debyemm I moved the Rumi Quote to Related Philosophies, Books & Authors. The Rumi's in the Daily Guides are related to a book by Coleman Barks that breaks down some of the poems into daily readings. I think a thread devoted only to ANY quotes by Rumi anyone might want to post is a good idea. I have a new Coleman Barks book of more Rumi translations that will probably fit into there in the future. (2 months ago)

Science of Mind Magazine Daily Guide for 7/08/08

By Rev. Dr. Ruth Deaton

PEACE

Your thoughts determine your frequency, and your feelings tell you immediately what frequency you are on.

The Secret

It would be a wonderful experiment if the world would try to solve all of its problems through the power of Spirit.

Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind, page 334

DOES peace in your life simply mean no conflict?  Or could peace mean dealing calmly with stress, challenges and situations that occur in daily living?  How does one evolve an attitude of peacefulness?  Although the concept of peace seems simple, the inherent nature of peace eludes us.  I believe it's because most of us have been taught separateness or judgment.

Thus we must first unlearn some attitudes we have always had about peace, in order to replace them with those that resonate as good and true.  There is a divine goodness inherent in each person, in nature and in every situation.

Tuning into this divine goodness, asking it to reveal its wisdom in one's self or in any situation, helps toward experiencing inner peace.  It may not be easy, which is why peace seems so elusive at times.  However, peace, reveals harmony and harmony is the natural order of the universe.  Let your personal universe be based in peace.

affirmation

Freedom is priceless.  I am free to live in peace within myself.  I keep my focus on my inner peace.

I Speak the Truth of God

We all wish to speak the truth, but have we realized that every time we make a claim about ourselves that is different from the claim we would make about God, we are falling into the error of denying the Divine Presence in our experience? God is Truth and Truth is God. We also are included in this Divine and Perfect Unity. Therefore, every claim we make about God, the Living Spirit, should equally be made about ourselves because we live and move and have our being in this infinite Truth and Presence. To say that we are poor or sick or weak or unhappy is to deny God. God is not poor; God is not sick; God is not weak; God is not unhappy. We must, then, make every endeavor, in simplicity and in truth, to identify our personal lives with that One Life that forevermore proclaims: “ I am that I Am.” There is nothing separate from this one I Am.

Today I say to myself: I am one with the Truth of God. I speak this Truth and proclaim it to be the reality of my experience in what I call “little” and what I call “big.” In the simplest and the most complex things I recognize the truth—changeless, permanent, and eternally manifesting Itself. Therefore, I know the Truth about myself. I know the Truth about everything I do. I know the Truth about everyone I meet. I know the Truth about every situation in which I find myself. This Truth is not only perfection, it is also power. It is not only presence, it is also action. Therefore, the truth and the Power and the Presence and the Action of the Living Spirit flow through everything I do, say, and think. I do know the Truth and the Truth I know frees me and keeps me free.

Victory

Can you be both martial and spiritual ?
Can you overcome your ultimate opponent ?

To be martial requires discipline, courage, and perseverance.  It has nothing to do with killing.  People fail to look beyond this one narrow aspect of being a warrior and so overlook all the other excellent qualities that can be gained from training.  A warrior is not a cruel murderer.  A warrior is a protector of ideals, principle, and honor.  A warrior is noble and heroic.

A warrior will have many opponents in a lifetime, but the ultimate opponent is the warrior's own self.  Within a fighter's personality are a wide array of demons to be conquered:  fear, laziness, ignorance, selfishness, egotism, and so many more.  To talk of overpowering other people is inconsequential.  To actually overcome one's own defects is the true nature of victory.  That is why so many religions depict warrors in their iconography.  These images are not symbols for dominating others.  Rather, they are symbols of the ferocity and determination that we need to overcome the demons within ourselves.

DISCERNING LIGHT

There is a doorway or an entrance through which the mind must pass on its way to spiritual realization.
Living the Scence of Mind, Ernest Holmes

The Divine Ideas stand back of all human thought, seeking entrance through the doorway of the mind.
The Science of Mind, page 491

PART of the inscription on the Statue of Liberty reads, “I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”  The lamp is lifted symbolically upon the golden door of opportunity.  It is the light of discernment which makes clear the way to right choices for the highest and best.  In Religious Science, we often affirm that when one door closes, another one opens.  The truth of this affirmation in phenomenal in its statement.  It is implied that only one door opens to us at a time.  In reality, many doors of opportunity open themselves to us for our conscious recognition.  We chose one door at a time.  As Dr. Ernest Holmes writes, “There is a doorway or an entrance through which the mind must pass on its way to spiritual realization.”  How can we know with certainty the door of greatest good?  The answer is simple.  It is the elevation of our lamps (i.e. the consciousness raising) through prayer and meditation on a regular basis.  We pass through the golden door with much certainty, spiritual confidence, and the realization of where we are and what it is we are to do in this life.  It becomes so clear that there can be no indecisiveness.  The focus, intent, and purpose are centered on God.  All is beautifully, rightly, and perfectly ordered in the human scheme of things when we maintain a single focus.

Affirmation
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.  That door is the right opportunity for me.  My discerning light of consciousness establishes and maintains a single focus on the Infinite to guide and direct my life through the doorway to spiritual realization.

A Year With Rumi by Coleman Barks

The City of Saba (1)

In the city of Saba there is a glut of wealth.
Everyone has more than enough.
Even the bathstokers wear gold belts.

Huge grape clusters hang down on every street
and brush the faces of the citizens.
No one has to do anything.

You can balance an empty basket on your head,
and it will fill by itself
with overripe fruit dropping into it.

Stray dogs stay in lanes
full of thrown-out scraps with barely a notice.

The lean desert wolf gets indigestion
from the rich food.  Everyone is
satiated with all the extra.

There are no robbers.  There is no energy
for crime, or for gratitude.
And no one wonders about the unseen world.

Right Time
I trust God for the answer to my prayer.

What can I do when I feel frustrated that something I want to happen is delayed or shows no sign of coming about? I take time for prayer.

Prayer is my quiet time, the time when I relax, breathe deeply, and open myself to divine inspiration. Through prayer, I prepare myself to be divinely guided in all ways.

If at any time during the day or night I begin to feel anxious or concerned, I take a God-moment and pray. As I do, I become peaceful and calm. Right now, in this moment, my attention is on what is true for me at all times: I am one with God.

Although the answer to my prayer may not be apparent right now, my faith assures me that it will become clear to me.

“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”–Romans 8:25
