The Fallacy of Emotions.

Fireballems said Nov 16, 2006, 7:35 PM:

you know emotions are these things we have, but can you really define them? I mean, how can you truly know what fear is? What love is? If you don’t know how other people actually feel. Because, as we all know, when you talk about emotions you aren’t always true. So can’t what one person thinks is love actually be hatred. Couldn’t emotions just be these fake things. I mean, what if they were actually not real. What if they have been created by society?

I don’t know. These kinds of things scare me sometimes. Because of, of course, of the idea of love.

I don’t know, as always. Emotions could just be this fallacy that society created to rationalize their existence. And I know, they have scientific basis for some of them: fear causes perspiration and so on, but still; what if?

I think our emotions are part of our spiritual selves, not something created by society.  Although society will have an effect upon our emotions and feelings.  Its quite easy to know how certan emotions are the same for individuals, for example being heartbroken over a relationship break up, when someone else is going through the same thing and we say i know exactly how you feel, that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach, the restlesness the bursting into tears. We say i know how you feel because we actually have felt this emotional sadness ourselves and do know exactly how it feels.  On the other hand we do not know or i personally do not know how it feels to be starving hungry because i have never been starving. However i have been angry, as has everyone at some point or another so we all know how that feels.  I think emotions are very important for our spiritual development, they help us learn, we do a bad thing we feel guilty, we have that feeling for a reason, they help us know right from wrong, you do something good you feel good, you do something bad you feel bad. Unless you are a psycopath of course then you dont feel anything at all. x
