Re: Next Wave in eBooks

I used to work for iUniverse, one of those “self-publishing” companies, and did a lot of software testing and quality control on e-books.  I wasn't impressed, and didn't see the appeal of reading on a computer screen or even a PDA.  Besides, e-book titles were mainly mainstream fiction and pop non-fiction, and most of the stuff I read is a bit more obscure.

If they've improved the technology, like Sony's eInk so you don't have to read this glowing screen for hours, then great, I might try it with a big enough library to chose from.  But, what about DRM and obsolescence?  Books always work, you just have to turn the pages.  And if I have to re-purchase my library every time I get a new computer or ebook reader, I'll go broke.

On the other hand, I move a lot and moving all these books is getting to be a pain…
