My favorite thing is tending my plants, flowers and veggies in the garden, to see how the seeds germinate and first young shoots break the dirt. As our only child is going to college this fall I have been spending much time in past few years contemplating capitalism
so none of us have to struggle to make a living. A big dream, yet reachable, if we keep asking as the book says "Ask and it is given".

I am deliberately using chore time to slow down and practice mindfulness, the chore becomes quite enjoyable and relaxing.

peace
mita

      Hi Marianne

Great point regarding doing mundane tasks. They never seem to be mundane if you can spend some introspective time with yourself.

Since that post, I have found scattered work, which is kept us afloat. We feel less scared about the future at the moment, as Marylou's conditions seem to be improving. Monday we have an ultrasound!

I think I'm going to turn this thread into a blog article and call it "Dish Wisdom". I really like what we have here!

Regarding getting myself out there, I do have the feelers out in various places, and in fact picked up some extra work via the internet for US News and World Report (wow!) recently. It was a small project, but I hope and would expect that they would come back to me since everything went smoothly. Cross your fingers for me!

Fred

Fred-
Psychically, when we do a mundane task like driving, or washing dishes, it allow us to 'go within' to our happy place- where vision occurs...and OMG a man that does dishes- you're my hero!!

Native Americans use animals to give us insight to ourselves...

Rabbit- represents fear- that when we are afraid- we tend to jump- react to the fear- usually, putting us in an even stickier mess...by stopping, and really looking at why we are stuck- and allowing for the Universe to show us other ways, we find a more peaceful solution...

You naturally did just that..congrats!!!! You have passed spirituality 101...

And as you see, sometimes the best thing to do is nothing, that if we are scrambling for a solution, we are missing the natural solution that the other side is doing for us.....
We forget that there are friends, ancestors and guides, working for our benefit- and we get in the way when we try to 'manage' things...

Are there any networking events that you can go to in your area? Most are free....Maybe you start one at a local coffee house, and put an ad on the bulitin board?Everyone wants to advertise their business- and they could all be potential clients...
what about having a class or lecture..most people come to learn, but end up hiring the teacher to just do it for them...

I'm gonna go do my dishes now...maybe I'll get some insight myself....lol
Love,
Marianne

      thanks! a very good video,
i've known thats the way it works for sometime, although i never included the debt factor, which makes it work, and you might find it amazing that Everyone that i've given my opinion about this not only doesn't know, but doesn't believe it. And im talking MBA's here.

You might enjoy this pictures from a Mexican artist, Jose Guadalupe Posadas, from the time of the Revolution. They are related to the "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) we celebrate here. (the cartoons from the video reminded me of some engravings by him, but after a search i only found theese, if i find the ones i was looking for ill post them later.)

http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol15/issue3/arts.artview.capital.html

http://www.lambiek.net/artists/p/posada/posada_calaveras.gif

take care

®

      Tonight I made a realization.

I was washing dishes and thinking about how we are going to make it financially. My wife, 2.5 months pregnant, was just recently told she could not continue working due to a muscle injury she received slipping on ice in January.

Marylou is a hard working person. She was working two part time jobs about 25 hours per week as well as finishing her medical transcription course. Once this is completed, she will be able to work from home and be with the children, which we both agree is the best thing we can do for our family. Because of this, we now make $100 less per week than we did.

Faced with this financial challenge, I realized that I have to either a) find freelance work (not easy, mainly right place/right time) as a web developer or b) find another job that pays more (would not happen quickly enough, and our area has a weak tech market)

Either way, this is a big challenge for us. We were trying to catch up on bills that stacked up when Marylou had a miscarriage in November and was out of work for three weeks due to medical complications.

As I was washing dishes, I was going over my options and angles of attack to keep us from a disaster, to keep food on the table, and to get us on track so that we do not end up ruining our chance of getting a home in the next 12 months due to late bills and such. I realized during this time that we have a wonderful power to make choices in life, and no matter what situation life gives us, we always have the power to choose how to handle those situations and influence the outcomes.

The reality is that we are in a very scary place right now, but despite this, I am very thankful that I have the ability to make choices on how to handle this, and I feel confident that it will all work out in the end.

Does anyone need a web developer?

Fred

Great post, Kathy. Education like this is not taught in schools. I haven't watched the movie, but until recently I never had the slightest concept of what the "gold standard" was (I was born in 1979) and how our currency system really worked. It's pretty scary to think that our entire system is built upon basically, nothing but a promise to pay.

Interesting that our curriculum never talks about this in school. It should be taught to everyone.

"We cannot have Fear and Faith at the same time"

This is a very interesting observation. I do thing you have a great point. Faith will overcome fear if you focus attention and give weight to faith, no matter what form it may manifest itself in. Hopefully, we will be able to instill some faith in each other, faith the each experience you have will offer knowledge and fulfillment in some respect. The faith that I hope to impart to myself and to everyone here is that we stand to be successful in every endeavor.

Marianne, here you're mom! You are my hero. Fear is the greatest obstacle to people's success, I can say. I believe you.
We need to be true to ourselves and put fear aside.
We need to avoid: "What will people think about me?", "How will this look to the public?", Will I really succeed? If I fail, won't people look at me as a failure? Won't they start shunning me?" e.t.c.
Such are some of the things we fear as we tend towards achieving our goals, mostly when we predict a slight setback.

One doesn't need to go to school to learn business matters/handling. So those who asked you that question, what were they after? Did they want you to give up? Didn't they want you to try? So if you didn't try, how would you learn?

Teach them more Marianne.

SAIDI

You hear the term "Renaissance man/woman" bandied about every now and then, and lately I've been wondering about it. Sometimes people who get to know me and find out I am both photographer as well as casting & dvd pro, are kind enough to suggest that I am a renaissance person. It's very gratifying thing to hear, but I always feel a little uncomfortable about it, as if the speaker had just compared me favorably with Leonardo Da Vinci or some other indisputably acknowledged super-genius. (After all, I only got a "C" in art, and my handwriting is illegible even when written left handed.)

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that probably more people than one would suspect have earned the title of "Renaissance man" or "Renaissance woman", and that maybe it isn't solely the province of old Italians with long beards and shiny bald heads.

The word "Renaissance" of course comes from the French for "Rebirth", and has come to mean a very high level of artistic creation after a fallow or oppressive period.

To me, the word basically describes a very high-spirited activity of injecting life into the everyday, boring environment, such as through the arts or other channel. This seems to me to be the big secret: that this is what human beings do all the time, especially when they are being themselves.

Anybody working to create a business or any aspect of their job is an artist, to some degree, even if they are just working the late shift at Kinko's. A mother is an artist, bringing life to a family by raising the children and making a safe world for them to live in. You, right now are perhaps hoping that I did my job well and are providing you with a moment's respite from a tedious day, a day in which you are engaged in bringing order to the chaos of your existence. Even if that just means you are filing a mountain of papers from before 2000. You still are creating order, and that is what artists have done since the cave days.

Human beings aren't objects, after all. If we all didn't create space and energy in this world, it would come to a big, grinding halt. We are every one of us Renaissance folks, engaged in the daily activity of "rebirthing", if you will, the stale and stolid world around us, so that we can have some fun.

Maybe you and I and Leonardo do have more in common than one would immediately suppose. I'll tell you one thing, he'd definitely be totally lost in a Kinkos, and you'd have to show him how to do practically everything. Who'd look like the super-genius then?

There is an old saying that says " Ignorance is bliss."
It was that way when I opened my first business.
Many asked me "What do you know about running a business?"
My only reply was, nothing really.
You walk through the fear, because none of it seems like a big deal, compared to bodily injury or death..lol

Our ignorance can sometimes be the fuel for the dream.

But beginning again is like dating after divorce; We know the pitfalls, the things that can go wrong, and that keeps us from beginning...

This journey is but a dream, it is whatever we want it to be.
Our prayer to the universe today;
Give me the insight into the dream, but ignorance to the fear....

Here is the thought for the day

"It's all right to have butterflies in your stomach.
Just get them to fly in formation - Dr. Rob Gilbert
Namaste,
Marianne
