~KES Hi, I don't have time to mod any longer if the person running this can put me as just a group member that would be fine. It has been a fun learning curve! ~kes (7 months ago)

Industry News: Get a “Second Life”

The goal of designers of instruction is to design environments, experiences and instruction that is realistic, efficient and effective…3D worlds offer some of these advantages.

Over at Money.com, they have a great article called Real $3.1M mansion causes a virtual stir.

To quote the beginning of the article “Flipping through the real estate section is so yesterday – touring an exact replica of a home for sale in Second Life is what's in store tomorrow.”

Is your training so yesterday? While instructor-led training will always have a place in corporate and academic institutions…isn't it time we seriously looked at other alternatives like 3D worlds, including gadgets in the classroom and figuring out how to automate simple process that we train people to do daily? The goal of designers of instruction is to design environments, experiences and instruction that is realistic, efficient and effective…3D worlds offer some of these advantages.

Let's not have the learning and development folks be the last ones to miss out on this new direction in learning. See some examples of how to use Second Life for education in this video created by some of the students in my Learning in 3D Class. I think it tells a compelling story.

Industry News: Get a “Second Life”

Want to visit the future of the web? We already saw the 3B.net example. Now is time to check out Second Life. It is a social networking site that allows you to be an avatar and roam around a virtual world created by its residents.

Here is an article from the www.money.com web site that talks about the future potential of Second Life from a web and market perspective. It is an interesting read.

Also check out Tony Karrer's post on his blog titled Second Life and Learning. He has some good links. Follow these links to get up to speed on the whole “Second Life” concept. You might think you don't need to be up-to-speed on this…but you do.

Here is my Second Life alter ego, Abbott Bundy…(although, he doesn't get out much.)

If you want to try it yourself, go to www.secondlife.com.
