Science of Mind Magazine Daily Guide for 7/10/08

By Rev. Dr. Ruth Deaton

GIVING MONEY

When you don't have enough (money) to give, start giving.  As you demonstrate faith in giving, the law of attraction must give you more to give.

The Secret

Thanksgiving—the motive power which attracts and magnifies the hidden potentialities of life.

Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind, page 637

IN the book, The Secret, the author clarifies the difference between giving and sacrificing.  When our heart is overflowing with a feeling of good, we are emitting a signal of plenty.  If we are contributing money from a feeling of sacrifice or need, we don't feel good.  We are only emphasizing a belief in insufficiency.

Books, seminars and teachings about abundance often emphasize the importance of giving.  The biblical term for giving is “tithing;” when we determine what percentage of our money we want to give to a spiritual source (church, person, inspirational organization), we should give it with a sense of well-being and joy, and a thankfulness for having it to give.

I have a friend who was constantly practicing the presence of plentiful supply, and giving a portion to her spiritual source.  She said that she didn't know where the money she received came from; “It just grows in my pocketbook.”

The reciprocity factor of abundance is based upon being joyful and thankful for the supply, identifying an entity to which to give a percentage of our good and then, giving thanks as we give the gift, knowing that God is our sufficiency.

affirmation

Freedom is priceless.  I am free from any idea of lack or neediness and know that as I give, so I receive.  I keep my focus on receiving and giving.

I Give Thanks for the Blessings of God

Have you and I had the faith to bless that which perhaps seemed so very small—a loaf of bread and a fish— and except it to become multiplied in our experience to such an extent that it would not only bless us but also bless everyone around us? We cannot help but believe that as Jesus broke the bread and blessed it, in his own mind he saw it multiplied and growing and flowing out to those around him. This is an example we should follow—to bless what we have, recognizing that it flows from a limitless source; we are merely using it and distributing it. There is always more. The limitless resources of the Spirit are at our command. The power of the Infinite is at our disposal. We have as much to use as we know how to take. But the taking is a thing of a thought, the will, the imagination. It is a thing of an inward feeling or interior awareness in that place where the mind has unified itself with the Living Spirit.

Today I bless everything I have. I bless everyone around me. I bless the events that transpire in my life, the conditions and situations that surround me. I bless everything that goes out and everything that comes in. I acknowledge an increase of right action in everything I do, say, or think. I bless myself and others, for we are all partakers of the same Divine nature, all living in the One Mind, all animated by the same Presence, all sustained by the One Power. “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me.” In joy and in love my blessing rests on everything. In confidence and in peace the blessing of God rest upon me.

Fields

                    Worship by cultivating nine fields:
                    Diet.  Herbs.  Clothing.  Recitation.
                    Movement.  Meditation.  Creativity.  Teaching.
                    And most important:  Compassion.

Worship is not a matter of making an obeisance to a god.  It is a matter of achieving godlike qualities in yourself.  This is done through the cultivation of nine areas:

[1]  Diet should be moderate, healthy, and of living foods.  If you want to be sustained, eat things that themselves sustained life.

[2]  Learn to use herbs, for they heal and maintain health.

[3]  Be moderate in your clothing; wear natural fibers.  What you wear is an expression of your state of mind.

[4]  Recitation includes prayer, song, chanting, and finally, the practice of silence.  What you say becomes reality.

[5]  Stretch, move, and exercise every day.  The universe moves; so too should the energy within your body.

[6]  Meditate every day - once in the morning and once in the evening, if possible.  Only then will you attain tranquility and triumph over your dilemmas.

[7]  Be creative.  Thus we contribute, and thus we elevate our souls.

[8]  Acquire a good education.  Treasure what you learn, and preserve it so that it may be passed on to others.  Never be selfish with what you know.

[9]  Above all, be compassionate.  This is a stand against all evil, and it opens your spirit.

People ask, “How can I worship properly?”  Cultivate these nine fields.

DON'T SAY ANYTHING

Be still and know that I am God.
Psalms 46:10

Make consciousness perceive that Substance is Spirit, Spirit is God, and God is all there is.
The Science of Mind, page 292

SOMEONE has so eloquently stated, “When you don't know what to do, don't do anything.”  It makes perfect sense; however, it is not the first response we have when things go amiss.  Our first impulse is to do something to make things right, normal, and establish equalibrium to the status quo.  It is not always necessary to actively respond because the urgency with which we act can add confusion to the already inflamed situation and incite more fear and anxiousness in those observers around us.

Psalms 46:10 invites us to “Be still and know that I am God.”  Take a breath in the moment and stand in your salvation, knowing that God is in charge of the situation even though an impending outcome is incomprehensible at the moment.  This is when your faith in God becomes the faith of God.

We are transformed by the prospective renewal of faith itself that becomes who we are at the core of our being and invigorates us as we simply stand still and become more of that God essence that we are in consciousness.

Affirmation
I am still and faithfully know that when I don't know what to do, I won't do anything.  I allow the guidance of pure Spirit to resonate in, through, and around me as the captivating essence of who I AM.

A Year With Rumi by Coleman Barks

The Mystery of the Moment

To the mind there is such a thing as news,
whereas to the inner knowing, it is all
in the middle of its happening.

To doubters, this is a pain.
To believers, it's gospel.
To the lover and the visionary,
it is life as it's being lived.

Faith
I am living in faith.

My faith stays with me throughout my day. Each meeting or encounter is a divine appointment. I am where I am meant to be to give and receive a blessing.

During the day, I may be a student, at other times a teacher, but always I am learning. As I connect with others, I focus on whatever benefits us mutually.

I may just “happen” to meet someone and learn of an opportunity that is perfect for me. Or in conversation, I may share information that is just what someone needed to hear.

Keeping my divine appointments each day, I am receptive to the myriad ways God works through people and circumstances to bless me. I am living in faith.

“Beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God.”–Jude 1:20-21
