debyemm I moved the Rumi Quote to Related Philosophies, Books & Authors. The Rumi's in the Daily Guides are related to a book by Coleman Barks that breaks down some of the poems into daily readings. I think a thread devoted only to ANY quotes by Rumi anyone might want to post is a good idea. I have a new Coleman Barks book of more Rumi translations that will probably fit into there in the future. (2 months ago)

Science of Mind Magazine Daily Guide for 7/06/08

By Rev. Dr. Ruth Deaton

RECEIVING

Do what you love.  If you don't know what brings you joy, ask, “What is my joy?”  As you commit to your joy, you will attract an avalanche of joyful things.

The Secret

All the Peace there is, all the Presence there is, all the Love there is, all the Peace there is, is Omnipresent.  Consequently, the Infinite is in and through man and is in and through everything.

Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind, page 323

WHEN we are meditating, savoring wordless joy, that is love.  When we are spontaneously tickled by something we see, that is love.  Perhaps today you can look for love in all the right places—which is everywhere.

God's love is abundant and always available to us.  To receive it, we merely have to open ourselves to it.  So many people never know this aspect of God, although masters and avatars throughout history have given the same message:  God is in love—love is God.  Our only responsibility is to receive love by opening our minds and hearts to it.

When we accept love it fills us, and miracles begin to happen.  Once we receive the love of God our own hearts overflow, which allows us to give it forth.  When we are not filled with love our cups are empty, and it is difficult to give love to others.  Nothing comes out of an empty cup.  Today build into your awareness the idea of looking for love in everything, including yourself.

affirmation

Freedom is priceless.  I am free to choose my experience of God's love today.  I keep my focus on my good.

I Am Comforted by the Promises of God

The bible is filled with Divine Promises, revealed through the spiritual intuition of great souls. We are promised long life and happiness, riches and abundance, health and success. The Bible contains more promises than any other book ever written and tells us to accept that these promises are not vague, uncertain things. More particularly it tell us that these promises are being fulfilled right now, in the day in which we live. “Beloved, now are we the sons of God.” We need not wait only on our acceptance. This acceptance is a mental as well as a spiritual act; it is the mind accepting its highest hope in complete confidence, placing its entire reliance on a Power greater than itself.

Today I accept the Divine Promise. I accept them with the simplicity of a child, with the joy of one who receives his good in grateful acknowledgment of “the all-sustaining beauty.” I accept Divine guidance watching over me. I accept the enveloping presence of the Life that sustains me. I accept the beauty and the peace of this Presence. I accept happiness and success. I accept health and wholeness. I accept love and friendship. I realize that what rightfully belongs to me also rightfully belongs to everyone else. Therefore, I promise myself and all others to live as though the Kingdom of God were at hand for all people. I accept a good beyond my fondest imagination, beyond my greatest dream, knowing that this good that I accept will flow through me into complete expression. He shall give to me even more abundantly than I have asked, for the promises of God are as certain as life, as immutable as law, as personal as the air I breathe. Today I accept my good.

365 Tao (by Deng Ming-Dao) # 187

Artist

                    Facing blank paper
                    Is an artist's terror.

When an artist creates, he or she is like a shaman.  Inspiration comes as a gift.  Those who follow Tao are the same.  Their awareness of Tao is not something they have cleverly formulated, nor is it something that they possess.  Tao comes to them like a gift.  That is why the arts and Tao are so closely allied:  The act of receiving and expressing is the same.

Just as an artist dreads not being able to make art, so too does one who follows Tao dread not feeling Tao.

There are many times when we are called upon to be creative: an athlete on the field, a lecturer before an audience, a musician on stage, a cook at the stove, a parent with a child.  How do we keep the channel open?  Some people try by maintaining tidy and regular lives, others by being constantly active.  We are all different, and there is no right or wrong.  The only thing that counts is feeling Tao in your own life and maintaining the feeling as much of the time as possible.  If you find those special things that are latent in you and learn to express them, then you will know Tao.

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH

The diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials.
Chinese Proverb

The Christ Spirit Comes to all alike, proclaiming Itself as the Son of God, even unto the humble in Spirit.
The Science of Mind, page 368

A BRIGHT, young film starlet was told by her manager, “Darling, you are a diamond in the rough.”  He realized that beneath the surface of superficiality there was a clear, resilient, durable individual of greath worth.  It was his job to create opportunities for her professional growth.  She needed to develop visual poise, stage presence, and social grace.  Her cooperation and willingness to learn the traits of the industry were fledgling stepping stones.

Let's think of ourselves as diamonds in the rough.  We are made in the image and likeness of God; clear, clean, resilient, durable, and precious.  Our lives are nestled in the diamond mines of a spiritual universe, waiting to be unearthed by the master miner, God the Good.

Every challenge breaks us away from the comfort zones of familiarity.  The spiritual laws of the universe gently chisel away our rustic surfaces of disbelief, duality, and error thought.  The master miner lovingly oversees the excavation and careful exposure of the diamond's surface that shines so brilliantly when exposed to the light.  We are also diamonds in the rough who are gently exposed to the light of truth through everyday living, everyday loving, and everyday forgiving.  Let's face it, a diamond is only a piece of carbon that stuck with it.

Affirmation
Just as the diamond sparkles, shimmers, and expresses clarity, I radiate in the light of truth.  I exemplify God expressing as me!

I like this comparison. It's because I resonate with “crystal energy”.

Every challenge breaks us away from the comfort zones of familiarity.”

That sentence somehow made me think of Cheyennes recent beautiful blog post. Just passing it on.

A Year With Rumi by Coleman Barks

Emptiness

Now I return to the text,

          And He is with you,
          wherever you are.
                    (Qur'an 57:4)

But when have I ever left it ?

Ignorance is God's prison.
Knowing is God's palace.

We sleep in God's unconsciousness.
We wake in God's open hand.

We weep God's rain.
We laugh God's lightning.

Fighting and peacefulness
both take place within God.

Who are we then
in this complicated world-tangle,
that is really just the single straight line
down at the beginning of ALLAH ?

Nothing.
We are emptiness.

This feels so right, so on. What bliss to no longer have to fight to keep fighting and peacefulness apart, as occurring in different realms, only one being of god. No, all is of god, *begins* with god, *ends* with god. There is no not-god.

Wherever I am, God is, and all is well. (from Daily Word posting below)

All Is Well
Wherever I am, God is, and all is well.

As surely as light follows the dark of night, I awake to the day knowing in my heart and soul that all is well.

If at any time today the order and harmony of some aspects of my life seem uncertain, I clear my mind of all concern. There is no need to worry. Just as season follows season, wave follows wave, and sunrise follows sunset, all is well.

I honor myself for the perfection that I am as one of God's creations. I know that I am in the right place at the right time. All that I do today and every day is blessed with God's goodness.

With gratitude, I affirm: Wherever I am, God is, and all is well.

“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast!”–Psalm 108:1
