, since time is always the present, I'm still part of the energy, whenever I view it.  At least, I can pretty much keep up with the weekly schedule, though I couldn't get my Chap 2 notes done and posted before tonight's class.  Haven't even looked at the Class 3 questions but I guess I'll do that in the bath tonight.

Adyama, what a fabulous story about your experience with Eckhart Tolle. When we're “ready to pop,” the vibes from a guru-level person are sufficient, the energies they simply radiate through their embodiments, through, as you say, not FROM, are enough to make the quantum leap for those who are ready, whose souls have decided “It's time.”

My twin flame and I were drawn to Adyashanti, feeling that he would catalyze us that way, but his presence has not materialized in our lives, and interestingly enough we have been catalyzed anyway. Maybe just the “contact” of all our Spirits was enough.

Thank you for all your sharings, and I look forward to more.

Deb, I don't feel that it's necessary to catch every word of every webcast in order to gain whatever benefit your Spirit has in mind for you from the course. I applaud you for accepting whatever the technology and time permit, with equanimity.

Wake up the time is now.

Oh yeah, the meditation period crossed my mind but I was in the middle of making dinner and my 7 yr old was serenading me with loud suspense music, not conducive to going within.  On second thought, a good test at getting away.  Just kidding or am I?

I posted this on the Oprah message board for A New Earth this morning -

When I downloaded the podcast for Chap 4, I got a beautiful surprise - the theme music for the class.

So, this morning I finished listening to this podcast and decided to spend a few minutes meditating to the music and had the most blissful, almost orgasmic, experience. I felt all the teachings washing through me, I felt the energies of Oprah and Eckhart and of all the students which are scattered over the earth like a web of awakening consciousnesses. I experienced Dmitry's panoramic breathing while keeping my eyes closed and going within.

Suddenly, I was transported back to the feeling I had the gloriously beautiful fall day last Nov when my father-in-law died in his bed at home on the farm where our residences both are located. That morning, I felt his spirit soar as it was freed from the body and was everywhere all at once, in the falling leaves, in my children's joy and laughter, in the Red Cardinal that came to visit us in the “fairy house” of bushes where we sat together being family as my husband and the hospice nurse prepared my father-in-law's body for transport to the medical school that would study the effects the brain tumor had upon him.

And I cried tears of joy to feel that bliss and freedom of being, while yet remaining alive as a human in my own body.

Thank you for sharing this music with us. I intend to do this meditation to your music every morning and will meet you all there in formless consciousness each day.

Thank you for sharing this deeply, Deb. Your description points up why I am a Tantra teacher: true spiritual bliss involves the entire body, no parts left out. Most religions of course are anti-body. But some spiritual teachers describe this whole-body experience. The Bliss is entire-Being, because it is the Bliss of sheer Beingness, not about anything else, “about” Being.

Thank you again. I can't wait to get access to this music. sounds like it needs to be put on Repeat somehow.

Do you know who the composer is? Is it someone we would recognize?

OM,

I've been listening to The Power of Now on CD and Eckhart was talking about this anti-body issue in the part I was listening to today and the religious connections to that.

The second day I listened to this the experience was even more in my body than the first day and without the memories of my FIL.  I can only describe it as orgasmic and my breathing actually became accelerated and I thought I wasn't going to be able to bear the sheer energy of it.  Music has always worked well for me and I have often incorporated it with conscious metaphysical “work” to raise the vibration and energy higher.

The 3rd and 4th days, I couldn't quite get “there”.  At first, the thought crossed my mind that I was “trying” too hard to make something happen that had flowed naturally before and so I tried to “let go” of expectation.  There may have certainly been an element of that but tonight it occurs to me that my husband and I shared intimate time together just before the music meditation the last 2 days and so that may be a siphoning off factor.

With sexual energy and with spiritual practice, I think of something like the ecstatic dancing of some practices - I'm think Sufi or dervish.  I suppose Tantra is in that realm as you indicate, though I'm not well versed in it.

I am glad you wrote about the “whole-body” experience because that is certainly what I had the 2nd time and to a lesser degree the first one that I wrote of.

I forgot to answer this ?

“I can't wait to get access to this music. sounds like it needs to be put on Repeat somehow.   Do you know who the composer is? Is it someone we would recognize?”

From Oprah.com -

“… the theme music used in our New Earth webcasts. “We Are One Earth”, the theme for “A New Earth” webcast, is now available as a free download on iTunes and Oprah.com. The song was created specially for Harpo Productions, Inc. by composers Swaynce Pellegrino and Susan C. Trotter. (c) 2008 Harpo Productions, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Enjoy!”

This morning was a mild but pleasant experience.  I am now recognizing it as energizing the “inner body” Eckhart is always suggesting we divert our attention towards.  I also now  recognize what I sensed as soaring free and everywhere present on the morning of my FILs death was this eternal spirit embodied as what Eckhart calls the inner body, an energy form that is our individuation of the Divine one source of all that is - even stones and rocks have this conscious energy.  That is the reason that my FIL and his death came into my mind the first morning I meditated to the sound of this music.

It could definitely go on longer than the Oprah class.  I am wondering what the net effect will be 5 or 10 yrs from now.  There is no doubt in my mind that there will be one and I am excited to realize I am a very real part of it.

I am also thinking there will be a later The Power of Now thread because the content is very similar but there is some additional content there I haven't found so far in the A New Earth book.

Oh thanks so much Deb for the access info to the music. I am a complete illiterate about getting music from the web, but I think my nephew or my Twin Flame can coach me and this might just be the kick in the pants to get me going into that learning curve….

Actually I have no idea what my spirit desires from the “on Oprah” bit. I was just teasing about the Harbinger. Then again, my book on the evolution of sexuality-consciousness has a lot of popular potential, even though a somewhat esoteric even academic book…..

You said
what I sensed as soaring free and everywhere present on the morning of my FILs death was this eternal spirit embodied as what Eckhart calls the inner body, an energy form that is our individuation of the Divine one source of all that is…

Exactly. Exactly my sensory-perceptual-conceptual experience of it, moment to moment. And pretty much exactly what my Tantric work aims at making accessible to people. I conceptualize that the “inner body” is simply a slower vibration of, or a denser condensation of, the “free and everywhere” spirit-energy-consciousness. Thank you for your beautiful worded description of the relationship.

Tantra is far vaster in scope of teachings, practices, and possible experiences than ecstatic dancing, but includes some of the aspects of such dancing… And my own version of Tantra is somewhat divergent or heretical…. sigh. I never buy anything without custom-fitting it, apparently…. LOL !!!!

Enjoyed traveling “with” you on your frog experiences. Made me smile….

Re: Suffering

debyemm said Apr 3, 2008, 8:22 AM:

It is interesting that in the Class/Chapter # 5 regarding the pain body, I find myself suffering much.  First, there is this ludicrious, okay I think it is anyway, policy of Earthlink, our satelitte access provider, to limit our access for downloads.  This means it is impossible to EVER download a single Class except between the hours of 3-6am (during which time we are allowed this brief window for unlimited access).

I know only too well because I exceeded it with the very first class and my fumbling attempts as a new iPod user to get a download (which caused at times 3 downloads - audio, video and iPod - to attempt simultaneously).  This lack of understanding and technical skill; impaired the upgrade of our computer system, which required many downloads, all of which went incredibly slow because of restricted access, caused in part by my participation in the A New Earth class.  On Tues night, I set up the download for Class 5 (snippets of which I had watched real time on Mon night, tolerating the poor quality).  I had thought I would listen to it, while driving my MIL home from St Louis last night, as she usually dozes (though last night she stayed awake the whole way).

So, I started it during the night, not wanting to shut down our satelitte access for our business.  The penalty for exceeding is restricted speed, which messes up all kinds of functions.  In the morning, I saw the download was complete.  However, for reasons beyond me as a novice with an iPod, it failed to synchronize and disappeared from availability on my iTunes window.  Determined to have it for the 2 hr drive home, I threw all caution to the wind and tried to download at 8am anyway.  Just over half-way through, Earthlink shut down our access for exceeding the limit and our business could not even complete an international Fed-Ex shipment because of it (which anyway, turned out to be improperly packaged and should not have been shipped, when I was trying unsuccessfully to do so).  The difficulties with Fed-Ex caused me to run late in getting away and so, my partner told me just to drop trying and then, he discovered the problem with the packing himself.  Still, I left the office feeling very depressed for having been so self-centered and without the Class 5 download I had hoped to have.

Unbelievably, we arrived at the theater early.  During the performance of Ella (about Ella Fitzgerald), I was moved by the issues of her infertility and relationship with her sister, who died young of a heart attack.  My thinking mind began to dwell on losing my own sisters and then jumped to how would I ever cope with the loss of [a] my husband and necessary business partner, how could I ever pick up the pieces? or keep the business going without him?, to [b] the possibility of my whole life being turned upside down by the loss of husband and sons in some tragic accident.

Wow, I was sobbing throughout the second half of the performance.  Is this what happens as we become aware of the Ego?  When I tried to call my husband at 8pm to tell him we were headed home, I got no answer.  My mind was having difficulty removing fears that something had happened to them because I knew they were traveling to a contractor's facility 1 hr away on a 2 lane curvy road.  Finally, at around 9:30pm, I reached them and felt foolish for the worry.

So, at 2:45am this, I drug myself out of bed to start the download again.  At 90% complete, an error occured and the download failed.  I knew better than to try it again this morning.  It will have to wait for tonight.  Anyway, I am needing to read Chap 6 (yesterday, at Whole Foods in St Louis, I also bought The Power of Now book to go with the unabridged CD version I've been listening to).  I feel a cold coming on top of one that I haven't entirely recovered from and have had too little sleep all week.

Wow ! ! !

Dear me, Deb, we have to get your immune system in better shape. What the heck is going on? Sometimes of course, it's just being around schoolchildren !!!!!

I've heard Byron Katie say that when something goes “wrong” she gives thanks and regards herself as having been “saved” from some unpleasantness, even if it looks as if there is current unpleasantness. Thus, the packing and shipping incident. You were “saved.”

I wouldn't put too much stock in the specifics about what you were fearing or crying about, at the theatre. Your painbody is up for healing, and you are almost certainly re-experiencing OLD pains, as part of their healing process, but attributing them to current situations. this happens often with me.

The important thing is to let the body do what the body needs to do, cry, whatever. I think you are doing that. It is not current “over-emotionality,” you are actually releasing, permanently, some old pains. Wonderful !!!!!!!!

I will say I suspect these are not “colds” at all but physical detoxes accompanying the emotional detoxes. The symptoms of detoxing are the same as a cold: runny nose, sore throat, achy, tired, stuffy. Maybe even some skin symptoms.  I know all this from loooong personal experience, and having seen these “colds” triggered in people who have received energy healings.

A strong immune system helps even with detox though. My recommendations to hasten detox are:

–as much water as you can stand
–walking, straight and flat though, so that you can swing your elbows as much as possible. This pumps the upper body lymph glands, as well as lower body ones, and that's the system creating the misery, and what you need to focus on, keeping lymph moving.
–a bit of extra protein, vitamin C, and chlorophyll and milk thistle, all of which aid the liver to detox.
–Avoid hard-to-digest foods, or any foods you are sensitive to, and avoid as many chemicals as you can, for the duration
–Deep breathing, including yogic cleansing breaths: deeply in to the max, hold, deeply out to the max.

Based on my interpretations, that's what I recommend.

I dunno about the downloading challenges. Nothing to offer about that, as of now. Sometimes we do seem to arrange for tests of our patience or equanimity/unconditional peace, mebbe that is relevant.

Love, OM

OM,

I love the heck out of you.  My life is ever so much more fun with you present in it.  I wrote a bit more about this illness in the Class 5 thread but I have to agree with you and I like the idea of it being a physical detox and/or physical “recovery” - the later my take on it.  It caught my attention, and those around me, though they did not suspect that I was “faking” it because I certainly wasn't, I was totally flattened.  Yet, there was no resistance to that in me in the least.  In fact, I was grateful that my circumstances weren't fighting with my desire to simply cocoon.  I went very deep inside and interestingly, my mind was totally empty - no thoughts - even the noises from outside could only penetrate momentarily before receeding from my attention entirely.

So, I am happy you have written thus.  Yes, I “knew” it was un-ordinary.  It started like a cold - runny nose, sneezing, just feeling awful, then the aches and chills started and I thought, oh no, not just a cold, some kind of virus.  But then the passage of it was so very quick.  It surprised me and my husband and MIL.  How could I be so obviously very ill and recover so very quickly?

And yes, I wasn't embarassed about the crying at the theater or bothered over associating the stories emotions with feelings laced with personal details, people I love and care about, perhaps feel some guilt over not being in more contact with.  Interestingly, the illness began that very evening.  My MIL asking me if I was OK on the way home, a little stuffy which was bothering me, but not what I would have thought another would notice.

I haven't had my daily hike for 3 days and I was wondering if I should do that this morning.  You've convinced me that is precisely what I need to do today.  I think instead of listening to Tolle's The Power of Now, I'll listen to Kelly Howell's Brain Sync, that always perks me up and I haven't listened to it in a long time.

The downloading challenges?  I don't think there is any huge, hidden issue.  The technology doesn't quite meet our ability to use it yet.  That's all.  It will catch up in time.  The satelitte company has indicated to me that they are aware that it is deficit but have been unable to negotiate with their satelitte provider increased capacity.  We could change companies but there are email address and website hosting issues in play as well.

Deb, as before–OM speaks as I feel as well- re colds helping you to rid the body of toxins. But she's also brought in points about liver detox that I didn't think of [though am doing it myself with “liver health”- an ayurvedic formulation which is sold in India as Liv52].

I would recommend you reading Dr Christianne Northrup's book on Menopause for the pain body and how to deal with it.  On the other hand, perhaps I would not recommend any other book for you right now. One point that sticks out from a talk I heard by Dr N is what I wanted to convey-at every menstrual cycle, our pain body comes up for review; and we need to take time to nurture ourselves, and help to release it. Else it keeps building up till it comes home to roost at our age. [Much resonance there for me!]

Re Download problems--when I can't do something I'm very keen to do, I take it as my guides/higher self  trying to get my attention.

Please see what resonates in what follows, and let the rest flow away:

1.Click just once to start a download, then do those breathing exercises that OM suggested, while waiting. Also, clear all thought at that time, with white light, to clear the mind as well. I do it as a bringing in light, as I breathe in, and letting out worry/tension/anxiety/fear etc. at least for 3 breaths; till I can feel: I breathe in light, and breathe out light. You can visualize the breath/light suffusing all your energy bodies while holding the breath, during OM's exercise.

2. If the download refuses to happen, call in guides to help while holding the thought that nothing happens that is not for the highest good.Thank you guides, for showing me what i don't need to do right now.” while breathing out for as long as you can; a deep cleansing breath. The inbreath happens automatically. Perhaps you have already read much of others' words; and need to process or speak with your own voice.

3. This enables you, your essential self,  to have the space to look at the pain/fear body that is being loosened from you, ready to be released. When ego looks at the pain body, it is overwhelmed. When the expanded self looks, it is full of compassion, and in that look, the pain body dissolves.

In loving light
Meenakshi

Meenakshi,

Wow, I take Liv52, having done that for a few years, along with another liver support, a Dandelion-Milk Thistle blend plus some Probiotics (I have a good one from Japan) and one more called Super-GI Cleanse.  I also have unsweetened Cranberry Juice (Mountain Sun makes a good one without grape or apple juice) diluted with water to which I add SweetLeaf Stevia which includes Inulin (a soluble fiber) to sweeten it.  To this I add one tsp of Yerba Prima Psyllium Husks and a packet of Emergen-Cs.  I also drink 2 tbsp of Lemon Juice concentrate in warm water every morning.  Beyond that we are totally commited to organic foods.  I stay fairly de-toxed but that is not to say some products don't still build up.

I became very aware of my liver due to an infection about 8 yrs ago and quit drinking alcohol entirely.  Last year I got very good news of an unprecedented drop (90%) in the infection and I have spent the last year believing in that good news without attachment.  I will see my dr (who only monitors, not treats, my condition as I have chosen thus far to co-exist without fear, simply knowing it is there) in a week or two and I hope, without attachment, for - at the least - confirmation that the previous news was valid.  I have let “it” know that I am ready to say good-bye and allow it to leave my life, having learned the lessons inherent in it and no longer needing it for that purpose.  I appreciate my liver consciously, from time to time, for doing the wonderful work that it does.

Maybe two years or more ago, I embraced a diet called Fat Flush by Anna Louis Gittleman that is very liver conscious and detox oriented and lost 30 lbs.  I must admit that I am 10+ up since this last fall when weight went on very quickly, owing I believe to a thyroid related metabolic imbalance.  My thyroid was removed almost 30 yrs ago, which I regret but accept - as the best course that was understood at the time but in this day would not be the treatment of choice.

Now Menopause was really not something I experienced very strongly.  I remember no more than a handful of hot flashes before I conceived my older son.  Due to hormone treatments to allow my 2 late-life pregnancies, as well as nursing each child for 12 mos +, I believe that the symptoms were minimized.  When those activities were over, I was fully in asymptomatic Menopause.  I take no hormones, have no symptoms, it is pretty much a non-issue that I accept easily.  I am also grateful it is so; because I know women for whom it is quite difficult.  It is akin to how easy it was for me to stop smoking 25 yrs ago.  I just did it and never looked back.

Re: A New Earth - Eckhart Tolle (New Course/New Teachers)

debyemm said May 31, 2008, 8:34 AM:

A friend of mine forwarded this information to me.  I thought some of you, who have been following along here, would also be interested.  I've signed up and will be incorporating it into our class/course here as time permits.

The information follows -

I'd like to invite you to experience, as my gift to you, a FREE online course I've reated.Mastering Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now.

So many people have told me that they loved Eckhart Tolle's books (The Power of Now and A New Earth) and his online presentations with Oprah, but have had trouble actually PRACTICING (and in some cases, understanding) what Tolle talks about.

To solve that problem, I decided to get together several of the most amazing awakened teachers I know to help you understand what Tolle is talking about and help you begin practicing and embodying what he is teaching, right now.

In this FREE course (which you can share with as many people as you want), six world-famous spiritual teachers and I will discuss what you can do right now to experience
the spiritual awakening described by Eckhart Tolle in The Power of Now, A New Earth, and his online lessons with Oprah.

I've chosen teachers who I know embody the awareness Tolle is talking about, and who are masters at teaching it:

* Zen master Genpo Roshi, creator of the Big Mind process, a method for quickly experiencing profound transcendent states of awareness (what Tolle calls Presence) usually taking decades to master.

* Ken Wilber, world-famous philosopher, author, spiritual teacher, and founder of Integral Institute, Integral Life, and the Integral Spiritual Center.

* Renowned spiritual teacher and meditation master, Diane Hamilton.

* Enlightenment teachers, authors, and workshop leaders, Saniel Bonder and Linda Groves-Bonder.

* Sally Kempton, Yoga Journal columnist and one of today's most insightful and experienced teachers of meditation and spiritual growth.

* And me! (Bill Harris of the Centerpointe Research Institute)

Among the many things you'll learn from these amazing teachers:

* The transformational power of the Now and how you can experience it.

* Gettting out of your mind and into the Now.

* What Eckhart Tolle calls Presence, and how to access it.

* Using your body to enter the Now.

* The source of suffering and emotional pain, and how to end it.

* Transforming fear into peace.

* Why Time is an illusion, and how it keeps you from the Now.

* How you can step out of the world of Problems..

* How to free yourself from unhappiness.

* The power of Now and relationships.

* Finding your purpose.

* Plus, keys to awakening Eckhart Tolle didn't mention.

* And much more.

You'll enjoy six weekly 60 to 90 minute audio lessons, one each week for six weeks. Each lesson is an unedited and spontaneous conversation with me and a world-famous
spiritual teacher who embodies and teaches the awakened spiritual awareness Eckhart Tolle discusses in his best-selling books, The Power of Now and A New Earth, and in his
online lessons with Oprah Winfrey.

These lessons contain additional explanation and practical suggestions you can use right now to awaken to who you really are and create a life of happiness and inner peace.

I thought I'd have to charge a significant amount of money for this course, but when the other teachers volunteered their time and expertise, I quickly changed my mind. Oprah has put an enlightened teacher on television in front of millions of people. This is a hugely positive event
in the history of the world.

A way of living that, up to now, has been discussed in just a few subcultures such as Integral Institute, Centerpointe, and a few other communities, is now in full view of popular culture.

This is a huge opportunity for the world–and for you.

I want as many people as possible to experience this information, so I–and the other teachers–are giving this information away, as our gift to the world.

Please don't miss this opportunity to bring The Power of Now into your life. Register for these lessons right away.

You can download them to your iPod or other device, or listen online. You'll also get a handsome transcript of each lesson making it easier to review and master the information
it contains.

As you'll soon discover, this course is unlike anything else you've ever experienced. You really can live from the place Tolle talks about–the Now moment. When you do, everything changes.

With these six amazing awakened teachers, I want to show you how.

To enroll, and to immediately begin experiencing your first lesson–again, at no charge whatsoever, as our gift to you–just go to: http://www.masteringthepowerofnow.com/.

And please tell EVERYONE you know about this course. Open your address book and send this email to everyone. This is something we really want to spread around the world.

One of the joys, when I visited my parents in NM (that is, after my mom returned from her rush trip to the hospital to acquire the 2nd stent in 2 mos) was to discover that my mom is really into this book.  She’s on her 3rd reading of a book borrowed from a neighbor.

She had downloaded some of the Bill Harris programs that came out after the Oprah class.  She had trouble becoming part of the Oprah webclass series (I shared that I had done all of it and much of the content is here but still unfinished).  I showed her how to get transcripts.  I offered to load her my iPod - which remains fully loaded with the classes and the Bill Harris interviews related to them.  She seemed to prefer just having the written transcript (I have all of them and they are a great resource).

It was my mom who originally introduced me to Science of Mind by pointing to a shelf full of magazines in her home, during a difficult time in my life (I was only in my 20s).  Truly, she probably didn’t know what to do with me - I was way out in lah-lah land, mostly driven by a sincere desire for spiritual growth and no guidance in pursuing such.  She said, “Just open a magazine to any page, it will help you”.

Someone recently told me I come from a genetic line of healers.  That may be so.  I know I come from a line of spiritually motivated women - my mom being a genetic link but as an orphan, who knows what her line is/was?
