I think a thread devoted only to ANY quotes by Rumi anyone might want to post is a good idea. I have a new Coleman Barks book of more Rumi translations that will probably fit into there in the future. (2 months ago)

December - Light

Divine Intelligence Directs My Faith and Makes
Perfect and Plain the Way Before Me

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery,
even the hidden wisdom,
which God ordained before the world unto our glory.
- 1 Corinthians 2:7-8

The person who is happy within, who rejoiceth within,
who is lillumined within, that Yogi,
becoming the Eternal,
goeth to the Peace of the Eternal.
- The Bhagavad-Gita

The hidden wisdom of God is the knowledge that we are one with the Divine Being.  This wisdom, which is hidden from us until we perceive our fundamental unity with Reality, is clearly revealed when we seek the Eternal in everything.  The masters who have penetrated the mystery of life that so often eludes the intellect are those who with utmost simplicity have found direct approach to the Supreme Reality at the center of their own soul.

The Bhagavad-Gita tells us that we must become the Eternal if we wish to enter into the peace of the Eternal.  This has an identical meaning with the saying of Jesus that we must be perfect even as God in us is perfect.  This calls for the recognition of the Spirit as an indwelling Presence, as well as overshadowing Power.  The road to self-discovery often calls for the clearing away of the underbrush of ignorance, fear, superstition, and a sense of isolation that has made us feel that we were unworthy, unholy, and lost.  In the divine providence of good, salvation is unnecessary but self-discovery is essential.  We do not save that which was lost; we merely discover that which needs to be found.

I know that God is within me and I know that this Divine Spirit is perfect.  I enter into Its peace and am secure in a sense of Its protection.  Love will guide and Intelligence will direct me.  The power of the Infinite will sustain and uphold, as well as direct.  The unerring judgment of Divine Intelligence directs my faith and makes perfect and plain the way before me.

Science of Mind Magazine Daily Guide for 12/04/07

By Rev. Ron Fox

BEING HUMAN?

The greatest experience is changing someone else's experience of life.

 Andre Agassi

We must not look afar to see the Christ, for He is ever near at hand.  He is always within us.

The Science of Mind, page 366

IN Matthew 5:8 it is written, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”  What does it mean to be pure of heart?  I think it means to be as loving, compassionate, caring, forgiving and tolerant as we can be; in other words, to try and be as Godlike as we can.  When we do this we recognize our connection with all life.  In essence we become one with everything.

Here's some fascinating research:  When we stick a pin in our finger certain cells in our brain light up.  When we see someone else get stuck, the same cells in our brain light up.  Thus, on some level, our brains don't make the distinction between self and others.

If we believe that we are all here by divine appointment it seems logical to conclude that we are here for a purpose.  We each have a mission.  I believe that to be human means to seek out that mission and live it.  We must be living the life we are called to live as best we can.

At the end of our life, according to a wonderful Hasidic story, we will not be asked if we were as great as Moses or other notables, but rather, did we have our own wisdom?  Did we have our own vision?  Were we genuinely and authentically ourselves?

affirmation

Today, I go within and allow the human and divine to merge.  I remember that I am God expressing in all Its wonder.

Science of Mind Text p. 477.5 - 479.3

The Light of the World (John 8:12)

“I am the light of the world.” Jesus was not referring to his human personality, but to the Principle inherent in generic man. They who follow this inner Principle shall have the light of life; for the Principle is life.

“I Am” has a dual meaning. It is both individual and universal. God was revealed to Moses as a great “I AM,” the Universal Cause, the Causeless or Self-existent One. Moses taught that “I AM” is the First Principle of all life, and the Law of cause and effect running through everything. The whole teaching of Moses is based upon the perception of this “First Principle”

Jesus said that he came, not to destroy the law of Moses, but to fulfill it. How could he fulfill it except by teaching the relationship of the universal “I Am” to the individual “I”? In all the sayings of Jesus, we find this thought brought out: that God in Universal Spirit and man is His image and likeness…an individualization of His eternity. Therefore, when we understand our own “I” we shall walk in that light which lights the world unto the perfect “I AM”.

We can consider this from another viewpoint. Man is the only self-knowing mind of which we are conscious. A self-knowing mind, of course, is one that is conscious of what it knows. Man, the only self-conscious being in this world, much be the light of the world. To know this and to understand why it is so, is to know that Truth which alone can make free. Truth is eternal and eternity is timeless, hence, if one know the Truth, he will never see death. Death has nothing to do with life everlasting, and is but an impatient gesture of the soul, wishing to rid itself of a body no loner useful.

*Love (John 13:34, 35)

Love is the central flame of the universe, nay, the very fire itself. It is written that God is Love, and that we are His expressed likeness, the image of the Eternal Being. Love is self-givingness through creation, the impartation of the Divine through the human.

Love is an essence, an atmosphere, which defies analysis, as does Life Itself. It is that which IS and cannot be explained; it is common to all people, to all animal life, and evident in the response of plants to those who love them. Love reigns supreme over all.

The essence of love, while elusive, pervades everything, fires the heart, stimulates the emotions, renews the soul and proclaims the Spirit. Only love knows love, and love knows only love. Words cannot express its depths or meaning. A universal sense alone bears witness to the divine fact: God is Love and Love is God.

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled (John 14:1)

“Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me.” His disciples were depressed, having an instinctive sense that Jesus was about to depart from them. They were filled with sadness. It was on the eve of his betrayal that he spoke these words, “Let not your heart be troubled,” with that calm certainty which has ever been given to the believing. He was not afraid. He had already plumbed the depths of human existence and penetrated into the beyond. He knew that he was an immortal being.

Our hearts are troubled over many things and our mental burdens often become unbearable. It seems, at times, as though a cup of bitterness were being held to unwilling lips, with the demand that they drink. Jesus, standing at the threshold of his greatest experience, foreknew that he would turn apparent defeat into glorious victory. From the calm depths of an undisturbed soul, he spoke words of comfort to those of lesser understanding.

He told them to believe in God, and because of their belief in God, to believe also in him. Again he is referring to the individual “I” as the outward manifestation of the Universal “I AM”. We are to believe in ourselves because we believe in God. The two are ONE. We are to know that passing events cannot hinder the onward march of the soul. The temporal imperfection of the human cannot dim the eternal integrity of the Divine.

I absolutely love the book of John…..in fact…its just about the only thing I read in the bible anymore….I was always drawn to it as a kid and when I finally sat down to read the bible it still ended up being my favorite part.  Seems as though, whenever I need some incouragement or uplifting words, I turn to the book of John.
So thanks for posting these excerpts!!!   Its just what I needed today!!!

365 Tao (by Deng Ming-Dao) # 338

Expression

          There's nothing to paint anymore.
We've seen everthing from the classical to
                     the absurd.
          There's nothing to write anymore.
As many books are shredded as read.
          There's nothing to sing anymore.
The once avant-garde is now background
                     music.

In a world where expression seems futile, it is hard to maintain creativity.  But creativity is a primal impulse.  Cave people painted on walls; everyone's house has some image on display.  Primitive scribes wrote records of their experiences; people still keep diaries.  Early shamans sang; we still live with music.  We cannot abandon creative expression in our daily lives, though it seems hard to come up with something new.

The only way to have fresh expression is to go deep within.  In a sense, today's extreme pluralism eliminates the obligation to do the same as others.  At one time, artists, priests, writers, musicians, and craftsmen were obligated to their feudal lords.  Today we are not constrained by hierarchical standards.  We are free to commune directly with our inner callings.

By coincidence, this mirrors a more sophisticated understanding of the divine.  We are no longer in a position of supplication with what is divine.  Rather, divinity is a quality from within ourselves.

I really enjoyed this daily guide.  I had never thought about it in this way - that humanity is achieving a more sophisticated understanding of the divine.  At least, some of humanity as seen in those who have come to Zaadz in general and to this pod specifically (though this pod is definitely not the only sophisticated understanding there is here at Zaadz).

I had not considered the freedom that comes with such multiplicity of people and with the extraordinary (in relative terms to the past) and effective method of information distribution as is represented by the internet.  Though all of this was plain to see, if the mind could only be turned in that direction.

Therefore, we have the obligation and the unique opportunity to have the freedom to truly be our authentic selves because it is clear that there is no one perfect way of being.  And yet, this idea is as old as the Tao Te Ching itself.

Isn't life just the most wonderful thing there is?  I was just reading something today about how all 5,000+ of our mothers, as recorded within the DNA of our genes, gives us access to all the accumulated wisdom of humanity and allows us to bring the best forward into the future as we co-create and modify the direction that humanity will express in the future.

SOM Magazine Daily Guide for 12/04/08

By Steven Van Meter, RScP

AS YOU BELIEVE

Therefore I say unto you, Anything you pray for and ask, believe that you will receive it, and it will be done for you.

Mark 11:24

Jesus summed up His whole philosophy in this simple statement:  “It is done unto you as you believe.”

The Science of Mind, page 37

THE law of attraction is one of the most powerful and life-altering forces in the universe, one of the necessary components of affirmative prayer or prayer treatment, and is a key to living a conscious life.  You are using the law of attraction all the time if you know it or not, just like the law of gravity.  Once you begin to learn how to use the law of attraction properly, it gets easier and easier to demonstrate what you really want!

There are various examples of this principle.  You get what you think about (positive and negative):  all forms of matter and energy are attracted to like vibration.  What you think about, you bring about; energy attracts like energy; everything draws to itself that which is like itself.

Here is one of the keys.  If we have a feeling of desire in our consciousness when we pray about something, the law of attraction matches that feeling by giving a greater feeling of desire, instead of the thing you are praying for.  When we pray affirmatively for a desired outcome, we must be clear to have the attitude and feeling nature of already experiencing the desired outcome and allow the law of attraction to match our belief.

affirmation

I truly believe and know my good, and I choose to embody that feeling right here, right now!

A Year With Rumi by Coleman Barks

Jars of Springwater

Jars of springwater are not enough anymore.
Take us down to the river.

The face of peace, the sun itself.
No more the slippery, cloudlike moon.

Give us one clear morning after another,
and the one whose work remains unfinished,

who is our work as we diminish,
idle, though occupied, empty, and open.

Environment

I act from the wisdom of God within me to bless the environment.
In quiet times of contemplation, I immerse myself in the presence of God and nourish my soul. Having given attention to the inner realm of my soul, I now focus on the world around me.
With purpose and meaning, I maintain my space in my home, yard, or workplace. My surroundings are a sacred environment because, wherever I am, I am on holy ground.
Whether in a city park, national forest, or my own backyard, I have a reverence for that place. I am aware of the good I bring to the environment and the good I receive from it.
I look to God and all that God has created for an environmental plan that is pure and fresh, life-enhancing and regenerating. I act from the wisdom of God within me to bless the environment.

“Then he said, 'Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.' “–Exodus 3:5
