Science of Mind Magazine Daily Guide for 7/05/08

By Rev. Dr. Ruth Deaton

LOVE

As you focus on the presence within, it will begin to reveal itself to you.  It is a feeling of pure love and bliss, and it is perfection.

The Secret

All is Love and yet all is Law.  Love, is the impelling force and Law executes the will of Love.

Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind, page 323

IN love songs, the word “love” is frequently used to rhyme with the word “above.”  In doing so it puts the idea of love “out there” somewhere.  The idea of an enduring kind of love becomes romanticized, and we can start to lose sight of the reality of love.

Love is not an emotion-love is a state of being.  A woman expressed her anger upon discovering that the man she loved was promiscuous.  However, as she worked through her anger, she realized that she had put a sense of proprietorship on her love.  Of course she didn't condone his unfaithfulness, yet she could see how much she had depended upon her “idea” of love to feel authentic.

When she came to the powerful realization that love was independent of any one person loving her, she took stock of her life.  “There is only the unconditional love of God for me that can never betray me,” she declared.  She claimed herself as being enough; she purchased a new home and soon thereafter she accepted an opportunity for a new career.  From the seeming ashes of disappointment came forth new blessings.  The qualities she came to love about herself dramatically changed her lifestyle.

affirmation

Freedom is priceless.  I am free to choose my experience of love today.  I keep my focus on my good.

Thank you for this; this is timely. I guess you could say God's love has been transferred through this message of inspiration to me; it's confirmation of God's blessings.

Bless you. sherri

I Share the Gifts of God

What a wonderful thought this is, that the very fountain of Life flows open and free, that the gifts of heaven and earth are so beautifully bestowed upon all who receive them. But there is another thought for us to consider. If God, or Life has already made the gift, then God, the Supreme and Perfect One, must wait for our acceptance of this gift. Perhaps we err in that we do not expect to share the gifts of God. Perhaps we are bound by the thought that we are not good enough to accept the gifts of the Kingdom of Good or that we have not developed enough spiritually to appreciate them. Too often we feel that these gifts are withheld, and so we do not live in an enthusiastic and confident expectation of sharing with the Infinite. What a wonderful thought it is that we actually share the Infinite in the boundless gifts of Life.

Today I consciously share in the gifts of Life. I open my whole thought and my whole being to the divine influx. I empty myself of everything that denies this good I so fervently desire. I establish my mind expectancy, a feeling that all the good there is must belong to everyone who will take it. I am receiving the Divine gift right now. I am entering into the spiritual inheritance that Life has willed that every person should possess. Today I am seeing the gift of Life coming to me from every source, and even as it comes into my outstretched hands, uplifted to receive it, I enjoy the gift and pass it on. Freely I give everything I have, blessing the gift as it passes through me to others, that it may be multiplied in their experience and in God’s good way come back again to me.

365 Tao (by Deng Ming-Dao) # 186

Point

                    Make the mind
                    A single point.

The key to any meditation is to concentrate the mind into a single point.  There are many methods for doing this, from singing, to listening to holy words, to contemplative procedures.  But the end result is the same: to focus our minds sharply.

A point has a definite position in space but neither size nor shape.

A point marks an actual place in time, such as a point of departure.

A point is the very essence of something, as in the point of an idea.

A point is a coordinate for navigation.

A point is the dominant center, as in the principal point of perspective.

A point determines our outlook, as in point of view.

Once the mind is made into a single point, it takes on the above attributes.  In contrast, a mind that is not focused is dispersed over a wide area.  Its thoughts are scattered, its energies are in disarray, and it cannot move clearly in any direction.  It is at the mercy of a thousand influences and is easily disoriented.  The result is confusion, ignorance, unhappiness, and helplessness.  A mind that is clearly focused, however, receives all things and can abide in utter tranquility.  It is no exaggeration to say that its world revolves around it.  It no longer has to chase after all that appears before it.

AT LAST

Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2

Gradually a conviction dawns that God is all there is, and as this conviction grows, the work is done more easily, and with a greater degree of acceptance… a growing spiritual atmosphere comes into it.
The Science of Mind, page 309

“AT last my love has come along.”  These words to an old rhythm and blues tune, “At Last,” were recorded in the 1960s by a legendary artist, Etta James.  She adds these words, “My lonely days are over, and life is like a song.”  That same exuberance for life is ours to have and to live throughout eternity when we turn ourselves to that unconditional lover within.  Ernest Holmes reminds us of the gradual conviction that dawns within us that God is all there is.  At last!  That which we are seeking is actually seeking us as well.  It is that moment in life when living becomes an orchestral symphony.  The brass, woodwinds, percussion, and string instruments all read the same melodic and harmonious symphony of musical rapture.  We, too, are each significant parts of the whole, playing our unique and independent parts in the orchestra of life to simultaneously effect stability and change in the world.  At last my life has voluntarily aligned itself with the One Power, One Presence, and One Intelligence.  The woodwinds of chance push me to and fro; however, I stand firm in the faith that all is in Divine order.  Follwing a percussive beating of challenging events, I rise again vibrating with joy, traansformed and renewed.

Affirmation
Even through the mundane tasks for daily living, I surrender myself to the infinite possibilities of atonement.  I rise again vibrating with joy, transformed and renewed.  At last!

A Year With Rumi by Coleman Barks

The Tree of Awe

How does part of the world leave the world ?
How can wetness leave water ?

Don't try to put out a fire by throwing on
more fire.  Don't wash a wound with blood.

No matter how fast you run, your shadow
more than keeps up.  Sometimes it's in front.
Only full, overhead sun diminishes your shadow.

But that shadow has been serving you.
What hurts you blesses you.

Darkness is your candle.
Your boundaries are your quest.

I can explain this, but it would break the glass cover
on your heart, and there is no fixing that.

You must have shadow and light source both.
Listen, and lay your head under the tree of awe.

When from that tree, feathers and wings
sprout on your soul, be quieter than a dove.
Don't open your mouth for even a cooooo.

Pray for Others
I am praying for you today.

When praying with a family member, friend, minister, or chaplain, I feel the reassurance of Divine Love. These precious moments are reminders that we are not alone.

As I pray for and with others, the bonds between us are strengthened. We are one with God and each other. We feel a connection to God's infinite love–a love that enfolds the world. My prayers extend to those in other circumstances, other communities, and other nations.

One prayer at a time, one person at a time, I am making a difference in the world. Praying is an honor and a joy, blessing me and those for whom I pray.

“I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray with the mind also; I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will sing praise with the mind also.”–1 Corinthians 14:15
