Tonight I made a realization.
I was washing dishes and thinking about how we are going to make it financially. My wife, 2.5 months pregnant, was just recently told she could not continue working due to a muscle injury she received slipping on ice in January.
Marylou is a hard working person. She was working two part time jobs about 25 hours per week as well as finishing her medical transcription course. Once this is completed, she will be able to work from home and be with the children, which we both agree is the best thing we can do for our family. Because of this, we now make $100 less per week than we did.
Faced with this financial challenge, I realized that I have to either a) find freelance work (not easy, mainly right place/right time) as a web developer or b) find another job that pays more (would not happen quickly enough, and our area has a weak tech market)
Either way, this is a big challenge for us. We were trying to catch up on bills that stacked up when Marylou had a miscarriage in November and was out of work for three weeks due to medical complications.
As I was washing dishes, I was going over my options and angles of attack to keep us from a disaster, to keep food on the table, and to get us on track so that we do not end up ruining our chance of getting a home in the next 12 months due to late bills and such. I realized during this time that we have a wonderful power to make choices in life, and no matter what situation life gives us, we always have the power to choose how to handle those situations and influence the outcomes.
The reality is that we are in a very scary place right now, but despite this, I am very thankful that I have the ability to make choices on how to handle this, and I feel confident that it will all work out in the end.
Does anyone need a web developer?
