MFA FREE Art Spotlight for April '08: Michael Garfield

Dear MFAer,

It's my pleasure and honor to introduce MFA on Zaadz's featured artist for April: Michael Garfield of Boulder, Colorado.

Michael holds degrees in Evolutionary Biology and Integral Theory and works as a songwriter (on guitar, ukulele, and Chapman Stick), live painter, essayist, sound man, and scientific illustrator–as well as community organizer for Zaadz Visionary Music.

His art and music are both contemplative cartographies–landmarks and legends of mystical experience–and field guides to the strange and beautiful life we encounter along the way. Bringing a biologist's sensibility to art, Michael's work in any medium is grown according to the rules of a unique mental genome–out of the rich ecology of the imagination–as an invitation to explore our infinite depths.
