beloveds,
a month ago I came back to the sufi practice of dhikr. dhkr means to bring oneself closer to the beloved. I was introduced to it at St John the Divine's in Manhattan at Dances of Universal Peace.
Nuri one of the leaders called me beloved when I entered the dhikr space and it felt so good that I left and started calling everyone beloved (not to their hearing unless I knew they would grok it) and it felt so liberating and empowering. I had no space to judge them as other than beloved.
I work sometimes at the largest mall in the US and to call everyone I met in there beloved is awesome. now I feel it without even the words.

We have far to go Iljung
but you are doing your share!

There is a ubiquitous attitude of silence all around
Inaction is itself a kind of action
and most in the world do their part
in their active silence and estrangement
to silently whisper to everyone they meet “unloved”

Why not?

When we can give without strings attached
When we can learn to love all beings without conditions
then we multiply our effectiveness in the world
a thousand fold

What need we to smile
except that we are grateful for this precious life?
And if we can spread joy
by simply flexing our facial muscles
taking a mere pittance of our time and energy
why not become the vehicle for joy?

Why not?
When we smile
and then we see the face of the other begin to smile
is that not the very moment when 2 becomes 1?
Is that not when our ordinary boundaries are temporarily dissolved away?
Is that not when each of us have melted into the primordial, inexpressible universe?
Is that not love manifest?
